Time is running out for this game. I sure would like to be able to have it. Can someone point me to where I can find the answer to the above problem with the game???

I've tried 4 different install/uninstalls and still I get the error message. I've used GOTD for months and downloaded many things without a problem. Why now?? Why on the one game I really wanted??? LOL

Thanks Keilaron. I'm not savy enough to understand whether or not I have mciqtz32.dll, let alone know if it's faulty or needs replacing or whatever. I started messing around with some of the advice and tried PC doctor and ran regscrubXP and got myself into a mess. Had to do a restore point just to get my computer back to what it was yesterday. LOL I guess I just wasn't meant to have this game. ;(

  9. daw, you said you had exactly the same problem; alyoob's error message specifically mentioned mciqtz32.dll, which is why I pasted that link. If yours didn't, perhaps your problem wasn't the same.

    Keilaron,
Yes, my error message was about mciqtz32.dll but when I followed your link the problem discussed was with Power Point presentations. Like I said.....I'm not savy enough to make the connection I guess. I do appreciate your trying to help and I'm sure you're frustrated that I'm so dense. LOL

  12. BettyBoop3850, I'm not sure about correcting those two problems, but you know the game is over when the board is full (the game does not end before that). If you're playing the tutorial, perhaps you aren't looking at the next page?

daw, the relation isn't really to PowerPoint. If you read part of the article, it says that the problem occurs when a video plays (in PowerPoint, but that's a moot point - the problem is the video); I figured that since various intro videos play when the game is run, that maybe one of those was causing a problem.

  13. I read about this some time ago - this is probably the same problem with codecs.

The easiest way to replace the MPEG codec - according to Microsoft is to reinstall the latest version of Media Player.

If you have never had the Latest version of media player (v11 I think) perhaps installed some other software or codec pack which has broken the mpeg codec.

(It's a little difficult to test and verify this - as mine works just fine).

  14. Mine works as well. For codecs, I'd suggest the CCCP... but search this forum, I think there's already been a discussion on codecs. :>

Keilaron and Bubby, I did download WMP version 11 like suggested, and still get the same error code. As for going to some site and picking out codecs.....I'd be lost. I did contact Merscom support about this yesterday. They have been kind enough to offer their help. They also first suggested the WMP thing and since that didn't work, they had me send two files from my computer to evaluate what the conflict might be. I've had no problem with any of the other games I dl'd from Merscom.

  17. If Merscom have offered their help - I would graciously accept it. They would have a better understanding of the internal workings of the program that I would ever claim to have.

I went to http://process-dll.com/pd/dll.php?id=mciqtz32.dll_6.05.2600.2180 to find out about mciqtz32.dll and how to download the correct one. Then I went to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=2 and hit Download the Latest DirectX End-User Runtime: March 2008 Update.

Unfortunately there is only 12 minutes left in the giveaway so I haven't had time to test it yet but thought this might help someone else.

mci = media control interface and mciqtz32 refers to the direct show mci driver as far as I can tell

    Hope this helps.

Nope, none of that fixed the problem for me. It sound like there are a lot of other disappointed puzzlers out there so will be content with 'misery loves company'. Thank you GGAOTD as this was one that I requested in the forums. Oh well, maybe I will be able to use # 85's suggestion and play it at the site mentioned there 'brettspielwelt.de'.

Thank also to everyone else who tried to give 'fixes' to the problem.

I've got two versions of Ingenious now. The one given away and the one I got from Reflexive Arcade. Maybe if you can get my Email from the Administrators I could give you my bought copy as it seems silly having two versions of the same game. Just comntact them, theres a contact address somewnere in these forums I think. I do beleive the version I bought a couple of years ago is an earlier version though. You're quite welcome to my copy turkishvan.
