Thanks to all who have responded. As I mentioned previously, I downloaded and have been using the RadioGet offering from a few days ago. Nice little program. Here's the problem and why I've been asking about tagging software. RadioGet downloads MP3 files into separate directories by artist name, and also puts the artist name at the beginning of each MP3 file followed by the song title. However, when I load the songs into iTunes, the name of the artist does not appear in the file name, only the title of the song. Needless to say, this makes it difficult to determine which songs (by artist) I would like to listen to or load on my iPod.

I would assume that Media Monkey (Gold edition) would resolve this problem, but since I don't have the Gold edition, this isn't a viable solution.

Hi all, forget about the "MultiMediaPhile" software I mentionned earlier!

The instructions to get it free do not work and all their Email addresses are dead.

@ Samian: For your second question, Mp3tag supports online database lookups from, e.g., Amazon, discogs, or freedb, allowing you to automatically gather proper tags and cover art for your music library and TagScanner can get album info via online databases like freedb or Amazon.

For your third question, unfortunately, accuracy will depend on the original state of your music files, very badly coded files will trow it for a loop.

I don't know - as I have not used it enough (particularly this feature) to be able to give you an informed answer. The best thing (I believe) would be for you to try it yourself - that way, you will have firsthand knowledge of how efficient it is (per your individual preferences & taste). It's a free program, so you have nothing to lose.

Yes, Media Monkey has the "Auto-Tag" feature, which will allow you (via right-clicking your selected music track) to find all missing information via the web.

So let me get this straight, as I'm not a whiz with music software. Will any of the suggested software programs "sample" my MP3s, access an online music database, and then provide the missing information? The reason I'm asking this is because I downloaded yesterday's RadioGet offering, and would love to get the right data associated with the songs. As it stands right now, the songs are in separate file folders by artist, but iTunes doesn't pull the artist name from the file folder when I add the songs to my library.

Hey there, Paul, thanks much for the alternative freeware programs - I think I'll check them out, especially since CNET (editors and users) rate them highly.

As for your slight name change - whatever makes you happy is okay with us.

Can anyone suggest some software (preferably freeware) that can scan my music files and provide missing information (e.g., artist, actual song title, genre, etc...) I believe that I'm looking for a music tagging software, but I would like something that is relatively automatic.
