I suspect your video card isn't capable of running the game. You need a 3D capable video card.

I suggest reading This and post (in this topic) the sections marked in yellow in the screenshots - to confirm my suspicions or otherwise.

I keep getting an error message when i try to play. (ERROR_NOD3DDEVICE) Please help, i really like this game.
