When I bought my camera from Kodak a couple of months back I was excited about the online capability of it. They call it easy-share.

You sign up thinking its a normal store you're pictures and with a limited amount of free space.
Nope, they want you purchase pics of the pics you post or stuff from the store and they offer you specials.

If you don't make a purchase after awhile, they start sending you reminder emails and then they cancel your account by the 3rd one.

It is hard to read, but it says message 2, so this 2 of of 3.
Needless to say I don't bow down to marketing terrorism. They did not get my business. This kind of marketing is completely unacceptable regardless if you signed up for it or not, nobody reads the fine print.

I think I'll pass on that whole concept! Look at all the people that have computers and aren't online, for one thing. Plus, with all the sickos out there that love giving us viruses, and getting into online banking systems, and identity theft, etc. I don't want any part of it. It's going to open a great big can of worms!
Sounds like it's a good way for 'big brother' to delve into all of our personal business! (Not that they haven't already!)

The mega-corporations want to sell us on Operating Systems and environments that are hosted entirely on the Internet. This is dubbed Cloud Computing and it's already here. For sure, the IT industry still has a long way to go before us consumers take the bait.
Here is one example out of a multitude available on the Web right now:

Hope this isn't changing the subject, but hubby just told me he saw something on TV that's coming up (down the road) where there won't be any hard drives needed! Has anyone else heard of this? It must be way, way, down the road.

yeah, but film (depending on exact age) had shortcomings too- store it wrong, and it decays.

I'm going over to DVD-R since I found CD-R's failing for no apparent reason, and anything I think is critical at all I use the space (~25%) and CPU time (massive- Reed-Solomon codes- but it can use multiple cores- which I haven't got) to use ICE ECC to set up recovery volumes. puts PAR2 to shame when it comes to recovering completely missing files.

So far, since 2005 I haven't had a single data failure on a dvd-r that's burned and verified correctly, while CD-R's have failed badly over less time.

And me too. :) I always feel web based storage makes your files even more etheral than they already are. I sometimes rue the day vinyl and negative film was superceeded by digital media, as the files we now have as replacements seem so unreal, lol. One of the album sleves I have by a band called Greenslade contained a beautifully illustrated book with a weird story and another album by Hawkwind converts into a chaos shield (lol). Though I must admit since getting into digital photograpy I'd never return to negative film simply because of all the advantages digital has over negative based film. The least of which is of course the ability to take hundreds if not thousands of images rather than being tied down to the number of film cassettes you have. I remember taking six 36 exposure films with me when we got married in Thailand in 1996. That equates to around 216 images. On average now, when we go on vacation I always take at least a thousand images. I wish I'd have had a digital camera back then as the place was beautiful.

I only use local files too.. so I guess web based wouldn't work for me. Otherwise the concept sounds good.

Yep, goody, I'm too.
After I found out that even my private albums in photobucket were open for everybody who clicked the right Google link, I refrain from online photo albums.

But nevertheless, this tool looks like a nice toy for playing around with pictures.
