This week i'v loaded any games and software (today booth finely); if i try to install them i received a message:

Giveaway period for this software is over, pleas check our web-site for a nwe giveaway

Every download software is marked as 21 hours to load and install. Whats wrong here?

  2. One thing I have had happen to myself is where I have downloaded a giveaway - and left it for several hours to activate (sometimes I have downloaded in the first 60 minutes of the giveaway and don't get around to activating until the final 60 minutes).

Sometimes during the course of a giveaway the GOTD team update the download with a new version/build. The side effect of trying to activate a "previous" release of the giveaway is the mysterious "giveaway is over" error message - when you know there is plenty of time left (even the website says so).

The "real problem" here is an inaccurate and misleading error message.

If this happens - the first thing I would suggest is to redownload and activate immediately.

It is entirely possible there are other causes - but this one I have found to happen to me - and it is repeatable. It is obvious to see the downloaded files have changed are different - if only from the file sizes.

(BTW - The GOTD Team are aware of this issue now, and have told me they plan to address it).

I had this happen to me a cpl hrs ago when installing Lunch Puzzle Deluxe. It told me activation successful then when it took me to the site it said:
    This giveaway is not available

Lunch Puzzle Deluxe was available as a giveaway on June 9, 2007, this giveaway is not available any more. You can download the trial version of this software at http://www.realapex.com/game/l....

I had over an hr left....guess we missed this one too...not the first time this has happened! Frustrating!!!

  4. All I can say is take out 5 minutes, to download app/game or both and activate straight away, then install after and check to make sure everything is working fine.

  5. Yes, I find it is much easier to solve a problem when I have 6 or 12 hours to do so.

Leaving the download and install until the final minutes and frantically trying to get something working with 15 minutes to go - is not always a lot of fun. (And just as a note, I'm often not able to answer questions or nowhere near these forums in the last 1-2 hours of a giveaway).

The "GOTD Procrastinators Club" is actually a self-help group. :)

Thanks for the replies...usually I DL them shortly after posting but not always the case. You would THINK..I know it's a reach. but if they are giving the games away you would think they should work until the next games are posted. plus have it posted on the main DL page the links are only good for 24hrs.or have I missed that info.

  7. The download links for the giveaways should always work - however for the first 24 hours they link to a version that can be activated/registered/unlocked for free for that 24 giveaway period.

After the first 24 hours - the links revert to the developers site and will download the standard demo/trial/shareware version. There will also be a message on this site at the download link explaining that the software was a giveaway for DD/MMM/YY or something to that effect.

  8. This isn't the first time this has happened. I just downloaded and installed Backup4all lite. I didn't wait to activate it, I did everything when I downloaded and it asked for a registration number, which of course I don't have. When I clicked close it said my time was up.
I've lost several programs I would have liked to have. Why doesn't GAOTD just give a registration #? I guess I don't get the backup program either :o(

  9. Run the activate executable file after closing the app.

I always install first (app) anyway, always have done then activate after trying the app and see if it will fit my needs.

If they gave you the registration key, then who says we or you or everyone won't go warezing it up or formatting and installing on another day, or passing it on at a later date to friends and relatives?

Most of us don't format, some I know format monthly or even yearly.

When sp3 comes out for xp I will do an integrated install and probably format and my apps will be doomed (the ones I got from here).

  10. In theory the activate is easier than dealing with all the different ways to register a program (every program has their own method of registration keys and codes).

This way you just run activate.exe and you are done. (Except for some users who have unusual or broken configs).

If not for activate.exe, every day we would have lots of users asking how and where to register. The days when there have been the most problems are the days when users have to put their details into a web form to get emailed a code.

  11. On Backup4all, this happened TODAY! Activate.exe went fine, but then when installed, it said the trial period had expired and I need to buy or give a registration number. I went through the whole process several times. What's up here?
