That download sort is not for people like me. I often have the same type of file placed in a variety of folders. My husband (same ID on the PC) saves the same formats again to other places.

This type of sort just makes sense if you ALWAYS put certain file types in certain folders. That is definitely not my case! I just have it set to automatically save and always request where to put it. It just keeps getting changed. I have to reset it to MY folders and DH keeps resetting it to his. We've learned to look before he hit save! ;)

@BuBBy: I've changed the folder to my Desktop right after I discovered that my downloads goes in the Downloads folder. My point is, they shouldn't change settings without asking.

Robert, Cleo and Febe are two of the many I had to delete, I never got them to work properly. The same with SpeedDial.
To save my add-ons I have just downloaded:
Add-on Collector and Siphon - Sync Add-ons
Shall see what is better for me.

I don't bother with the flash/java blockers because the Adblock stops everything but what's supposed to be there. You can manually block anything else just by clicking on the tab just off the java/flash window. It might be risky, but I don't see the point in having two blockers.

Flashblock is a MUST for FF at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433

I have it "allowed" for a few sites (such as EMS Cross Stitch Board - for its FlashChat) but it's amazing how much it speeds up many sites AND removes the distractions of the animation when you're trying to focus elsewhere.

I don't have many, but Tab Mix Plus and Adblock Plus are two I immediately install. I am always amazed at the number of ads there are when I have to use Internet Explorer.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
I use the EasyPrivacy+Easylist subscription under Miscellaneous.

Addonlox,

I found CLEO to be a helpfull tool too ,in combination with
FEBE that is.
CLEO creates xpi.packages with all your favorite addons bundled in to a single Xpi package.
So you got less hassle when having to start from scratch once again...
(..or you can even share your addons this way)

GM
Opinions may vary..
But so far I think FF 3.5.1 is a major improvement. One thing's for sure,it 's much faster than any of the previous editions.
Still ,I wish they could speed up loading time even more when launching it.
And BuBBy is right, as usual, changing the download directory is as easy as one two three. So you can choose "desktop" too as a default.

Yes, Bently, there are heaps of tab-helpers I can't be without. When I install FF 3.5 I'll try your suggestion, maybe it is better to bundle some add-ons.
I had to start a "naked" Firefox lately due to some problems - that was a nightmare. Nothing was like it used to be and I hoped that not just my tab-helpers would be the trouble-makers. Those were the first add-ons I re-installed, lots of the other add-ons went down the gurgler. Well meanwhile I'm experimenting with new ones - LOL
The tab-helpers and the spell checker are the most useful add-ons for me and of course MakeLink, Lazarus, ImageToolbar, ResizeableTextarea, downloaders, dictionaries....

My 'new tab' button is on the left... Check out Tab Mix Plus, it'll let you change all kinds of stuff about your tabs. Including recently closed tabs when you accidentally close the wrong tab, duplicate tabs, lock tabs, and tons of other options I don't even know about.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122

It says it doesn't work with the newer versions but there's a pre-release that I've been using since 3.5 was released and it seems to work flawlessly. I can't use Firefox without this extension now, I'm constantly closing the wrong tab or going back to previously closed tabs.

GMMAN - Your big issue isn't too hard to fix. In Fx3.5 go to

Tools -> Options -> Main -> "Always ask me where to save files"

See? Happy again! :P

I'd suggest having a browse through the other options pages so when another crisis comes along - you are aware of where to go to fix it.

I'm guessing that (like myself) you gleam insight into latest program updates from FileHippo?

FileHippo is a great site to visit as a matter of routine. For me anyway, the programs and drivers chosen for inclusion at FileHippo are optimally selected. As a result of keeping tabs on the latest updates, I bet I update something once a week. The other good thing about FileHippo, is that all of their downloads run on dedicated windows hosting servers, making downloads consistently very fast.

Thinking about Windows 7, it reminded me that in Windows Vista if you got a Beta 2 or RC1 disc and key, you could use the Upgrade disc instead of buying the Full version disc. Maybe they'll do that with Win7 too.

<beginrant> This would be the first time for me, but Firefox 3.5 SUCKS. In my opinion some coordinator was drunk or something. The worst thing that bothered me was how it changed where my downloads go without even asking. Now by default it's in My Documents\Downloads. I'm not running Vista, and I like my downloads on my Desktop just fine, so why would I have to place them in a Downloads folder, and especially WITHOUT ASKING ME to change it?!!! And I can't blank the last tab by closing it. That annoys me because I like to have all my tabs closed sometimes but leave Firefox itself open. This just add an extra step for me. Also, it's starting to look more like IE, with its new tab button now at the right. All of the above is making me seriously consider downgrading to version 3.0. <endrant>
