Agreed, watcher... a little information goes a looong.... looong.... way. Plus, it makes people feel so darned good! And hey. Aren't we all here to make each other feel a little better, if not good? ;)

Well, midori, for me the real issue is that GOTD just thinks it's better to tell us as little as possible. I think this is why some people, especially newbies, get the idea that they don't care. I've seen a lot of businesses do this. They treat EVERY issue like it's valuable propietary information, like it's a friggin state secret. And, most of the time, the things they're afraid to say are trivial things no one would care about if they knew. Look at GOTDs official structure. As far as I know, the project's originator is Russian, but whether he's still there or is an expatriate...? The project's registered to some place in the Carribbean, and it uses Pacific Time, probably because that's were the server (servers?) are. Let's just say I've got it right. Who cares! None of that changes my life in any way, shape, or form. Other than, if the latter's true, I can understand why the new software comes at 3 a.m. for me. So knowing makes me sympathetic. It doesn't hurt GOTD in my eyes at all.

Now, there may be moderators that are saying, "You've got it all wrong!" Yet, nobody goes out of there way to set anybody straight. WHY?!? None of this needs to be any deep, dark secret.

Again, the crux of almost all my complaints in this forum is my opinion that GOTD hurts itself by being so tight lipped. We could be more sympathetic, and especially, defend the project to newbies better if most of the information wasn't treated like the "name of the unspeakable demon god". Like we were going to be dragged to the underworld by demons if GOTD dared share these deep, dark secrets with us. Please! If the servers down, I know it's down whether you admit or not. Why not just tell me you're working on it? Wouldn't that be better? The developers see all these comments saying "I can't get through" and draw their own conclusions whether GOTD admits it or not. Surely, saying they're working on it would be better for their image!

True, they do give wrabbit a heads-up on the game so he can give a good review, and I think it took him awhile to get them to agree to do that. But we appreciate the passing along of info, and yeah, they should've blogged it for everyone. So agreed, watcher... they're spastic and sporadic. Sometimes I think wrabbit and the weekday team take this project MUCH more seriously than the GGAOTD team does. Hey, we KNOW they do! But I do appreciate this site in general... very much so.

You misunderstand me, bluhoteyes. All I have to do to find out there's no games is go to the game page. I don't even need Stephen to tell me, even though I would never think of questioning what he says. What I'm saying is for GOTD to let us know ahead of time using the project's blog, so that a lot of people don't go to the page just to find nothing. It makes GOTD look amateurish.

What you have to remember is that most people who come to GOTD do NOT join this forum and there's no way to tell how many actually even look here at all. The Project Team Blog is what they actually created to let everybody know these things, but they are sporadic about using it. That's my point in a nuthsell.

You may also want to consider that it's possible that GOTD only notified WR so he wouldn't have to waste time waiting to find out what game to review when one's not going to be coming. They didn't necessarily tell him so he could inform others.

Where are the alternative games for today located? When I try to log in to GGOTD, it keeps taking me to a list of the old games.

watcher13 all i can say is with it being whiterabbit giving us this info i think he is probably in communication with them and it is as good as them saying it. Personall wonder if they shouldn't give whiterabbit a section on the blogs to post :) You sure do a heck of a lot for this company and not sure you hear it enough , but thank WR for all you do here we appreciate you:)

I have to say I'm surprised and dissappointed they didn't post it on the blog. They seemed to be opening the lines of communications, but now, after taking "two steps forward" they've decided to take "one step back". As I've said before, they seem to be afraid of the negative response to posting bad news. But, in any situation like this, it's the actual problem that's going to get the bad reaction. I think that by just keeping quiet about it, you only make it worse. Understand, this has nothing to do with WR (thanks, btw). Like it or not, most of the people who visit GOTD are not members of this forum and the blog is the method designed to keep them informed.

I've just received notification that there will be no game giveaways again this weekend. The game giveaway team are stiving to secure more developers, so that we can have a new batch of games. BuBBy and myself have suggested several independent developers. If you know of any small developers,m please do post them here or PM me with the details. I'll make sure they are passed on to the games team so that they can make approaches to these developers.

I've posted a few alternative games for Saturday and will continue with some more on Sunday.

Have a great weekend.

Don't forget there's a Steam group meeting this weekend. I'll be setting up a Half Life 2 - Deathmatch game for around 11pm GMT on Saturday night. All are welcome. Check out our Steam groups thread elsewhere in these forums if you're interested. you can get a free copy of HL2 - Deathmatch if you have either an ATI or a NVidia graphics card installed. :)

regards
