There are a number of versions available but my mother's favourite is called 1995card. We had no trouble playing it on Win95 but we can't get it to run on her Windows Vista. I think the basic shareware version worked on my WindowsXP at one time but it doesn't seem to now. The first problem was that it's a full screen game. I found from this site that that could be fixed with DOSbox. I've tried DOSbox with other games and it seems to work fine. However, this particular game says it needs to be installed from a floppy. I've tried to do that with DOSbox by mounting as an A drive but I can't seem to get it to work. I'd really appreciate if someone could download it and work out how to install it. And who knows? Maybe you'll like the game! I am attempting to get the extra star in the 3rd treasury by getting a score of 800k and something. I have already gone back to previous treasuries and collected all the extra stars. For the life of me I cannot get to 800k. I have tried trading the stars for different bonuses but nothing seems to work. This game can be really strange. Sometimes I think I am really racking up the points but my score won't even be up to 50k. Other times it seems nothing is happening and I will end up with 300 to 400k. Any ideas? If so, are you having problems with it, like hanging unexpectedly (often, meaning a reboot) or refusing to change to the Inbox when you want it to? Also, very update removes the tabbed items which I keep until I have dealt with them and they were a reminder to me as soon as I looked at my emails, hence I dealt with them quicker. Thunderbird just updates automatically (nearly as often as Firefox) and I have had lots of little problems that so far I have been able to sort out, but are very annoying as they happen nearly daily. I have stopped the automatic updating now in the hopes of getting a stable copy and keeping it which so far hasn't happened. I even wish could go back to a stable Thunderbird, but I don't even know how far back that would be now, I suspect quite a few updates have been made since then, as I often lose my tabs now. (Well, I did until I stopped the automatic updates, but sadly I still don't have a reliable Thunderbird.) For the refusal to change to my Inbox I hunted through Thunderbird and found a repair prog which sorted that problem out, but till I found that, I was ready to throw my laptop out the window. It is amazing what you learn or find when you can't get to your Inbox no matter how many times you reboot. I'm curious to know if others are having problems like this or if it is just my ageing laptop, purchased in 2005/6 and running XP Pro with 1.5gb ram. I am probably taxing it severely as I have 3 external hard drives (all powered), a powered 10 port hub, and a strong cooling pad running off it as well as all the detritus that I deem necessary to my life nearly filling it. The internal dvd writer has also given up the ghost and reverted to a DVD-RAM or CD drive only so when I need to I have to remove one of the external drves to use an external dvd burner. My first one is called Digital Blasphemy. You have to pay for most of the images from this site, but there is a free section that has some excellent fantasy imagery based on real life settings (well almost). I do have links to several other sites, but not on this computer, so when I get the opportunity I will be posting them here. If you go to Google Earth you’ll find loads of links to individuals own libraries of images; for example, I found a site while looking at images people had posted of the Grand Canyon region. (I love geology, so the Grand Canyon is on my list of places to visit before I die) If you don’t have MacAfee’s site advisor installed do be careful though as I clicked on one site called Desktopia which kept redirecting me to other sites, and others to risqué sites. Another way to find good images is to use the image search engines. You can specify a particular size so that it filters out the smaller images. Definitely go the website given at the end of the article for pictures and charts and the map and video. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an epic role playing game, but you probably knew that already. We’ve already harped on about why it’s not to be missed, how to improve your dragon slaying using an iPhone and kept a close eye on technical issues. Now it’s time to dig deep and see what the web has to offer the Dragonborn. The following resources will aid you in clearing dungeons, navigating the province, mastering alchemy and a whole lot more. I was going to put a joke here, but then I took an arrow to the knee. Reference & Walkthrough You can’t beat a well-maintained wiki when it comes to crowdsourcing information about video games, and Skyrim isn’t short on wikis. The two I would recommend are the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP, established in 1995) and the Elder Scrolls at Wikia. Both of these sites feature a healthy, constantly growing database of pretty much everything the game throws at you. Mission walkthroughs, character biographies, item locations – pretty much everything you need to know. Be warned though, it’s easy to spoil quests and developing storylines by spending too much time reading articles. Skyrim’s entry on GameFAQs also has a number of extremely detailed walkthroughs. If it’s a giant annotated map you’re after then check out GameBanshee’s 9.34MB high-resolution .PNG which also comes in 9-page PDF form for easy printing as a 3×3 poster for your wall (you geek). Alchemy & Ingredients The simplest way of discovering an ingredient’s effect is by eating it and seeing what happens to you. If you’re not keen on poisoning yourself or would rather not waste your precious ingredients then one of the many alchemy guides is bound to suit. There are two rather awesome tools for budding alchemists, the first being the Skyrim Alchemy Recipes Finder. Simply add a few ingredients (or all of them for the full list) and all possible potions will be revealed to you. This utility is useful for finding out what certain ingredients do without wasting anything. You can also use Josh Blevins’ Alchemy Effects & Ingredients to reverse look-up an effect for a list of ingredients. Traditional types who like long plain text lists should take a look at Ahlyis’ Alchemy Guide on GameFAQs which has full potions, ingredients and effects lists. Character Building Building a character can present you with some of the toughest decisions in the game, so planning your perks is the best way to ensure your character blossoms into the dragon slaying hero you desire. Thankfully it’s easy to do just that with the Skyrim Perk Calculator. Use it to go hog wild and build the character of your dreams then plan your path to power, save and start exploring the world. iOS and Android users can look forward to mobile apps soon. There is also a fairly lengthy character development guide on GameFAQs as well as this more condensed version from SegmentNext. PC Gamers & Modding Those of you enjoying the PC version of the game are lucky enough to be able to modify it but also have the added obstacle of performance issues. If you are suffering from poor framerates or just think your game could run smoother then have a look at nVidia’s Skyrim tweak guide, it even comes with Bethesda’s approval. As for mods then look no further than Skyrim Nexus. There really are quite a lot of mods on this site with new ones being released regularly. If you fancy modding your game but don’t know where to start then you could always take some inspiration from PC Gamer’s Top 25 Skyrim mods. Conclusion If you’ve not yet played Skyrim then you have a fantastic experience in store if beautiful open-world RPGs are your thing. Even if you’re a well-seasoned adventurer, hopefully some of these resources will help you out next time you decide to start a new character. Step-by-step installation instructions would go a long way towards considering future buying of the full program. If programmers only aim their products at competent users they'll lose business if their instructions are not clear for the rest of us. Less knowledgeable users aren't stupid people, they just need better guidance. I know I'm not alone thinking this; just read the comments left by other GOTD subscribers who also have installation difficulties.
