Although this offer was due to expire almost a full year ago, all links, including the link from the mother company, Paragon, are still good and active. I just got my legal free license key today, so the offer must still be good and valid. Here's the info:

    http://www.computing.co.uk/vnunet/downloads/2166317/paragon-drive-copy-personal

Replacing your tired old hard drive with a speedy, high-capacity model is one of the most effective PC upgrades you can make. Don't go through the tedious process of reinstalling Windows and your applications on the new drive, though: just run Drive Copy instead, and it'll clone your existing drive in the shortest possible time.

Once your new system is up and running, you can also use the program as a simple backup tool. Who wants to go to the trouble of using a file-based backup program, manually specifying files and folders, hoping (but never actually knowing for sure) that you're backing up all the information you need? Image backups are much easier by comparison, can be set up with just a few mouse clicks, and short of hard drive failure you can be sure no vital data will be lost.

There is the issue of backup time, of course. Cloning a complete hard drive will inevitably take longer then just a copying a few files. Drive Copy 8.0 Personal SE keeps this overhead to a minimum, though, by employing a combination of different techniques.

By default the program doesn't copy unused sectors, for instance. And it also skips dynamically updated Windows files that are unlikely to be necessary on the new drive, like the paging file, hibernation file, and so on. You can change both of these settings if it's essential to have an exact drive clone, but otherwise they'll both help boost overall performance.

Alternatively, if you prefer the absolute minimum of hassle, then use the program's built-in scheduler. In a minute or two you'll have it configured to automatically run unattended backups every day, week or month, providing maximum data security for the absolute minimum of effort.

Ignore the 'time limited demo' reference on this page. To obtain your serial code, you'll need to visit http://registration.paragon-software.com/dcse or follow the instructions within the installer.

Note that this full download will be removed on or around 18th of November 2006.

    PROMOTIONAL OFFER

Once you've registered Paragon Drive Copy 8 Personal SE, you'll receive a special promotional offer from Paragon, by email. Hurray, you have 7 days to take advantage of this fantastic offer.

So, check it out, you might just like this freebie offer, another heads-up from yours truly! :-)

Great find! Today this IS my GAOTD, not the label maker offered at the GAOTD page. I got it installed registered and running in less than 10 mins. It has all the features that somebody who want to keep its data safe needs and is very easy to use.

    Thumbs up,

Glad to hear you made use of the offer from Paragon.

However, please don't confuse this offer with the concept of GAOTD, which is in it's self the best concept on the web! Two different concepts, this was a freebie, and GAOTD is an entirely different venue altogether.

Anyways, enjoy the program, because you are correct, ease of installation and ease of use are superb!

Yes, I would say their FTP server is having some issues today. Try it again in a while, I'll bet it works then.

Anyone here know of any site where i can get a free download of acronis drive copy ($50 at retail)?

    Posted 6 months ago #
  9. My answer is "no". You will probably have to settle on an alternate program that performs the same function. Unless Acronis are currently running a promotion - you are probably out of luck.

For free, sometimes you have to accept second choice.

Thanks, I was afraid of that, but it never hurts to ask (so they say).

  11. internetexplor (as previously mentioned in another post) if you have a Seagate or Maxtor drive, download Seagate DiscWizard this includes a very good version of Acronis Drive Copy. This is free but won't work if you don't have a Seagate or Maxtor drive.

  12. Also - it doesn't have to be a seagate or maxtor drive you actually use the product on - you just need one of those connected in some fashion (internal or external) while the software is running. (like a very expensive 'dongle').

Re: Acronis products - In doing research for a good backup program, I ran across discounted pricing for these products at Amazon.

I personally am not going to go the Acronis route. I really don't like proprietary file systems for backups. I can live with the file size limitations of zipped backups by splitting them up.

Here's a link to get Acronis V8 free. It's an older version, but many prefer this lighter, faster, less bloated version. Works fine for me.
After registering, you'll find the V8 download link in your Registered Products folder at the Acronis site.

This offer could possibly be expired? Don't think it supports Vista.

Well I followed the links to Paragon, got their email with registration #, etc., but there is NO place to put the registration key on the d/l link that freewarefan gave earlier. There are 30 day trial versions, but no place to register anything.. any suggestions??

Mr. Fishy, if you read this fairly recent forum discussion, you'll see that others expected immediate gratification after registering. Apparently, though, they discovered that it takes a few days for the registration info to be carried by tiny elves from one room to another. There's truth to the saying, "Good things come to those who wait."

UPDATE: Fred, I received my serial number in a second email within about 15 minutes of replying to the first email they sent that verified my email addie was legit.

UPDATE #2: Didn't take several days after all. Once you register the serial, and go to My Account, you click on Registered Products and it shows Acronis True Image 8.0 Personal (English) ... the 20mb file is downloading now. :-)

Paragon download doesn´t work. FTP login on the download site is not accepted.
Acronis didn´t send me a email yet. Old paragon serial came within a few seconds.

Got the serial number and registration, etc. fairly quickly, but there's no way to d/l the v8.0 .. that brings up an old non-working page. All I can find is v8.5 and all of those are 30 day trials, with no place to even try the regist. info. I did email paragon asking where the link was to d/l v8.0 but haven't heard anything at this point.

  20. To copmom and anyone else trying to find the Paragon Drive Copy 8.0 SE version

    Page I found it on:
    http://www.airjrdn.com/missingbytes/freeware/index.php?dir=UNTESTED/

Scroll down to Paragon Drive Copy 8 Personal.exe and download or use this link (must use save target as or it will not work):

It doesn't say SE on the website but it is!

To get you're serial/registration go here (for those who still want/need it):
