A couple of weeks ago the comments page was no longer able to be saved. Attempting to save it resulted in a pop up saying "this webpage could not be saved", or words to that effect. The problem was discussed on a comment page and the problem went away, I assume due to action by GOTD.

It has returned, in spades. Now I cannot save the page and also cannot print it. If I try to print it, my browser hangs.

Please undo what appear to be security measures on the comments page. It contains useful information that I save into the directories where I download those programs that are of interest to me.
    Thanks.

  2. Probably as it's copyrighted that it's not working.

Use print screen if you want it that bad or copy and paste.

It has worked before. It is working today. I can hardly credit that this is a copyright issue. I strongly suspect that it is a coding issue on the webpage and one whose purpose I disagree with.

  4. JKEngineer, if you have any issues with "the coding issues" of the webpage - you should take them up with the site owners via the contact form on the main page. This is something that we have no control nor say over.

  5. Like Lee said, just a couple of mouse clicks and you'll still have the info. (Actually 3 clicks)

    Right Click then

    Select All
    Copy

    Create your folder
    Paste

JKEngineer, is this a temporary problem? Have you checked to see if any of the previous pages you had trouble with are copiable now in the archives? It seems unlikely that GAOTD is doing this intentionally to prevent us from saving the pages. Maybe they were working on the page at that particular moment, or something.

Can you use the "View/Source" menu? Saving the source will give the same results as saving the page.

  7. Hello guys,
try to save the page using different file name (instead of default), this might help. I guess the problem is caused by multiple dots in end of file name.

Anyone who wants to save MY comments in any form whatever has first to obtain permissions from my solicitors: Plankt, Pursegurdle & Lumpe of Gray's Inn, London. Any copyright infringement will be vigorously pursued through all the courts of the United Kingdom and other available authorities, including, but not restricted to, detailed appeals to the House of Lords and the European Court of Human Rights.

  9. I hope you have a spare £500,000 k floating around.

Thats what you will be shelling out to get the case to a court.

I have sent the same message thru the contact form.

Maz - Please contact my law firm, Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe, to set up an appointment to discuss terms and choice of seconds.

The inability to save is not driven by the filename. Using the menu to select file>save as, causes (when the problem occurs)an immediate popup box saying the webpage cannot be saved. This was discussed on the comments page a week or two ago, by me and others. The problem then went away. It has come back. And as of today, gone away again.

  13. is the browser 100% finished loading the page before you try to save it?

Do the advertisements on the page affect whether you can save it or not?

    etc.

  14. JKEngineer, when you find one of these pages - it would be helpful if you can post the details (which giveaway / date etc) and the exact error messages you are seeing.

I've just gone back several days and managed to save the comments pages for all of these days without issue. I'd like to be able to help but without being able to reproduce or see the problem myself - I can't really determine what is causing it.

Also, which browser are you using and if you have any plugins/extensions loaded - do you get the same results by disabling these? Also is there a complete copy of the webpage in your browsers cache?

    BuBBy -
The first instance of the problems occurred on FlashSpring Pro 2.2 (Sept 7). You will see 2 comments from me (and comments from others on the same page) about saving the page. Comment 42 reports I cannot save the page. #82 reports restored ability to save it.

I found the problem using both the AOL browser and IE 7. The more recent problem, which instigated this thread was worse, in that trying to print resulted in a browser hang. I am pretty sure it is not my machine or set-up. After all it goes away without my changing things, which I infer results from changes by GOTD. It is also reported by others.

Problems saving or printing the comments page have recurred today, 1/21/08 for Direct Access.
A "save as" command immediately gives a pop-up alert that "the webpage could not be saved". Using Adobe Acrobat to print the page seems to work, until the output file is examined. It has the first part of the page - up to the comments header, and then 6 blank pages with only the page headers, but no comments.

This happens in both IE7 and inside AOL 9. (Previous events were in AOL7.)
I tried it in Firefox, which I only recently downloaded. Interestingly, after informing me that the file name was invalid, it downloaded the page successfully with a different file name (that I specified).

personally I select the text from "giveaway of the day -" down and use filenote to paste it into a text file- no images, etc. if the oem link is abbreviated I 'copy link location' and paste it in as a second step, but that's the limit.

    never a problem.
