Damian, sorry I meant to post last night, but I was wore out and forgot. Just for clarification, because I originally thought as you did, almost none of the forum moderators are involved with the main pages. You have to have higher privileges for that. You have to have at least some administrator privileges. Much of the moderation is done by the GOTD staff. As far as I know, only two regulars here can moderate over there. Bubby does it as much as he can - you can tell because the quality, IMHO, is significantly higher - but the rest of the time it's GOTD staff. That's why you can notice that personal attacks, for example, sneak through at certain times. There really isn't a consistent vision of how the comments page should be moderated - something I think is a significant problem. And Bubby will often rescue comments that the spam filter incorrectly dumps in the trash. Something I'm sure doesn't happen when he's not doing it. Which I think explains some of what appears to be censorship complained about in other threads. Though I'm not saying it's bad, I don't have the unbridled faith in the spam filter that some others here seem to have.

The only other person is WR, and his privileges only extend to the Games page, which is, of course, his baby. So there's a lot of difference between the way this page is moderated and the way the comments section is. For one thing, the moderators here are in at least informal contact regularly and seem to have a common vision. For another, the rules here are, I think, more clearly spelled out. The rule over there is supposed to be, basically, "stay on the software". You're welcome to form your own opinion about how effective that is. LOL.

I was reading the my post. Sorry, about the typos. It makes a bit harder to read. It seems so much clearer when you type out a thought.

Thanks rabbit, it really is good piece a software. I couldn't believe that I ran across a program I was needing at the moment. It never works that way. You always find them after you do something drastic, like a restore.
-------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of restores, people who read this that are running windows 7 need to be careful if you have restores files and backup files on the same computer. Meaning that you have a separate partition for backups.

I made a mistake abut 10 hours ago with iolo system mechanic by changing the prefetch to the virtual drive. Wouldn't have been a big deal, but I was having a keyboard error before. It has to do with W7 drivers and this type of keyboard.

Anyway, I was going to run a restore and wasn't paying attention, cause a restore is a restore , right----nope wrong. Evidently without paying attention, I clicked through an option to run a restore from a complete backup. I kind of noticed it when it happened, but wasn't sure, but it booted back up to when I first installed W7.

Fortunately I only keep the basics on the primary partition anyway and everything else is split up on a drive, split into partitions. Steam is one those on another partition, whew.

Every now and then it's helpful to have a look at:
Rules For These Forums

Especially:

*3* No warez related posts or requesting/supplying activation/registration keys for giveaways. (including linking to sites that promote the use or distribution of warez)

*5* If suggesting or recommending a program - post a link to the developers/original download site. Links to general download sites or mirrors may be out of date or go down. No direct linking (to executables etc) - many sites consider "direct linking" as bandwidth theft - and users should always land on a download page so they can see what they are downloading.

I think BuBBy's words are clear.
One more word to the moderators, BuBBy is the only administrator of the forums who can moderate the comments-sites (of course not 24/7), WR moderates only the games.

I admit that the R. blog is not on the top of the piracy hierarchy, it's a mix of tech info, key-gens, legal downloads, piracy and everything in between. There are plentiful of such blogs, you never know, who "borrows" from whom. And all of them try to run down the others. That's the amusing part when reading them.

The programme Txnnok posted, is not "evil" - though the developer's name could suggest this. I follow this site quite a while, they have some other good tools too.
https://evilfingers.com/tools/index.php

Speaking about evil software - today's giveaway would be reason enough to block the poster. Let's hope the GOTD team made only a (bad) Halloween joke.

Hi Graylox - thanks for the response.

I don't know if I'd consider Raymond's site dubious/shady - more along the lines of informative. Knowledge is knowledge - there's nothing inherently evil about it. It depends on how one utilises it.

Having said that then this entire thread could be deemed to be of a dubious nature as it promotes software that could be used in a less than honest way.

So link to the original post or link directly to the software - what then is the difference?

Regards - Damian (not an evil mod)

Edit - I missed that discussion

Edit 2 - I was not aware of mods being different depending on DL site or Forum (that's interesting).

@ rezidue

The moderators of the comments are not the same as the moderators in the forums.
We had quite a lot discussions about the moderation or not-moderation of the comments site.

In the past ashrafs post was deleted here too, that was the time as he posted GOTD reg-codes.
It seems, that he got a deal with GOTD. He may write his cliffhangers and GOTD gets some publicity in his blog.

After we got complaints from developers that illegal download-links from raymond and others were posted in theses forums, and after some research, we decided that such links will be deleted. That was not a secrete or rash decision; we discussed it in the forums.

---EDIT---
Again, the evil mod edited it, and I think we wrote quite a lot about such shady blogs.

The Enabler is a good tool, to get free from the original web-site, it's not necessary to boost the clicks for a blog which has no problems to distribute keys and "free"ware which is not thought to be free distributed.
You may download from which warez site you ever wish, but you should not publish those links in the GOTD forums.
Firstly: Here are a lot of inexperienced users who could be lured into a rogue trap.
And secondly: The GOTD team not only pays for the giveaways, it also ensures the developers that this project will counteract software piracy.

I don't think that it is good for the reliability of the project, when fishy tricks from dubious blogs are posted in the GOTD Forums.
Please think about it.

As far as I'm aware he would only make money if a user clicked on an add - just going there to read his articles does not pay anything.

I only posted the link to Raymond's site because I thought people might like to see the entire article.

Sorry but some of the moderation on this site is a joke and even Mod's don't follow the rules - you can't have one rule for one and a different rule for another. Shouldn't you remove all of Ashrafs links to his site as well?

Quite frankly I'm amazed at some of the stuff that does get through and many of my posts don't and they are far from rude, slanderous or otherwise and definitely no more ridiculous than others that make it.

Someone there needs to point this out to ALL moderators. I think there is a clear cut case of favouritism and the opposite holds true as well.

Ridiculous - now remove this post too because someone out there just won't be able to handle it...

This awesome piece of software gets those greyed out feeatues in windows working again.
I always seem to lose the play sounds at windows startup feature whenever I install something that has a codec or especially uninstall it.
I know must of us have here on this site and most of the time we end up doing a restore to get the feature back. https://evilfingers.com/tools/enabler.php
NOT ANYMORE! This program called the Enabler.

Enabler is a tool that could be used to enable the disabled Windows buttons. To use this tool, click on the “Enable” button in the EvilFingers – Enabler.

There is no requirement/need for privilege escalation because this will enable any button on the user's windows and there is no requirement to be a root/super user for enabling the buttons.

Credit: Jack O'Neill.

---EDIT---

I just tested it for the problem I described above and does work. This program does not install, it runs and then you close it.
I don't know about y'all, but I think this one should make it to list.
