Hi Stocko I already have about half of the Eidos pack, but the price is still a fair bargain for the ones I don't have (I have Batman, the two Battlestations games, the first Deux Ex, Conflict Denied Ops, Hitman: Silent Assassin and Blood money, Just Cause, Shellshock 2, Thief: Deadly shadows and lastly Tombraider: Underworld. Most of them are DVD based games so i'll still get copies which would mean my son could play online with me. in fact the only game I'd lose is the Tombraider game. I find it annoying that they don't give you second copies if you already have them on your steam account. I think they would make great gifts for friends. I just wonder whether what they are doing is legal? As for Gratuitous space Battles, I was a little disappointed in it in the end as all you really do is set up your space ships then the rest is automatic. Once you've set it in process you have no control over the ships which i thought was a swizz. The videos I watch before deciding to buy it gave no indication as to the mechanics of the game. Still, I did find it an okay game. Probably worth buying at a discount but not at full price. If you like puzzle games and in particular the samorost type ones you'll love Machinarium. Check out the original first if you're not sure. Just google Samorost and you'll find loads of hits. Or download the Machinarium demo first. i tried the demo first before deciding i wanted the game. A good friend from the giveaway community actually gifted the game to me which was brilliant. Out of the three games i'd say Trine has been the most fun. It's also got gorgeous graphics. It's on the 24 hour deal today for just over £4 so it's definitely worth buying. I also love the Prince of Persia games though I only own the latest two. I'm tempted to buy more of the earlier ones, but until I've completed at least one I wont bother. :) I'd definitely go for the Civilization game. I don't play it much these days, but its still a fantastic game. I have fond memories of playing the original when it was first released (fitted onto one floppy disc. I can still play that original version. Thanks for your thoughts on the other games. i'm still very tempted to buy AI Wars, but I've got an even longer list of games I want now after going through all the genre lists. There are too many to mention here, lol.

That Luxor deal for 99c is a steal. Luxor 3 is one of the best in the series.

I know what you mean Wizz. I'm buying so many repeats simply because I now prefer playing them via Steam that using a disc to play them. It's more convinent, I don't need to use a disc to start up the game, they can be installed on multiple computers and they are kept up to date with the latest patches.

Which Stalker game did you get, the first or the second. I have both on disc, but already have the first on Steam as well, plus I'm thinking of getting Clear Air as well as its less than £4 at the moment. Lol Steve that definitely is a lot. :) Still, at the prices Steam was selling them at, its probably well worth it.

That said I just received an Email from Game Uk, the gamehouse that I used to buy all of my DVD's from. they had quite a good sale on and I decided to buy a couple of the games for example I got Codename Panzers: Cold War for less than £5 wheras I'd have to pay over £10 on Steam, I also bought a second copy of Section 8 so that I can play with my son. He really likes the game and wanted me to buy another copy via Steam, but the one from Game UK was half the price at £8. I also bought a third copy of Red Faction Guerilla as my daughter now wants to join in some online play. I intend just to open up a server with the three of us as I think she's still too young to play in the open (so to speak). It cost me less than £9, which I think is amazing. Oh yeah, I couldn't wait any longer for Avatar to be sold via steam in the UK. Though I'm glad I waited so long as Game UK are selling it at a 33% discount as a holiday discount. After your comment about it being a little disappointing, I read loads of reviews and watched quite a few videos. It's not exactly what I'd hoped for, (so yes I'm a little disappointed) but it still looks like a game I'll enjoy. Just watch; Steam will now decide they can sell it in the UK as well, lol (it's been available in the UK since 4th Dec 09, but Steam kept insisting that it wasn't). Though I suspect what they meant was they personally hadn't been granted a licence to sell it in the UK. :)

Boy Maud, you said it "This is the other reason I don't usually buy games. Just as with books, I knew I'd find it very difficult to stop once I got started!" First it was "I'll never spend $20 on a game",then "I'll never spend $6.99 on a game", now I'm scarfing up BFG's $4.12 games (only a little over a dollar more than $2.99). It's amazing how they can suck you in.

Even with my limited budget I picked up Braid, Indigo prophecy, the jedi knight pack (which I almost regretted when they released the star wars premier pack the next day!), the orange box (for less than $20) and darwinia/multiwinia. All purchases I'm very satisfied with.

I appreciate where you're comin from Whiterabbit about regretting purchasing full-price games. This week alone we've seen Mass Effect and Bioshock for $5, not to mention the crazy package deals as well. Ridiculous.

Just trying to decide if it's worth buyin a few more indie games (Machinarium, Gratuitous Space Battles, Trine), Threadspace, the Prince of Persia games and maybe even Civ IV (though I missed it at the mega low price).

Wrabbit, I would probably recommend the Eidos pack as a whole. It was recommended to me earlier in the week but I already own quite a few of the games. Some standouts in there (for me) are Batman: Arkham Asylum, the Hitman games, Deus Ex (just about my fave game of all time), Thief and the Tomb Raider titles. If you already have these games (or most of them) the pack is probably not worth purchasing. Having said that, I can't comment on the Battlestations games (which look good) or any of the others as I haven't played them.

