Now it could be you accidentally clicked on one of those banners and upgraded to a (time limited)paid version. Check your license no.It should read something like 8FREE- at the beginning. But to be on the safe side,my advice to you would be to download and install the latest free Avg version (when done removing your present version - you might have to reboot a couple of times) Be sure you opt out of things you don't want to be installed. I would think when you have a registered AVG programme, they would not notify you via a pop up. Especially after that "red shield safety warning" I would be concerned. Don't forget to scan your system for malware. (go to mywot.com and enter it in) That should tell you whether it is safe or not. Also, look at the root of the link and make sure it matches the AVG address perfectly. If all that turns up positive, then you are ok. This message appeared after I had a red shield safety warning this morning, and I'm seriously suspicious about it. I went to the AVG website to see if there was any info, but found nothing. Can't see why they'd need to change the number! I'd appreciate some advice from more experienced computer users here in the forums. Thanks Tizz
