It's one thing to offer me ads because the advertiser bought space - it's another icky kettle of fish to SCAN my PC and offer me stuff..

In short, it is another form of Adware as it is similar to Google AdSense, except it displays advertisements in installation programs instead of websites.

According to Wikipedia, OpenCandy is a company based in San Diego which produces a Web 2.0 advertising software module. It is a Microsoft Windows library which can be incorporated in a Windows installer.

When a user installs an application which has the OpenCandy library, they are presented with the option to install additional software that it recommends (based on a scan of the user's system and geolocation).

It has attracted some criticism due to privacy concerns.

Past versions of OpenCandy were considered adware by Microsoft Security Essentials as they 'may send user-specific information...without obtaining adequate user consent'.

I think I'm done with Gamehouse. They are now using OpenCandy as part of the installer.

I am still not able to download from Gamehouse.....is anyone else still having a problem?

I've tried everything suggested and nothing helps. This isn't just with free games, there's one I want to buy and I can't even do that. UGH!!!!!!!

I was finally able to get a live chat with them and after some troubleshooting we found it to be a firewall problem. I just have to disable it when I do a d/l from them. I don't mess with the firewall so I have to see if hubby can change a setting that will fix the problem (I don't dare do it myself or he'll....well......we won't go there.....lol).

I am 30, but overweight. Well my doctor doesn't seem to concerned about it, but I am. I guess if he was that concerned he would have done testing. I guess he is holding off on that till next time. I thought about writing all my problems down and just handing him the paper.

Michelle, it may be a "fibroma". I found one some years ago and the doctor cut it out and had it tested - just a mass of fibers. He said they are just a part of aging. He said that he rarely sees anybody under 40 with them and just as rarely sees anybody over 50 without them! I was in my forties then. I think I have another one now. They're benign and cause no problems. Just a bit unsightly if they get bigger.

Thank you all. My grandmother, I never knew her but my dad said she had those kinds of veins, but my doctor on the other hand thinks they are fatty lumps. He said the only way they are cancer if I have cancer somewhere else. Thanks a lot doc! He asks me do you feel lumps anywhere else? No doc, I told you where I feel the lumps. Then I was worried about bone cancer and he tells me you don't have bone cancer. He tells me not to look online and try to diagnose myself, but I do because finding things online is a lot quicker than seeing a doctor.

It feels like a lump in my fat on my leg.

Update on the above: after an awful lot of searching around, I've found that the recent update of AVG Free has given rise to a lot of false positives. This is a new one on me as I've never had any problem with it before. Consequently, I've currently lost a lot of my games and am going to have to get them back from a backup, but how long it will be till they sort out the problem, I don't know. Trouble seems to be that if it's detecting something as a virus, it won't let me get at it even though it's actually OK. I confess that I'm rather lost here as I'm not a techie!

I've had a major problem since yesterday when I downloaded Faded Reality and played a bit of it. All seemed fine then, but when I switched my computer on this morning, all my games have acquired a virus according to AVG (Win32 Heur). I find it hard to believe that something nasty has arrived from Gamehouse as I've never had that sort of problem with them, and they have a good reputation. Anyway, I've run a full scan in safe mode and on switching back on I'm not getting any nasty messages. Whether or not I'll be able to play any games is an unknown at present, but I'll see what happens.

Hi Michelle. Sorry to hear about your legs. Are the lumps hard or soft? My hubby has lumps on his legs and it turned out they are vericose veins. Believe me, these do not look like vericose veins at all. That was the last thing we expected. Hope it turns out to be nothing serious. You'll be in my prayers too.

Robert, I followed all the steps and got the same result as before. In addition....as the game is "trying" to download/install the Gamehouse website in the background keeps flashing......like it's trying to load but can't stabalize. This is getting to be very annoying. Thank you so much for all you've been doing to try to resolve the issue. If you give up I don't blame you. :)

I am okay. I am worried about lumps in my right leg. The doctor doesn't think it is cancer. He said if it is I would have cancer somewhere else. I have to wait till May 5 to see him again. He said they can cut them out.

BTW I was having this problem last night too when I tried to reinstall a game I had previously purchased from GH.

It makes me feel better that it's not just my computer, but it's a pain because I usually do other things while I'm waiting for the download from GH to finish. Faded Reality was actually a rather small file so I don't think the large file size would apply in this case.

AFAIK it could be a temporary ISP problem.
I usually click on ' repair' connection (right clicking on the connection symbol in the notification area to flush DNS cache etc. and get a new connection.
And that usually works like a charm. :)

Bk...from the Gamehouse support page:

Firefox 3.5:
1. Click the Tools menu.
2. Click Clear Recent History.
3. Select Everything in the Time Range drop-down menu.
4. Click the arrow next to Details.
5. Uncheck everything except "cache". Make sure "cache" is checked.
6. Click Clear Now.
7. Restart your browser and try your download again.

It has been more than two weeks since she last posted.

I'm getting a message that my connection has been lost but it hasn't, I'm connected and doing other things. I tried stopping everything but the download/install but that doesn't help. Also, it's not just with the free games. Last night I tried to reinstall one I purchased previously and I got the same thing. If anybody figures out what's up please let us know.

I just downloaded Faded Reality with no problems however I think I've seen the lost internet connection on a couple of the other large downloads. The download stopped saying No internet connection however when I tried to access Google all was fine. The connection was there. I tried the download again and all was fine.

I also hope Michelle is OK.

Is anyone having this problem? For the past several downloads, while the game is downloading my internet connection is disconnected so I can't surf other sites. This doesn't happen with other downloads. Any ideas?

BTW today is Faded Reality.

I couldn't get this when I saw it earlier, but I've just tried again and it's downloaded this time. It took the usual couple of goes to get it to work but it looks OK. It's got very good reviews.

Just thought I'd let everyone know the current game giveaway is http://www.gamehouse.com/download-games/golden-trails-the-new-western-rush, which is a HOG. Judging from the blurb and screenshots, it looks like it is an interesting game.

Note minutes later: Not that I can download it. I've clicked onto the home-page link several times, and it just goes to the page I gave the link for. :(

I've had a few problems recently with downloading the free game from GH, but I've managed to do it eventually each time. I find that it helps if I clear my cache first, then download the installer (no problem), but when I go to run the installer it first of all comes up with the small screen with the shaded hatched line, then often goes to a white screen and sticks there. I then stop this with Ctrl+Alt+Del, then try again and it often gets a bit further the second time. Frequently it takes three or more goes before it actually installs the game. However, I've had no mention of Chrome and it certainly is not present on my computer. For the record, I run Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.13 with AdBlock Plus installed (I've had my suspicions that this may be where the hold-up occurs). Once I can actually install the game, it runs perfectly well with the adverts occurring (which I'm happy with - it's free, after all).

I don't know if this helps at all, but it does look as if something has been changed with the installer recently.

Marjory, the thing I have noticed with GH is that here recently I have had trouble getting to download the giveaways. I would click onto the box on the home page, which takes you to the download page, but instead of the usual page, it would go to the page for purchasing the game. I had to work with it to get the games, a few times.
