I'm pretty sure that is a false positive

So what you do is click on the change action tool to allow the file to run.

I never delete anything and if I know something is a false positive or if I don't know if it is, I'll look the file up and then decide or if I am not sure I'll allow it to run like I did by clicking change action and below shows you the screen that came up when I selected it.

http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitled1mw5.jpg

You're right that it has some false positives and some people should not use it, but those that know what they are doing should have no problem. It's not uncommon for an antivirus to have a false positive. I'm sure it's not for an antispyware either.

System Restore in XP (I'm assuming that is what you are using) would have probably fixed that issue for you. Start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore as your registry would have been restored to an earlier time before you deleted/quarantined that registry key.

I would caution anyone against using spyware catcher express. the one time I tried it, it decided to delete some registry entry's in IE 6 with no prompting from me that cause it to crash as soon as it was launched.

I had to uninstall spyware catcher express and restore the entries it deleted in order to get a working IE 6 again.

I prefer programs that ask first before doing.

AVG 7.5 Internet Security has done really well for me. Includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, firewall, email scanner etc.. and the price is pretty decent. They of course offer trial d/ls too. http://www.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/crp/0?prd=triisw

I also like using Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner - and my most recent and favorite addition, CCleaner (it seems to catch what everything else misses) and it's also free.

I run them altogether and haven't had a compatibility problem at all. PC is purrrin like a kitten (for now anyway) LOL

Well I removed Webroot Spysweeper. I ran into a problem. The problem was this (when contacting msn (I called them) he said they could not give me a license for it (I could barely understand him), because they had no information. I guess that was because I have verizon with msn premium, they told me to contact verizon and they could help me. I contacted verizon, they said they couldn't help me as they have no licenses. They told me to contact Webroot. I contacted Webroot first because I didn't want to go threw this.

Maybe when I get the money I will just buy it if I notice spyware problems.

I use adaware, spybot search & destroy, Webroot Spysweeper, spyware blaster, Norton Security Scan (it's only an on demand tool, but it's free) Active Virus Shield. I just removed GesWall (because of a problem accessing safe mode). I think that was GesWall that was causing the problem.

Edit: and I also use SpyCatcher Express (I only use it as an on demand tool). It is free and can be downloaded from http://www.tenebril.com. Be careful with that one as it has a lot of false positives and I only recommend to run it as an on demand tool. It loads itself on startup everytime you run it though, so make sure you are using Webroot's startup program shield or for those that don't have it http://www.arovaxcompany.com/products/arovaxshield/ (freeware).

It will tell you when a program adds itself to startup and you can set it to automatic or it will ask you.

Sorry I misunderstood what you were saying though I would be careful as to what programs you install with Mcafee. I read a lot of complaints on their forum about them having to remove certain antispyware from there system. Wether you can download and install them after you install Mcafee I don't know.

Edit 2: Yes, you can install adaware or whatever other antispyware applications you want after you install Mcafee.

I think in Mcafee 11 they do include spyware protection. I think it's an all in one antivirus and I think they include the antispyware.

If you're talking about Mcafee offering a free antispyware, I don't see that happening.

http://us.mcafee.com/root/catalog.asp?cid=11344

All Mcafee products and what it includes. Their cheapest one also includes a firewall (the 3 in 1).

The Google Pack also includes Norton Security Scan which is only on demand and it will only remove viruses and trojans. (not spyware), but if you download yahoo's toolbar with the antispy feature you can get that too. (It's only on demand) No real time time protection is included. I am pretty sure that no real time protection is included with either of the packages.

Thanks for the link.

Yeh McAfee did go down, as I noticed on a product comparison chart recently. You will generally find that apart from the two or three top players, all those behind them go up and down the ratings ladder with each new release and/or review. If you are happy with AVS and feel protected using it, why change for the sake of change. Some people swear by Kapersky, others don't like it. I prefer Symantec's Norton Security, others feel it is a drag on their system,..and I know Tech's who will not touch or recommend Norton,..but it serves my purposes and gets the job done, so I have no need to change to another.

It's pretty much 'horses for courses' again. The one winning factor for McAfee is that their license renewal is far less expensive than most well known products. For those who use it and find an area of deficiency, there are always freeware products to cover any weakness. I remember reading recently that over the past year McAfee had dropped the ball with detecting spyware, which had lowered its ranking considerably. That being the case, I would be looking at augmenting McAfee with free anti-spy software,..but then again, we do that as a backup to major products anyhow, don't we.

Just kind of curious, was wondering how it was. I could use Mcafee 10 for free (because I am a msn member), but I have been very happy with active virus shield powered by Kaspersky a service of aol and it is free.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Look at the Feb 2007 test. Mcafee looks like it went down a lot.
