They must have fixed it very quickly because i have just tried and got the download link straight away,and downloaded it with no problems.
The blank page on mine was a agreement and once you pressed i agree it sent the download link

Those aren't the games we're discussing hotdoge. Those are actually just mod's for other GTA games. The first is a completely different game from a completely different developer.

GMMan, it doesn't matter if you could remember the domain or not. The link would never be allowed here as it is in direct violation of Rockstar's terms. As you said, just throw some junk info at it and you're all set...as long as they fix the link that is.

That's what I got. a link to a clickable link, then a blank page. I tried firefox, firefox with no blockers, and IE8- same deal, and I too sent them a message. no reply here either.

In order to download, you HAVE to download from rockstar....otherwise it's not legal. Technically the games aren't freeware, they are registerware. That means that once you click on the game you want, you have to fill in your information to download the game.

That being said, I got curious and tried the download myself. I got the e-mail, clicked the download link, and nothing. I'm attempting to contact RockStar to let them know something is wrong with their Classics downloads.

and G@rgoyles synopsis (at the very least for GTA the first) brings you right back to the page I found. If someone figures out how to download from the (*)_(*&^%) link they give you, please let me know- I haven't got an answer back. and I'm still looking for an abandonware site that doesn't send you there to download.

You'll find GTA I and II posted in the freeware project. Just go to G@rgoyles synopsis and you'll find it there.

The commercial ones are cheap now, especially the early 3D ones, all apart from GTAIV, but even that can be purchased for a knock down price occasionally from Steam. I've seen it selling for less than five pounds during one of the more recent sales.
You can get GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City for 5.99 each and San Andreas for 9.99 (pounds (don't have my keyboard set for pound sign at the moment). but I've seen all three for sale for a couple of pounds for the lot. You should check Steam when they next have a big sale. They seem to have seasonal sales now. There was a spring sale and a summer sale, so expect a Autumn/Fall sale as well as a Christmas sale, when prices are ridiculous.

The link to rockstar classics that goodgotd posted is the closest you will get to a free copy of grand theft auto,If you google grand theft auto freeware,this is where you will end up.
Also if you search abandonware you can download it there as well.

The website that GOTD listed for a download of "Grand Theft Auto 1" goes to "rockstar games.com". I followed the link to Rockstar Games where I learned that the game that I want to download was not available on the rockstar website.

A number of Grand Theft Auto versions are available through rockstar.com but the best I can tell is each of the listed games are payware.

According the rockstargames site for GTA and it's successors- No.

OOps- strike that- not exactly- At the Rockstar Classics page you can download volume 1,2 & 3! however-

(what fooled me was that they have a link to play it on Steam, and don't mention the classics downloads in the GTA page above, which only mentions DEMOS:)

There is an 8 bit demo, a 24 bit demo and a 3DFX demo, all offering you the chance to have a little taste of Grand Theft Auto, completely free. Just click on the icon of the demo you would like, tell your machine where to save the demo, and let the downloading commence. All these demos are set in Liberty City.

We also have a new demo available only for people with 3DFX cards, with special missions, set in the city of San Andreas. This demo is only available for 3DFX, and has not been previously released.

OTOH I'm having a hard time getting them to download from the links they emailed me, so YMMV. hopefully better than mine.

I seem to remember that recently someone on the forum mentioned that an early version of "Grand Theft Auto" (I may not have the exact name - but it should be close) could be downloaded as freeware or abandonware. I searched the GOTD website for the title "Grand Theft Auto 1 and found a link to download the game. Unfortunately the link led nowhere.

Is "Grand Theft Auto", in any version, available as freeware? If so, would you please suggest a working download link?
