Yesterday my middle name [snipped] was revealed at the end of my post. This is NOT supposed to happen! What happened to protecting your members private information GotD?

It happened once before here and I bit the bullet and didn't say anything. If this is going to happen I want nothing to do with this website again.
I'd like an explanation please, so that I can explain to my superiors.

The only thing to worry about Swan is that now you have exposed what you are involved in. I hope that you don't think you are the only one that does such things.
I just retired from a police dept. I did it 27 years. I've never seen or even heard of a case where perps went after an (arm of the police)in my whole career. How could you even be identified on the other end (the IRC)?
I would have said nothing about the above. I don't think that many child pred's surf much on sites like this. Most of there time is searching for there next victim.
Oh BTW, I didn't see your name in the posting. I see it here where you posted it. Bad, bad, bad. I'm not on you and love and admire what you are doing, just trying to post so others that may be doing the same thing will think before posting.

Well, if we didn't know your name yesterday, we sure as hell know it today, [snipped]. Not that anyone was particularly interested.
If this or any other site is displaying personal information about you, then you must have given them that personal information at some point. Sure, it shouldn't happen, but we all know that software goes wrong now and then - you yourself have demonstrated that on this site time and time again when reviewing downloads.
What really gets me is when you say you're involved in online security for children - surely someone in your position, above all others, should be knowledgeable enough NOT to give personal information when it is not necessary or required. How can you honestly advise children about how to behave in the online world when you appear so clueless yourself?
I'm not taking the piss here, that is a serious question, and one you should ask yourself. An answer along the lines of "well, it shouldn't happen" is just plain crazy, and the kind of thing you might expect to hear from a technically illiterate parent worried over their kids safety.
EDIT*** And one more thing - cut out the continuous and over use of bold and italic text in your posts please. It's annoying and starting to make my eyes go funny.

Your middle name was revealed yesterday, so, to complain, you provide details of your position on a public message-board. Does it not occur to you that all this does is to focus attention on you?
Surely you should address any complaint b/c PRIVATELY to the administrators (or did you not notice you can PM any of the moderators?)
I must agree that you don't seem very savvy about Internet security, particularly if you are advising children about it. Don't give out any personal info gratuitously should surely be one of the first priorities.
I wasn't going to post the name so she could edit it out when she read the post. Both of you make very good points and suggestions which I hope are taken as being constructive by swan.
I'm still not certian on what she actually does though. If because of what swan does makes the info highly sensitive, it leads me to believe that it would be more than just a type of consultant or adviser. But like you stated, it should never have been given to begin with. All that is required here is a valid email address.
Another thing I don't understand is why anything has to be explained to the top brass. ????? Sounds really strange and confusing. Let me go one farther. I retired as the Chief. The only thing I can see that you would have to answer for is telling who and what you are in this public forum. Nothing that GOTD did. National Security? Don't think so either.
Edit your name out when you read this and let everything else go.
well, you could ask the admin/Lee/BuBBy of this forum to removed that post and this thread(or hide it) which has your name in it. i know that anyone working in any country's defence areas shouldn't give out their particulars over the internet... and i havn't across a forum that display's your REAL name.
Swan, I would think your superiors would be much more interested in hearing you explain this thread.

Swan, you say ALL your details are highly sensitive and shouldn't be revealed. Would those details include a husband who is a software developer and two grown sons living in Australia? The computers you use and what you have running on them? Because this is some of the information you have volunteered time and time again in your daily posts. Granted, this is your choice to do so, but don't go "007" on GOTD if your business sudddenly becomes public. As Archangel stated, a valid e-mail adress gets you in the door. And I've never heard any complaints that GOTD hasn't kept them completely private.
Respectfully, I doubt that GAOTD has psychic powers and was only able to insert your name because you gave it to them somewhere. I'm not sure if that's even possible, as a cursory clickaround didn't reveal to me any place to change or input my own name.
but... the underlying point is that the Internet only knows what you tell it.
I am actually a crack operative of SNITZ (Special Nosey Intelligence, Team Zebra)--but you wouldn't catch me mentioning that online, because of international security.. lol.
Jucati, you and maz have got me laughing so hard again I can hardly type. Good point though again Jucati. I've learned all kinds of things tonight on GOTD's forum. I know why you missed it Jucati. You didn't get with maz and be apart of the SNITZ team. I need to be a charter member.
Anyway, I guess Swan has got some really good info that she can pass around to all the kiddies online using IRC. Probably the main thing is, don't make a mistake and post your complaint when actually it was you that messed up.
I just hope I haven't blown my cover and everyone still thinks that Archangel is a woman with 25 kids that she watches over.
