Hi, no I didn't leave GOTD.
Sorry ;)
I just needed a break, that annoying thing called RealLife can be rather tough sometimes. You know the saying: "When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping"? I did a lot of shopping in the last few weeks :-D
graylox

PS: A short comment to the original post here:
If there is any service in the WWW which gives away commercial software free and with even better conditions than GOTD, I'm quite sure, we would know about it. Having to pay for the email service looks like a scam to me - but who am I ;)

Nope,no goodbye to Giveaway of the day from me,not yet anyway...

I guess no one in his right mind would install/keep every program that Gotd is offering, even with today's terabyte hard disks...

But we did get some real gems in the past..and we'll probably get some neat ones in the future.
Sure, there are others offering programs ,but as I see it, over here we usually get the latest version of a program...for free.
So it's a good idea to stick around for a while...
:)

Well I don't know about you but I rather see what I am paying for before I buy anything and here they don't ask you for anything. Stuff might be annoying here, but at least it is free. I for one do not download from giveawayoftheday because I see no reason to waste hard drive space for a program I am not going to use.

HEY, Phlan..... how about sharing that website. OH, wait, you must have gone by now :-)Anyway, I have had lots of luck with GOTD, and have never had any kind of bug or Trojans showing up. I did have some problem with the recent WinUtilites Pro program, but managed to solve that, and found the people in these GOTD Forums very helpful and SANE :-)

Well good luck on your travels. I still think you should stick around here as well, that way you have 2 sites to get software from. Regarding the Stickr remember there is a thread discussing many ways you can remove it.

Forums have many uses, venting being one, so I understand phlan's post. In past month my puter got infected, and first place that came to mind was GOTD. Later learned infection came on Feb 8th or 9th, days I did NOT download from GOTD. And then, many GOTD members helped me, and taught me on this forum. Great learning experience!

However, I personally feel it's foolish to leave GOTD. If you have one shirt in the closet you know what you're going to wear. But if you have 2 shirts in the closet you have a CHOICE.

And Whiterabbit shows to go ya how transparent and up-front GOTD is with suggestion to post your new-found name on this forum. If only my local govt were so transparent!

I believe you have fallen for one of the oldest sales trick in the book, the “Bait and Switch”. This is how it works. A store (or site) advertises a sale on something and prices it at a ridiculously low price (an offer you can’t refuse) to get you in the store. You race out thinking you’re going to get a bargain; you’re primed to buy. However, when you got there you’re told they were all sold out. So to make it up to you the store will offer you something similar, but more profitable, for just a few extra dollars...lol ;)

That’s a shame phlan; I see no reason why you shouldn’t post the name of the website at least, then community members can make their own minds up.

With regards to Trojans, the giveaway owners put every software they are giving away through a rigorous round of tests using several well known malware packages. I don't know where you get the idea that there are loads of Trojans being found in the software. I do see some reports from a few members, but if you consider there's around 10 to 15 thousand downloads from the site every day, with only a few reports , and then only on a few software’s, it's almost certainly going to be a false positive. when I've followed these posts to see how they are resolved, it's always been shown that they were false positives.

Re: Stikr, I just ignore it. It's never caused any problems for me.

As for the software. I've gained a lot of excellent software from this site, but I usually buy that which I've found particularly good, simply because I believe the developer deserves to be compensated. If we all relied on free software the quality would eventually drop because not many developers are there to create free software for us.

I've always seen the giveaway project more as an extended demo project, where you get to really test the software with no limitations, and only when you're satisfied that the software does what you want do 'I' buy it.

Please ‘Scuze the rant; I didn't mean for it to come over as such.

Each to their own, so good luck in your travels across cyber space. :)

please do post the link as I'm always up for testing out more software. :)

I'd also be interested to see if they offer games that I can add to the free games project.

Thanks

W.R.

Following so many Trogens, bugs & this annoying Stickr Thing not seeing posts when I follow ALL the rules I have now found a site that is identical to this one but the you get you get full support from from the developers(GOTD you don't)where when they give you a key you can reuse it later say after a hard disk format you reformat here & the item key or password is gone forever or you have to wait & hope it comes around sure you might be FREE but for a small fee on this other site I paid the optional $15(Aust.) but I know that with a E Mail, IM or Text(Aussies Only Here) you can retrieve the Key/Password or free account like here & that's the only identical part but I'll keep having a look here each day but!!!

BUT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GOTD YOU ARE HELPING A LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE & I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST& NO I'LL NOT POST THE ADDRESS HERE AS IT IS UNFAIR TO GOTD DEVELOPERS.

I Don't Google Search, I Dogpile Search & Google Wave!

so GOOD BYE & GOOD LUCK GIVEAWAY OF THE DAY
