Try installing this. Its worth a try you know thats what it is.. MS uses winzip, but its cut down version. They are running a beta version in windows 7.

I'm sure it costs after a trial, altough I dont see it mentioned, but it may work and if does after an uninstall the regular winzip installer might be left behind or an updated basic.

Are meaning you lost the path to the installer, basically? You click to run anything and it pops up a box asking what you from.

If this is the case, I've been there done that. I haven't found a solution. Restores won't fix it either. I tried downloading new installers. I finally gave up and reinstalled.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you do reinstall. Format hard drive into separate partitions, so you that you can doing them as you go along.

I miss adjusted the space on mine, I was wanting really you should put windows by itself and everything. This way no program touches windows except for the registry and if has a saving file, which you can move.

you should be to reuse you paragon home edition to do this.

When windows 7 comes in, I'm going to do it that way. have a partition for windows saves and a partition for program the partition for saving will need to twice as large as both.
Or go with a raid, which is what I really want to do, but I'm a raid noob.

Thank you very much, Robert, you've put my mind at ease about the Manufacturer's DVD installation disks. That's wonderful news.

I think I may have misspoken before - when I say the "run" function is not working, I'm talking about the "setup.exe" executable, when I try to download/run programs.

But, anyway, the DVD disks will solve this problem, and I can't wait.

Many thanks again,
Happy

Happy,
The manufacture's re-installation DVDs will allow you to do a clean install..not to worry about that..and with a bit of luck there's a windows system repair option on them too.

As to the windows run box,you should be able to launch anything you like, using Ctrl-Shift-Enter instead of Enter.
If there are only a couple of programs that don't work try reinstalling them.

Try this, got you start box, type msconfig, right click -run as an admin,

do not exit during any of this
your boot box will come up, if it is selective start up, click normal start up, then apply, (if it on normal, click it selective click apply- then click normal then apply)

go to service box, click enable all then apply, then go to start up click enable all then click apply.
exit then restart
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
were are restarting all youre services and making new paths if some were deleted.

after reboot-go to advance system settings. It will be in system properties, you can get through clicking through systems and it will be on the left hand side.

click system protection once you find it. you will find your hard drives, check all the ones you use for storing files, pictures , programs , anything,

this is for your restore files, but to get it to do restore on all, you really need all of the ones you use checked. Found that out the hard way. yea I could do restores, except for when it mattered.

hope this works
I just went through something similar

If you can wait till the 22,windows 7 comes out. buy a copy of windows 7 upgrade.
Install a trial copy a vista, I would ultimate. It has a much better shadow copy service and full back up program. Then do an install of windows7 of it.

You might do some research and see you can install upgrade to windows 7 from xp, It has been debated by my friends ,But I have never looked myself.

Hi Graylox, thank you for your reply.

Yes, I tried to do system restore - it did not work.....
I did not think about the revo uninstall, but I do not have this program, and I think it's probably too late for that now.

I'm using Vista and, no, I had not back up my OS at the time that this happened.

In any case, my computer manufacturer sent me a follow-up reply, confirming that the DVD system recovery disks will allow me to do the clean re-install of my OS.

So, I will go ahead and buy them (for $18.95.) It's worth the money, to have these disks, to restore my system, and to have it for any similar situations in the future.

Many thanks again for all of your valuable and wonderful suggestions.

Best,
Happy

Sounds terrible!

Happy, I presume that you have already tried to restore after you deleted that programme?
Revo's restore function saved my ... several times when an uninstallation messed the system up. Well, mostly it's me who makes a mess :(

I think our computer pros can give you a better advice when they get some more background info.
What OS, what did you do, did you get an error message and what did it say,...?
What about all the nice backup programmes we got and hopefully used? I thought they should/could help in such situations.

Not much help from me - just some tips.

Hi all,

If you remember - awhile back we downloaded a GiveAway program for organizing our desktop folders (I forget what it was called). Anway, when I uninstalled it, it totally messed up my registry editor entries, and I now am unable to download programs, or run certain programs.

I am going to buy the OS system re-installation DVDs from my computer manufacturer so I can do a clean install of my OS.

My question to everyone is this - will these re-installation system DVDs work, even though currently my run.exe windows executable is not working?

I just want to make sure before I buy the DVDs, which are non-returnable.

Thanks much, in advance, for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Best,
Happy