I've tried the demo for AI War: fleet command but it was just too complex for me - probably worth a look if you're into space/hardcore RTS though.

I have Heroes over Europe on Xbox - really fun arcade shooter imo. It's not particularly deep though, probably wouldn't recommend it full price but worth a look at the sale price. I would probably recommend it over the Blazing Angels Pack (though I have not played those games extensively).

Finally, Altitude is an interesting one - the demo gives you a really good idea of the game. Personally, I didn't like it but of course, that doesn't mean other people won't.

Phew, that's all...for now :p.

Hi, WR. I don't play the same sorts of games you like, but I'll answer your question about purchases because I'm so glad you posted about this deal! I have a rule about not purchasing games because my budget is so tight, and this site has enabled me to find so many free games, fortunately! But when I saw the great offers on Steam, I threw out the rule (temporarily)!

I got the Build a Lot 4-pack for $6.24, which was terrific, as I really enjoyed the first Build a Lot, which I got free from Big Fish, but none of my Big Fish games currently work. Every time I try to start one up, I get this message: "drmactivator.exe has stopped working", even if I open the Big Fish games manager using "Run as administrator" or if I go into the game file itself and click the executable using "run as administrator". The Big Fish site isn't much help on this issue; I suppose I'll get it sorted out eventually, but meantime I was really pleased to get all four Build a Lot games.

I also got Luxor 3 for 99 cents, the Mahjong Quest 3-game-package for $2.49, the Broken Sword twin-pack for $4.99, and the Lucas Arts 4-pack for $4.99, as I was interested in Loom, which was $2.49, so I figured I might as well go for the 4-pack for $2.50 more. This is the other reason I don't usually buy games. Just as with books, I knew I'd find it very difficult to stop once I got started!

Anyway, thanks a lot for posting about this. I find myself less and less interested in the games GameHouse makes available for free and, as I said, my Big Fish games don't work at present, but I now have sufficient games to keep me busy for quite some time!

Only 2 more days to go before the Christmas deals end. I'm again flabbergasted at some of the deals that have been made. It definitelyy makes me want to avoid pre-ordering any more games as several that I've bought this year at full price have been almost given away for virtually nothingt all. Even games that have only recently been released have been sold cheaply; for example I paid over £60 for Dirt 2 and Operation flashpoint: Dragon Rising, both of which have been released over the last several weeks. You can get both of those games plus 16 other high profile games for only £44.99..... that's amazing. Even if half theg ames didn't appeal to you it would still be worth purchasing as it's a phenominal saving on the original price, or indeed the present price of the individual games added together. The deal is part of the Codemasters catalogue which also includes the first Dirt , Fuel; (a brilliant open world racer that includes some vast areas of post apocalyptic America to race and explore, which is based off satellite imagery of the areas such as the Grand Canyon. there's thousands of miles of roads and dirt tracks covering an area around 14 000square kilometers, plus the open terrain to explore), also Clive Barkers Jerico, Ashes Cricket 2009, Brian Lara's Cricket 2007, Damnation, Hospital Tycoon, Maelstrom: The Battle for Earth Begins, The Overlord set of games (3 titles), Rise of the Argonauts, Toca Racer Driver 3, Soldiers: Heroes of WWII, and Second Sight

I've been holding back on most of the games I want just in case they end up as one of the 24 hour deals. Looks like tomorrow is going to be one of the last days of the sale. I think it ends on Sunday, then I'll have to decide which games to buy once I've seen the last of the 24 hour specials. Thankfully I've managed to secure a few of those, but not as many as I'd liked as many I'd aready purchased.. I've got a list of about 14 games plus one more pack that I want, but after buying the Codemasters pack I'll have to decide whether to purchse a couple of the less discounted games such as Heroes over Europe, Codename Panzers: Cold War and the Eidos pack, or go for all the cheaper deals. :)

Can anyone tell me what they think of the following games?

Desperados 2
Heroes over Europe
Blazing Angels Pack
Cold Fear
Act of War: High Treason
Thread space
AI War: Fleet command
Sim game pack
Codename Panzers: Cold war
Tycoon city
Monster Truck Nitro
Altitude
Shattered Union
Eidos Games pack

I did purchase the Codemasters pack for my son so that we can play a lot of the games together, and a good giveaway friend bought me the Complete Doom and Hexen pack (thanks man, that was a great Christmas present). I have 13 of the ones included in the Codemasters pack. I told my son that the cricket games and the Argonauts were to be considered mine lol.

Has anyone made any game purchases from Steam over the sale period? It would be interesting to hear what you've bought and what you fancy buying. I have several hard copies of games that I now find are surplus to requirement since purchasing packs that contain them and may consider giving them away for free if they are included in your wanted lists. :)

W.R.
