I think I found out by chance how to use the MultiWatchArchive Viewer : as soon as two captured files are available in the specified folder, the Viewer is able to see the files using the "Client" pulldown menu. When there is just one saved file, the viewer don't see it.

When this step is done, one has also to set up the time for viewing the captured screens : select the required capture date, enter 00:00 and 23:59 as start and end time. Then use F6, F7 to browse through the captured screens.

That's it !

Ultra VNC is still working on a patch for Vista.

The original VNC site/product does work with Vista though - available at http://realvnc.com/

You could use that (they have a free version) until UltraVNC catches up.

Question and tip :

I have found out the following : to start the client in hidden mode (no systray icon), it is only required to add "h" as a parameter : that is launching "MultiWatchClient.exe h" from a command line will launch a hidden client.

However, I am still having problems viewing recorded content with the Multiwatch Archive Manager : when launched, even if a recording has been performed, no recording appears to be selectable. Has anyone found a way to do this ? Thanx.

You sound like you're having some horrific problems with that software. I didn't install it myself as my husband uses <a href="http://www.uvnc.com/index.html">Ultra VNC</a> and wouldn't change his mind.

He absolutely swears by it, and he's a software engineer (with over 20 years experience,) who knows what he's talking about.

I think you'd breathe a sigh of relief if you treated yourself to this software. I just hate to see someone struggling so hard, when they simply shouldn't have to.

Aw man! I tried installing MultiWatch Client on my Windows Vista laptop but it work! All it says is Ms clent and Ms Manager and when I double clicked the client it says error! Does this mean I can't use MultiWatch on Windows Vista?

I think I'll stick to installing the client onto the laptop as http://www.portfowarding.com is telling me how to give instructions to the router on which computer to send infomation from the 'outside internet' and there's still hundreds and hundreds of pages left to read... Anyway, thx again I can see you are a very helpful user(no wonder you're a moderator).You helped alot of people by testing out the software for them which leads me to a conclusion that you have alot of space in your computer. If you spend all day at the computer, won't you get tired? Don't you ever take a break?

Caption = A name you want to give each 'screen' (a description)
Port = 775 (if you don't know what a port is - leave it as the default)

Yes you need to install the client on each of the laptops (and have the client running - in the system tray) to be able to view from the master pc.

In terms of connecting across the internet, you will probably be travelling across routers and firewalls and need to be familiar with topics such as port forwarding (possibly using ports other than 775 when there is more than one laptop behind a router/firewall) - you have quite a bit of background reading to do.

I just installed the MultiWatch manager. But Im still confused with the program. Under 'Client' and 'add' the program will be in this format:

It is possible the trial version is the same as the giveaway version. I really cannot say - as I didn't download the giveaway. One way to find out...

If you have activated the software on your PC - the newly download manager might recognise that registration as valid. Or it might not.

You may as well try it. It's not working right now - it can't possibly break any more than it already is.

(BTW - always extract each days giveaway into its own empty folder so you can see what files are provided with the giveaway).

That's because you are looking at the client - I was looking at the "MultiWatch Manager". The client doesn't really need much done to it. You can change the default port - or you can set a password - both are optional.

If you install and run the "MultiWatch Manager" you will see something like THIS.

It is from this program that you control the monitoring of the Pcs that are running the Multiwatch client. This program also gives you access to a help file and explains how to use MultiWatch (briefly).

Playing with it for a few minutes, it's actually fairly straightforward. I've now got a master computer and 2 clients running. The third program that you use is the MultiWatch Archive Viewer - that lets you look through various screenshots taken in the past.

Below is 'Listen Port' and a space to type in the ' port number. The program also shows the default port number (beside 'Listen Port') which is 775. Below it is

Well - I just downloaded a trial of Multiwatch.

How to setup.

Install the "MultiWatch Manager" and "Archive Viewer" on the "Master Computer" where you will do the "viewing of other Pcs".

Install the "MultiWatch Client" on each of the PCs you want to view or monitor. After installing the client, start it. Make a note of the the ip address.

- note: to get the ip address click on Start -> Run and then type
cmd /k ipconfig

on the Master PC - run the "MultiWatch Manager" Select "Client -> Add..." or just press 'T' to add a client to be monitored.

type a brief description and the IP address of the monitored client.

That should get you started. There is also a brief help file available from the "MultiWatch Manager" under "Help -> Contents"

That should work on a LAN - If you are wanting this to run across the internet you may need to go a step further setting up port forwarding on modem/routers and firewalls. Running over the internet can be a little more complex to setup.

Must admit, I'm puzzled too.

After I downloaded the software and launch it, all I can see is a small icon at the toolbar. When I click on it, a small box came out and asked for my old and new password. However, What does this do? How does MULTIWATCH work?
