Bobby, my understanding is that if your brother gets this device, he can still call you using it (but you can't call him using that device) since he'd be calling from a US number.
Amusingly enough, the reason I was looking for the overseas information was that I myself wish to call someone in Australia. :>

My thanks to each of you for some valuable input. I knew I came to the right place for advice!

Alex, Mahalo! (Hawaiian thanks) for the terrific link!

Keilaron .. good point about the overseas calls. I did not know Skype had that feature! My brother lives in Australia; being able to call him more often would be terrific.

AprilWatson, I will keep a lookout for the technology you require ... I browse many, many 'new technology' sites. My all-time favorite has to be the young man that posted instructions for making a wireless antenna from an old satellite dish. If the temperature ever drops below 100° (I am SO ready for winter), I plan to head out to the garage and work on that project.

Bobby - No overseas? Meh. It's far from being a Skype killer.

aprilwatson, depends on your phone! Some phones support being used as modems, some don't. So, what phone do you have?

Is there any new technology out there that will let you cable in your cell phone to your computer to fax a document and or receive one?

I can receive and send a fax from my cell phone but It is a pain to have to download and upload documents . . . .

Looks intresting Bobby. Besides Skype, I use http://www.voipcheap.com, which allows free phone calls to land lines and cell phones. They do require a deposit of $ 10 which is good for 3 months. Quality of phone calls is usually pretty good.
Pura Vida

http://www.noheat.com/2007/03/09/skype-and-cable-phone-services-look-out-for-magicjack/

http://www.magicjack.com/site/index.html

Ran across this article on Magic Jack at NoHeat.com and thought there might be someone out there that disliked phone bills as much as I, cell phone bills included. After moving to the midwest and signing up with CenturyTel (the only service available), our first month's bill was $4,000 (I was AOL Host then..that includes computer time). Promptly switched to AT&T's unlimited long distance for $40/month. NOW I learn about Magic Jack, which is a usb|analog phone line device that allows you to make VOIP calls free.

Has anyone tried this device? It is being touted as Skype-killer, but Skype is still free .. no investment required. I'd like to get a comparison, if anyone uses these services.
