Ok ok ok ... it was like this ...

I was intrigued by a website showing the math behind the art on my childhood Spirograph (reference my last post on hypotrochoids)...

... and it's possible ...by unfortunate coincidence ...that my salt-water levels were low at the time (sailors are prone to weirdness if we are away from ocean water more than a week or so), which would explain the brain-fade behind the spirographer post ...but I can redeem myself!

Presenting ........drum roll please ....

Whaahaahaa,..too much chocolate, eh?

Hmmm,..I wonder if Bobby actually saw the SpiroRama program, or if your post threw her into thinking it was just another link to Spirographer? Her grandkids may actually like it.

I'm sorry for the insult of the program was your's. I didn't know, but the link or whatever that I posted I think that site there is supposed to be advertisements on that website to pay for the costs.

"We recognize there is a customer there--we recognize they are not going to pay us, necessarily, directly. But we could use ad revenue as a model. Google has demonstrated that it works pretty well for certain types of applications"

Quote from that cnet page about it.

LOL! I'll place a program name with the link, next time.

Actually, I agree with you. I developed spirophobia at an early age.

I'm guessing Bobby has a hula-hoop, Twister, and a yo-yo in the closet, too...haha, sorry sailor, lol!

Hmmmm,...that SpiroRama IS kinda catchy after a while,...Oh nooooo!

-----------------------------------------

Interesting reading at your link - I'll read more when I am awake - Grrrrrr, I love the way these people try to make adware appear attractive.

It's not a program for me, I just don't understand it. Obviously I must have thought you were talking about the same program, but I downloaded both of them and didn't really care for them. The one that the topic creator posted I did download it, but didn't use it. Just saw the license file in the zip.

Quote MICHELLE:
"The reason for that Wolven is because that is a different version than is on cnet and a later version......"

-------------------------------------------------

Michelle,
Did you bother to read my post at all, check the links, the program name, program functions, author, contact addies, FAQ's..?

Bobby is searching for an inexpensive program to make graphics for genealogy and scrapbook pages, etc. I suggested an alternate (and it's freeware) program to Spirographer.

I was not talking about Spirographer at all. Spirographer is a completely different program to SpiroRama, which I linked to. SpiroRama is Freeware.

I downloaded and ran SpiroRama on XP prior to posting the link. It works fine and is a much better program than Spirographer, which is cheap and nasty. SpiroRama works via numerical input, as opposed to Spirographer's 'pen' function. The user inputs values into chosen fields and the program does the maths to generate the graphic.
There is a thumbnail preview showing what you are creating, as you go. Foreground-background colors and textures can be changed and melded at will.

Compare this, SPIRORAMA [FREE]:
http://home20.inet.tele.dk/husted/scnshots.htm
to this, SPIROGRAPHER [$20.00]: http://mac.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/Spirographer-Screenshot-4635.html

...No comparison in what you can do with the two programs.

SpiroRama should work on all versions of Windows, from '95 to Vista.

Oh, and did I forget to mention - SpiroRama is FREE!

The download itself is primitive, to say the least. I considered it a tool to create and enhance graphics that I make for kids scrapbook pages. I can manipulate the images in Photo Impact 11, making them 24k gold, changing the shape or size and generally customizing the entire thing.

I was surprised to see a Spirograph program (the name is trademarked), but after creating hypotrochoids and other Spirograph-like images here, http://curvebank.calstatela.edu/cycloidmaple/Oids/OidEG.html#OidEG ..
I went in search of a Spirograph program. Guess I should have stayed with Maple, eh?

I agree with Lee, a really crappy download. They probably abandoned the program so that's why they probably made a free version which imo isn't good.

Another downside to the program is it looks like it only supports two operating systems.

Date Added: Oct 2005
Operating Systems: Windows NT, Windows 2000
Requirements: 800x600 pixel (24 bit colors) - vb6 runtimes

Imo Windows Paint is better.

No, your age is not showing. Some people just don't look at the comments no matter what their age is and sometimes it pays to look at the comments. Not the first time they had a program like that on cnet where it was marked as free and really wasn't.

Thanks for the heads up, Michelle. You are absolutely correct, it is misplaced. I should have posted it under software suggestions.

I disregarded the user comments on C|net in this case; I tried to see it from the developer's point of view. He is trying build a business; if the demo allowed exports, what motivation would there be for purchase of the product? When a fully-functioning demo expires, many folks simply download a fresh copy and bypass the $20 shareware fee.

Maybe my age is showing, but I kind of liked the little Spirograph program. Could be the foundation for some terrific graphics, especially for genealogy and scrapbook pages. I could manipulate them in ULead's Photo Impact 11; make them 24k gold, perhaps? Still trying to decide about the price .. $10 perhaps, but not $20.
