You can get the first Mcgee game for free. I posted a link to it in one of the weekday posts. It can be found in the free games synopsis. :)

Very well done games, though as you said there's a rather dark side to them.

I'd better close. It's way pst my bedtime. It's now three minutes to six in the morning, lol. We have a sleep over in progress, so no doubt they will be up very soon, lol.

good night

Hi WR!
I promise to try out 2 levels on each week-end AND give feedback.
I think comments inspire us all — young or old (or in-between)!
My connection speed is fine for most things but is troublesome when playing online games, hence the quota I've set for myself. It's great your son is interested in innovative activities. IMO, Intelligence is the most valued personality trait.

I wonder if you've ever played E.A.'s ALICE for the PC. I had bought it when it came out almost a decade ago and I still think that the visuals and sounds are amazing. There are many instances of walktroughs posted on the 'Net by fans — not to mention derivative artwork and a rumored movie for next year. I can't find my favorite links for this game anymore, as there are too many to sift through. I hope this would provide a reasonable start:
http://www.americanmcgee.com/
— For sure, the subtext of this game IS scary!

Lol, that's also me. I was looking for a decent looking white rabbit, but not a fluffy bunny type when I came across the Mcgee image. I liked it so much I started using that; firstly as my Mercs battlefield icon avatar, then generally everywhere. I do have an animated avator that a friend made up for me that includes a white rabbit. It was taken from one of the Monty Python films. My kids didn't like it though as it had parts of a skeleton in the image and scared them, so I stopped using that one.

I was surprised that he'd uploaded so many. I think the earlier levels were a missing something, but he wasn't used to the editor. Some of the puzzles he's creating within each level are way above my head now, lol.

Please do leave comments on his levels as he looks out for them every day and gets excited when he sees new ones. I think it's the comments that inspire him somewhat.

Regards

Whiterabbit

Hi WR! I counted 63 levels by Whiterabbit01 (a few possibly under construction?) @ the Atmosphir platform . I haven't taken a close look yet, but "I thought I saw" a reference to DOOM! Good stuff!
I haven't put up any content there AS YET, due to "external factors" — but perhaps the situation is about to change: Local fellows have started a petition to bring TRUE broadband to my/our neck of the woods. The bunch is soliciting signatures on their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=16011607127
In the meantime, we do the sensible ting and continue to work with the available resources.
Before I forget, my Atmosphir nick is "High Flyer". Yeah, turns out you can add spaces when choosing your username. :-)
-------------
I've also seen a "whiterabbit" online profile which uses an image of American McGee's Chesire Cat for an Avatar.

Yes that's me, though my son has all but taken over my account. All the levels that have been uploaded are his. He's obsessed with the game at the moment; working on a series of related levels. You should see his latest creation it's looking awesome; the series of levels is going to be called Operation Big Blast. He showed me the ssecond in the series and I was 'amazed'.

My son wants to know what your Atmosphir name is. :)

Thanks for pointing out the 404. I thought I'd have problems with it because part of the address wouldn't underline when I activated the link. I've replaced the Caiman link with two reputable download links (Softonic and CNet)

regards

WR

p.s.

I use the following online:

Whiterabbit, Whitetrabbit01, Whiterabbit-UK, and Slickwhiterabbit oh yeah and Slickwhiterabbi on Windows live because they wont accept anymore letters than 15, lol. When I first started to leave evidence that I was online I used Whiterabbit_Moonrising (after two of my favorite songs from the 60's -White Rabbit sung by Grace Slick and Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival), but it was too long for some forums so shortened it to Whiterabbit. Though most popular forums tend to already have a whiterabbit.

The Caiman link brings up a 404 (for me, anyways). I Googled the term Halo Zero and downloaded the game from one of the trustworthy sites. Now, to install it and see if the game will run on my rig. The screenshots sure look the part.
--------
Thanks, WR!
BTW, do you go by the nickname Whiterabbit01 on Atmosphir? (I know, it's a long shot).

