I was just wondering, does anyone knows here, what the difference between swf and flv files are??
I just dl the goatd from yesterday , and it works perfectly for me, but i have always wondering, why those million of sites, that allow us to download and convert flv files for free from youtube & co (like www.media-convert.com, www.zamzar.com, www.vixy.net and two dozen others) but none of them worked with swf files.

  2. use Super converter(www.erightsoft.com), but if your swf has mouse click events, sounds on-off button, play/pause buttons etc the converters won't work. :)

  3. SWF is a native file; that means, it's a Flash object (video/game/application) written natively in Flash and meant to be viewed/interacted with a Flash player.

FLV is a flash video player. The buttons, progress bar, volume control, etc are all natively built in flash, but the video itself may have originated from any number of formats. I don't know all the specifics, but I think everything from .mov to .avi and others are supported in FLV conversion.

    I hope that helps.

(if you want to download a .swf file, typically you should be able to find its actual location on the server you're visiting by checking the html source)

  4. SWF is typically vector-based, i.e., rather than keeping information on what color goes where (for example), it will instead remember mathematical information such as "Draw a circle, this size, this color, with this deformation".

FLVs are movies, on the other hand, and are just encapsulated inside SWF (I think); They contain an actual movie in another format, though I'm not certain what format that is (Maybe it's own, maybe just MP4, ... dunno).

Actually, have a look at Wikipedia's page on the subject:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Video
That should tell you all you want to know :> If not, ask more questions :D

Thank you all you three, alexiussg, Keilaron, Jucati

I think, after reading the wiki article i understand a bit better.

and i think, i have expressed myself not very clearly in my original post, I was just curious about the differences of those two file extensions.

I have downloaded the swf-file already weeks ago successfully with orbitdownlaoder ( http://www.orbitdownloader.com/ )
but up until the GOTD of two days ago ( Moyea SWF to Video Converter Pro ) I was not successful in converting it to .avi,
I tried SUPER and MEDIACODER already, but i am not software savyy enough to made them work.

my curiosity was, like i said, flv seemed to be so easy to convert with so many online-sites, thus SWF seemed not.

but i am all good now, my newly converted swf file is working as avi perfectly.
