You miss the whole point of the give away code.
It's a taster so that in lets say 6 months a new release comes out you will have used
it fully functional and will be encouraged to buy a new version.
I would if I was you not install vista on your laptop and keep it to xp till the xp software goes out-of-date.
I am waiting for windows 7 myself, not interested in vista, it would be an expensive upgrade for me.
Yes. The games will be lost when you format and install Vista.
why dont they make them such that we can keep them forever and use them whenever we want?
You can keep them forever and use them whenever you want. However this doesn't include formatting your hard disk or uninstalling. The giveaways only permit installing the software on the actual day they are offered. If you need to reinstall the software - you can wait for the software to be offered again, register/purchase a copy with the developer, or find an alternative.
If we insisted that the software had no restrictions at all (like let us install it any time at all, as often as we want) I'm fairly certain many of the games and programs you enjoy as "free giveaways" would never appear on this site at all. It comes down to - "Accept the conditions that the developers are happy with - or no more giveaways".
k thx for the replies. Lee, do you really advise that i continue running my laptop on xp? why?
Bubby, you should at least give away and forever the old versions of the softwares. The user isnt benefiting anyway from updates (he cant update his software). so after some time, an old version should be a give away forever.
my two cents.
Bubby, you should at least give away and forever the old versions of the softwares.
Nancy,
Sadly, it's not my decision to make. That decision can only be made by the programmers of the giveaway software and games (It is their software and their business & livelihood).
The daily giveaways are presented for a different reason and complement the marketing efforts of shareware and commercial developers. The choice of what, when and how to offer versions of their software to users like us through giveaways, demos or shareware trials is a choice that the developers make.
Sure everyone would like everything for free and forever - but realistically that is never going to happen while many programmers rely on selling software to pay their mortgage and put food on the table to feed their families.
I wish electricity, petrol, and food was completely free and forever available - but unfortunately the people who provide these also like to be paid.
From time to time, older versions of some programs are made available. When we find out about them we try to post the details in these forums, so as many users as possible can take advantage of this.
The daily Giveaways featured on this site are usually the very latest version available.
Keep checking these forums and you will discover lots of great programs and games that are completely free forever.
Post your system specs nancy and I, or maybe we can advise you why.
k bubby. fair enough. thx.
Lee
1.73 Ghz centrino sonoma
80 GB Hard Drive
Windows Xp service Pac11 Prof.
512 RAMS
is that enough ?
actually going vista at the mom is not on my priority list. i just want to know how to increase my C drive partition from 15 to 40 and decrease my D drive from 65 to 40 GB. without the need to format or lose data.
thx.
512 RAMS <-- that is way to small.
If you wish to change the partition size then use Partition Magic or a similar app that will resize partitions.
Freeware Partition Resizer v1.3.4
A freeware partitioning app that also supports "resize NTFS"
thx guys.
Bubby, i downloaded the partition logic and tried to reboot my laptop from a usb and it just rebooted from the hard drive.
i downloaded the cd rom version. i burned the file on a cd and tried to reboot from my optical drive and still all it did was reboot from the hard disk. i ve already set my bios settings such that my laptop reboots first from my optical drive.
am i missing something here?
Did you follow the instructions on burning an ISO image etc. from
http://partitionlogic.org.uk/manual/install/index.html
no i didnt. thx. will try it and hopefully it should work.
just completed partitioning my hard drive !!!!!! Phhew!
thx for the little tip about iso image burning; however, i recommend that anyone who's going to partition his hard drive uses "gnome partition"
link: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
simply because i am a n00b and i found it an easy trip from the beg to the end. good user interface....etc. nice direction on the site.
at least its 50 MB + unlike the ones listed up which may be for pros.
one question: when i partition my hard drive, am i actually losing some space from the original space? can i partition my hard drive as many number of times as i want? does it have negative effects? (one question l0l)
You can partion a hd backwards and forwards as many times as you wish.
I have a 111gb hd and I have 5 partions, c(windows) d(downloads) e(media) f(swap/page file) g(vault) I also have a 160gb L drive for my image backups and increments.
If my download drive becomes full I then gain space from e to d.
When I need more on my windows drive I may take space from g and all that happens whilst one gets bigger the other gets smaller and vice-versa.
thx lee. already replied to this post in the other thread.
many times the computer catches a rojan through an infected USB. This trojan will also infect your files. Can we run like a usb antivirus on the usb or hard drive that will protect it from getting infected?.
Yes.
Search google for Portable antivirus and portable spyware removal.
Norman also do a file that does not need to be installed and can run from a zip, sd, flash, usb, thumb drive etc.
Just drag and drip the file to the usb key you have and then open the usb key and double click the portable and follow the prompts.
To get you into the groove visit this site: http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/clamwin_portable
thx alot. but it reads that it's manually activated which means that i have to plug my USB and enter and double click the .exe application then scan the files to be imported on my portable usb drive.
but if the computer is infected with a virus in the memory, then it will send it without any warning to my potable drive and since the anti-virus is manually triggered, it will not detect the virus!!!
did i miss something? will the clam detect any viral activities when i plug it to an infected computer ?
thx.
my laptop screen and keyboard (all my laptop) needs cleaning. could someone advise what is the best way to clean computers (laptops & desktops) and how (using what)?
also my DVD CD Rom is malfunctioning. Can i do something about it? i tried cleaning it with a CD cleaner. but it just read like one DVD one time and it stopped reading them. Also i noticed that in case the DVD is burned / prepared by someone my drive wont read it. but it will read the original (not always but most of the time)
is it time for me to buy a new DVD drive? or can i do something to fix it(increase its life duration). Optical drives are the only fault in the Sony Vaio VGN-FS18GP series. also the battery life is short.
thanks
