Dragonlair, tell him I said "You're welcome, and I can relate...:D". I'll tell you all this; I have a certain family member who likes war games, and plays them on a rather loud volume. Now, I have this nice 5.1 Logitech speaker set, with a subwoofer, mind you, so it is NOT a quiet time when those games are being played. As it is now, my family, computer, and speakers are all staying at a friend's house, helping him as he recovers from a very bad motorcycle accident. I have those speakers here, but haven't hooked them back up to the computer, yet. Why not, you ask? LOL...because that war game lover has to wear headphones to hear the sounds of the game, and thusly no one else has to put up with all the noise when watching TV. Sooo, for now, the speaker system sits in its box, patiently waiting for me to hook them back up. Funny thing about it all is that that person hasn't complained one time, or said anything at all, about the speakers not being hooked up...(chuckle).

Dragonlair... no, I don't think RA "works" now, or ever will with that darned "upgrade." I never did upgrade after I read about people losing their older games that are no longer for sale, so I stuck with the old player through all of this. That was the first site I ever belonged to (for many years!), so did feel a certain loyalty for a long, long time. But no more, as the games are overpriced ($9.99 w/ GamePass) and don't work for a lot of posters there, as I still do check in on the site forum. Keep hoping they'll "fix" that upgrade, but if you want to buy, there's so many way less expensive places out there with customer service to boot! Their CS is clueless, and it's frustrating to read about. Yes... I still check in there from time to time for my dose of frustration I guess... lol. So I steer clear of any "free" offers from them, as I don't want to "upgrade" by mistake (which is what happens when you download a new game), and lose my oldies but goodies. So free from RA? They can keep it. Too many other good freebies out there. :)

I used to have to play games to avoid Real Arcade's game manager. There was a way to do it. Now I don't have to do any of that. I wonder which of my games are no longer available. I did find one when I got a new computer about 2 years ago. I contacted them and was simply told it was no longer available but was NOT offered any "compensation".

The original setup forced you to install into a folder at the root level. They changed it and told me that when I upgraded I was given a chance to change were the games were put. That was NOT true. They said there was no way to change it after the fact. When an uninstall/reinstall didn't solve the problem, I knew where to look - the registry. I was able to edit the registry to point to where I WANTED the games to be and it worked like a charm! I do not recommend this to anybody unless they are comfortable with the registry! It's dangerous!

I tried their beta testing setup but it fouled up my normal games so I scrapped that. Does it work now?

@ Wabbit:
Real Arcade changed, but it was a downgrade. Not only has the game manager been eliminated, but some of the games as well! I was dumbfounded to learn several of my purchased games were no longer available. Customer Service offered coupons for replacements if I signed up for Game Pass, but since all games are now $5.99 USD, and I paid $19.99 USD for the missing games, I felt somehow cheated. You may want to see if all of your purchased games are still available.

Thanks for reminding me about Real Arcade. I used to have a subscription, but scrapped it when they changed for the worse (I think they upped the price of the games, or changed the games manager. I also ended up forgetting about the games I'd bought. I went searching for my old account name and when I checked my purchases was surprised to find more games than I remembered (nearly twenty), so redownloaded them. I seem to remember offering to give this account away sometime ago, but the person who contacted me via PM never answered my reply, so it was never given away. I re purchased most of the games , but there are still a few that I ddn't so am glad I still retain it. Though I'll probably offer it up to someone sometime when I'm feeling generous as the ones I haven't re purchased are just the ones i've got for free anyway.

He said "Thanks", when I told him about your comment. I had already come to the same conclusion and he appreciated it. We're always turning the sound on and off (Mute and Mute Off) on this machine. I like the sound effects, he doesn't. I'm almost surprised we haven't worn out that button. LOL

Sue,

I got 2nd edition of Wheel of Fortune (for Win 95/98) for 25 cents. Except for the lack of a "window mode" option, it works fine under Vista. It requires the CD to play. I realized that I now have 3 of these "CD Required" Hasbro games. I'm going to play with uninstall/reinstall to put them all in the same folder to keep my installed games more organized. I ONLY have 410 games installed (total games 1050).

BTW - at the same garage sale, I bought "The Incredibles" for 10 cents.

This is a neat game but I barely got started with playing it.

Thanks for the heads up. The word "free" caught my eye. At least my change of email address worked. I wasn't getting my receipts and they didn't know what else to suggest but to change my address.

Now I need to give it a try (along with an old game on CD I got for 25 cents at a garage sale this morning).
