Rabbit, I was amazed to see that it is just options limited too.
But it is such a beautifully designed game that I am certain I will want the extras before long!
I gather that the various computer opponents have different levels of expertise, which is fun; plus they all have little sound bytes when they win or lose etc..

Yes, I bet a lot of folks here would enjoy it!

OMG Dungeons and Dragons, I haven't heard about that for years! I knew people who were right into it too..
Yes this is a rare find; thanks again!
:)

Hi Suki,
I didn't buy my version from the link I posted, I forgot exactly who I bought it off, but I do remeber the site being dedicated to the game. It is a full screen game with the option to play in a window.

Wow I didn't realize it was one of those time unlimited, but options limited games. I may just add it on to one of the free games for the weekdays postings, but only as an extra.

Merri, I used to play Mahjong with friends when I was a teenager. That was before the age of computer games so we used to play Dungeons & Dragons (and later the simplified Tunnels and Trolls) and for rest periods in between playing we'd play a few rounds of Mahjong. (We took the RPG game really seriously, often spending upwards of 36 hours of non stop play, well, with meal breaks and the occasional game of Mahjong to take a break from the role playing). I've always missed playing the game. My wife was never interested and all my old friends are scattered across the country, so when I found this game I was really pleased. :)

White rabbit..thanks so much for the link for the Hong Kong Mahjong( I have a real set inherited from my granddad but so far, haven't tried to play it..lol)
But the software one is GREAT!
I am learning and actually BEAT the others one time..lol.
Sukibabe..
the demo is free, and there seems to be no end of the evaluation period.
You are limited to about 6 rounds for each game, and also limited to only three other computer players of the available 12(I think there are)
I am enjoying it SO much that I think I may cave and buy it for Christmas..

Downloaded that Hong Kong Mahjong Whabbit, it is very close to "Mahjongg Game of Four Winds" that I had bought from egames.
Is the one posted above a full screen game and is there a charge? I notice this is an old thread...I took a look at the screen shots and it seems different.

I ended up finding another alternative to Four Winds Mahjong called Hong Kong Mahjong:

http://www.games2download.com/free-mahjong-games/hong-kong-mahjong.htm

It's not free, but in my opinion is well worth the $19.99 that it costs. For those that have never played 'real' Mahjong, then you will find there is a learning curve, but if you're a card player, it shouldn't be hard to pick up the rules.

Regards

Stephen

mah jongis a good "gambling" game,
I play it just for fun, but people gamble by playing mah jong (funnier then blackjack :)
I have two sets of mahjong, but I would like to play against the computer someday

Thanks for this link. I used to be an avid player of Mahjongg years ago. I even bought a nice set (with pretend ivory and real bamboo backs in the early 70's, which is stored somewhere in the loft. I feel like digging it out, but all my buddies who played with me are scattered to the four winds now. I've always enjoyed the solitaire ones, but have yearned to be able to play the four player game for years, but have never bothered to actually search the net. Thank you` for the above link; this is one game I think I will be buying sometime soon. :)

It doesn't say on the website - but the games look free already? The one I looked at reminded me of a basic style of SCUMM Style game (Like the Lucas Arts "Monkey Island" Style Adventure games)

Worth adding - Program is shareware (reg. EUR30) - Evaluation version is an older version of the program - minus additional tilesets. Site doesn't mention if evaluation times out or not.

For those of you wanting real Mah Jong (the four player kind):

Four Winds Mah Jong
http://www.4windsmj.com/intro.htm

They also have a PDA version available for Windows Mobile. I play it on my Dell Axim x50v all the time. The game has several themes (free editor, too), tile sets, and rule sets. You can even save games. It also gives LOTS of statistical information.

You guys HAVE to get this version. It turned me on to traditional Mah Jong. I know I sound like an advertisement, but it's *that* good.
