Thanks Chazzo.

Maybe we should post a thread specifically for converters? (Could work together on this one as it's got quite a lot of mileage) I've still to come to terms with a lot of it, but once done it'll open up a whole new area of gaming. :)

Sorry on this one, you can play this in Vista or Win 7 using a Game Converter found at Yo-Yo games HERE. I've only just found this converter myself, though WR did have this posted for another game a long time previously!

Download, extract and run the converter, then drag and drop the game exe file onto the converter window, click on the filename then click open and a converted version is placed in the game folder, allowing it to be played offline in Vista and Win 7. :)

Pro Killer Man (2.7Mb)

Every so often a game comes out that - though an established genre (in this case a 2D top-down shooter) - is refreshingly different. The plot is straightforward enough, kill the bad guy while avoiding shooting the civilians, then avoid the cops as you make a run for the exit. The cops get called when you are successful in your assassination attempt, but sooner and in greater numbers if you shoot any civilians. In trying to gun you down, the cops are rather less fussy about shooting any civilians inadvertently in the way! Oh - And everyone moves around real fast!

The difficulty level increases as you progress through the ten levels, with bodyguards appearing and the rooms getting more complex. To hinder your planning, movement and going after the bad guy, and shooting them down, the AI has random movement patterns both for your target and civilians. This makes it much more an action game rather than a puzzler. You have to shoot bodyguards before your target or they’ll get you straightaway. Cops will ignore you until you shoot anyone, but from then on they’re out to put a bullet of the 'sweetest' justice in your head as soon as they can!

You are dressed in black, and your target in white, but getting that clean shot in and escaping the cops is going to take some doing! The cops move very fast and with very accurate targeting of you so it's quite likely they’ll get you within half a second or so of you killing your target! Or an innocent bystander! That being so, try to kill your target when a cop or the cops are on the other side of the room; but . . . you have to run past them on the way back! You’re best off shooting the target close-to and somewhere nearest to the exit! You might need to use crowd cover though the cops will try to fire right through them causing more and more innocent victims (and more blood!). Fortunately later levels introduce some hiding places where you can temporarily avoid the cops! Kill one cop and another will take his place! It’s no handcuffs, arrest and trial, just a Bonny and Clyde show-down once the cops are after you. Make it to the exit in one piece and you’re through to the next level!

Can you survive ten levels and make a clean get-away?

The game has a semi-3D effect with layered sprites for the game characters.

The graphics are very retro in style and victims, intended or otherwise are daubed in pools of blood! If senseless violence (well almost, as the bad guy invariably 'deserves' shooting down - doesn't he? . . !) isn’t to your taste then this might not be for you, but if you enjoy shooting mayhem games you’ll surely enjoy this one!

The music fits the secret agent professional hitman theme admirably, with just gunshots for sound effects. I would have liked maybe a siren or two as the cops get on the chase, but the game and gameplay is really excellent as is!

ps Press 'Enter' on your keyboard when it says "I need you to kill people" after clicking on 'NEW' to start the game!

Chasing, then being chased, together with innocent caught-in-the-way victims, with a lovable assassination game plot all makes for a great and very enjoyable experience. Stunning!

All in all it’s a brilliant concept, excellently implemented and really great, serious fun to play!

As it's a Game Maker 6 game it may not play downloaded in Vista or Win 7 - but you can play online using the second download link at Yo-Yo Games. Allow Yo-Yo Games add-in to install and restart your browser. (Or use Virtual XP mode, or Win 7 Ultimate's hardware supported XP mode if your CPU supports this.)
