As I said in the comments - it's basically the example application from Chapter 2 of a "Learning to program" text book - I suspected as much as soon as I saw it - only lacked the proof to show where it was "lifted from". I don't have VB6 installed on my laptop - so if anyone wants to quickly compile it and take a bunch of screenshots - might be interesting. Personally I think Doylesoft is really taking advantage of people who don't know any better, anyone who was tricked into paying $79 for this deserves a full refund and an apology.

When put alongside Remlapsoftware KnowledgeBase http://www.remlapsoftware.com/ (which is completely free) it demonstrates only too well how far Doylesofts' attempt as a software Knowledgebase has to improve before it can seriously claim to be a competitor. Currently it is The world's ONLY "almost functioning" overpriced Knowledge Base.

The programmer really has an inflated view of "his" company and software.

DoyleSoft built the first knowledge management system designed exclusively for ease of use and open database design. This deep, rich experience with the Windows operating system has helped us in our efforts to make sure our software is the most compatible in the industry.

The company has made substantial investments in establishing the finest technical services in the industry, which enables DoyleSoft to develop the highest quality products possible.

Total and absolute garbage.

Hey Bubby,

Like the guy who eluded to my "find" before me, I just happened to recall the sample VB code and tracked it down in about 5 minutes. Not a bad Demo, but needs most/all the modifications as commentors have mentioned in the Comments. Then again, this is a Demo Application -- for other VB programmers to learn from. Too limited in scope to be packaged as-is (contrary to Doylesoft's opinion of "their" fine product).

Doylesoft gets an A++ for their Marketing Plan, but a F-- on originality/ethics.

Cheers.

Nice find. It's interesting to see that both applications use the same error handling... none.

They should both crash with the same errors by performing the same actions.

The toolbar button layout - printed output location (hardcoded and stupidly in the root of the c: drive) - even the html layout in the printed report is identical except for Doylesoft adding his own copyright.

So this is some n00b developer who lifted some free code, made a couple of buggy changes (about 60 minutes work) then put up a website - call it a commercial product and marks it "Copyright Doylesoft" - and demands $79 for it.

What a joke. Gives me a great idea for a scam... I'm off to find me some free code to call my own.
