cimmind, thanks for the info and link to the older thread. 35 Mb is not an issue for me as I have 2G on my netbook and 4G on my desktop. Previously, I was using Media Player Classic and K-Lite. I have uninstalled codecs and am trying MPUI-hcd. So far I like it. I see from the other thread that Gom has issues playing DVDs on some systems, and the second link in hotdoge3's message above says its comes with DRM and has a "dubious EULA" whatever that means.

Hi Campy... I installed and then deleted MPUI-HCP. Why? Because for playing the same videos with same quality, MPUI-HCP was running two separate programs (one is MPlayer and other is a GUI for it) totalling to a memory use of 35MBs. Same job is done by my existing GOM Player and Media Player Classic- Home Cinema for 20Mbs memmory use. So i perceived no gain from shifting to MPUI-HCP.

But to each his own. My priority is a good player with a reasonably low memory use on my low-resources pc. Though Media Player Classic takes the least memory, i personally prefer GOM Player because of a few perks it offers.

I had a thread started on the topic of media players, some time back. You can find it here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4793

Agree, with the point about codec packages. Though i myself was using K-lite codec pack till ydy! And will install it again if any media file type stops playing in Gom player.

Thanks. Would you also recommend MPUI-hcp? Anybody else think another is better? If so, why?