I don't know how I missed Halo Zero in the games synopsis. Wizzard has already posted it previously (week 13). I'm going to leave it up though because it's a great little game. Though so are the other two. :)

Here’s Tuesday’s games a little early. I’m going to be busy tomorrow, so may not have the time to post till very late, so thought I’d post them now.. The first one is an excellent 2D scrolling shooter based on the Halo series. Turn up the volume for some pretty loud sound effects (lol). They made me jump when I first booted up this game as I’d had the volume turned up high from a previous game that was particularly quiet. Then there’s two Japanese games a Dragonball game and another fighting game called Mind Arms. All three games have videos so you can check out whether you think you’re going to enjoy playing them. :)

Halo Zero  (20.7Mb)

Halo Zero is a 2D fan game, based on a story before Halo 1, with the Reach battle. The main object in single player mode is to shoot, shoot and get to the end of the level. But, the later of the 10 levels are a bit more complex than this. The game can also be played in multiplayer mode where you can host or join a game. Before you even start the game you can choose the english or french language, redefine your controls or even set your level of dificulty. At the beginning of each level you have a helper, a marine who is ready to help fight off the enemies. In between levels there are interesting animated cut scenes that follow the story. During game play, you will findup to nine different weapons, including a sniper rifle, rocket launcher, plasma gun and grenade. Halo Zero has great sound and graphics, even down to the lense flare and glare caused by looking towards the sun.

Controls:

Mouse = aim
Left/right arrow = walk
Down arrow = crouch
Down arrow + left/right arrow = crawl
space = Jump
Left mouse button = fire
Right mouse button = throw grenade
Key 0 on keypad = melee attack:
Shift = Reloadr/Action
Ctrl = exchange weapon
page down = swich weapon
G = switch to grenade
T = talk (multiplayer mode only)

If you’re a Halo fan, this is a must have. If not, then download it anyway because it is a fun shooter.

Dragon ball Arcade (20.6Mb)

I posted several Dragonball Mugen games several months ago. This one is relativelt simple in comparison, but is also a lot smaller in file size, so if you had problems downloading those games because of bandwith problems you’ll find this one may be a viable option

Dragon Ball Arcade - Young Songo during his journey at the magic cloud comes across the army of Pilaf's robots. Poor young hero has to soldier on against the evil forces, while Piccolo and others are sunbathing on holiday somewhere far far away. Grab plenty of possible bonuses, improve weaponry to gain as many points as possible.

Mind Arms  (45.2Mb)

A beautiful Japanese fighting game for 1 or 2 players.

Thankfully most of the menu items are in English. There are 3 different worlds and 5 different characters to choose from called Chain, Kanna, Chako, Takaya and Eigen. You will also find five difficulty settings. Some of the menus are in Japanese, but there’s enough English to be able to navigate through the menu levels.
The Z key replaces the usual enter key for selecting items etc.

Story Mode:

A game in sequential levels.
The next menu is in Japanese and I suppose you can choose one of the 4 worlds.
Then another menu appears and I suppose you can choose one of the 5 different characters to play with.

Free Battle

Versus:
- 1 player against a computer opponent
- 2 player game
- 2 players, both computer players (watch the game)

Training:
First choose one of the 5 players as player 1 (use arrow keys + Z)
Then choose an opponent
Then select one of the 3 worlds, or a random one.
Replay:

Controls:

Player 1:
Arrow keys = move and jump
Double click the left/right arrows to jump/roll forwards/backwards
Z, X, C (and sometimes V) = attack

Player 2:
I, J, K, L = move and jump
Double click the J / L keys to jump/roll forwards/backwards
A, S, D (and sometimes F) = attack

Common:
Space bar = pause
Esc = exit game (back to menu)
Enter = take a screenshot

new version 0.73 5-2009
There's a new character name Colne (Korune) who appears to be a clone of Chako, but really she's her own character who not only has her own move set, but also can send out "shadows" of the other characters to attack for her. She can also float. I don't think she's finished though.
I'm not sure if Sarah (Sera) was in the last version, but she's complete. She's half wolf, and loses about a pixel or so of health with every power-attack. (Down+Forward Attack for example).

Images:

Download Link:

The site is in Japanese, but it’s easy enough to find the download link, which is in the right hand colum just below where it says (in English) Mind Arms. Click on the link that says Ver 0.74 43.6Mb.

http://diced.jp/~tryef/

or

http://mindarms.en.softonic.com/

Additional Info

Apparently the game doesn’t run on all computers; it depends upon your configuration and the hardware you may have. Also for vista users you may get an error message popping up that says d3drm.dll missing" Thankfully the dll is available from laods of sites. I’ve used the following several times. You’ll need to place the dll into either of the following:

C:/windows/system32
or
C:/windows/sysWOW64/

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3drm
