I have revo uninstaller, which I am sure many of us do after some one kindly(can't remember WHO! sorry!)recommended it.
I went to my control panal after installing the Da Vinci game, and saw there was an, "Ask Toolbar" listed.
So I used Revo to uninstall it, and it found FOUR registry listings(!) (in bold, so safe to delete) ...I deleted them...
I don't know if maybe one or more are the same registry listings that Buzz mentioned ?
Hope this helps somewhat?

Oooh, okay...I'll revisit your instructions, Dragonlair! You know when I think I see "IE" anything, I back away slowly, lol.

And thanks again for the info on the default browser opening. Since it's just that, I'm fine with it. There was just so much other junk in the game file I wanted to make sure. :)

Thank you to Fire Bride for posting this free game!

Tailteann,

That was Windows Explorer, NOT Internet Explorer! It's a totally different thing. It's not a browser, it's just the way you can access the individual files on your computer.

Also, FreeGamePick games ALWAYS open your default browser (Firefox for me) when you terminate the game and open their home site. They do not hijack your home page, just open it to their page. It's totally benign. I use it as a way to do my next bit of "work" by lettitg IT open Firefox for me! :)))

Can someone please address the comments by BUZZ.

"1. askservice.exe remains in memory (must kill it)

2. "LEGACY_ASKSERVICE" "LEGACY_ASKUPGRADE" added to yer registry
and you must set permissions properly to delete them.

3. Toolbar and Ask search thing added to the "Add in" extension in firefox

The average user would not be able to get rid of this spyware easily."

Is this still the case with those of you who have used the shortcut method to avoid the spyware? Thanks so much, All.

Terri,

As far as I can tell, ALL FreeGamePick.com actual games are called Game.exe. That's why I gave the specific name in my original information. That's the file they hide.

Big Fish does a similar trick but their names vary. They still hide them. In those cases, you need to "real" game to bypass their manager on the way out of the game. You don't need it to go in, just out!

The more they try to hide things, the more you have to know to circumvent them and get what you want. Be like Wile E. Coyote or the Energizer Bunny - NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!

You can toggle hidden files on and off with Vista without going through Control Panel.

Just open Windows Explorer!

If you have the Tools menu option, click on it and select "Folder Options". then click on the middle tab (View) and set the dot near the bottom to show hidden and system files. Then apply it. You can turn it back off just as easy.

If you don't have the Tools option, click on Organize and there's a "Folder and Search Options" there that brings up the exact same window.

Easy to go on and off as often as you want without Control Panel.

I thought the game from Gamehouse was rather easy and childish until I ran out of hints and can't find the onion. Now I'm stuck.

I spoke too soon about the Da Vinci game. I created a shortcut for the DaVinci.exe file but it insists I download the Ask toolbar which I don't want to do.

Tailtean
1. Go to control panel

2. Click on (Appearance and Personalization)

3.Under Folder Options click on (Show hidden files and folders)

4.Click on (view tab),in the advanced settings window, under the (Files and Folders) section go to (Hidden files and folders)and click the button that says (show hidden files and folders). Click apply at bottom of window.

5. Go back to the game folder and you should see a file with a sqaure icon and a magnifying glass, that says (game).

6.Copy the file to your desktop, and rename it.

For me to get it to work I had to right click on it and run as administrator, and game should open.
Also you should go back to Folder Options and, click (Do not show hidden files and folders) the default, so you don’t accidentally delete a file in the future.

Hope this helps

Can someone help with instructions on how I can see the hidden files on Vista? I have the file location opened (I downloaded the game to my saved games file) and it's a bit confusing. The biggest files are for uninstall. I can't seem to find the .exe file.

There are also a bunch of shortcut files that I don't want and a toolbar file in the game...can or should I delete these at the file location?

Hi Terri218

I've WOT and it's showing Freegamepick.com has a very high Green safe rating on trustworthiness, vendor reliability, and privacy. Hmm...I'm not sure why the disparity.

Mostfun.com is also in the Green but only just barely on all three catagories according to WOT ratings.

Terri, WOT labels freegamepick as green. There are a couple red flags thrown up but it is about the toolbar and homepage change. Freegamepick can be trusted as long as opting out of those.

Is there a special place to get this download? I see it listed as the first game but it doesn't say it's a free full version game.

Thanks.

thanks Dragon lair and Sue!
I had this game before (I think it was gamehouse) but it is nice to have it without ads!
It's a good one!
(My husband is now playing return to ravenhearst with my hints; he is not really interested in the story but is loving the game!)
:)

Dragonlair, I followed your instructions, and was able to play; just played the first level, in fact...:). Oh, and you are right about their misspelling - "secrect"...heh heh.

I was right. It is exactly like the other games from that site.

Just go to the folder where you installed it. Be sure you can see the hidden files. Make a shortcut of the application "game" (or "game.exe" if you see the extensions). Rename the short cut to whatever you want and use THAT shortcut. It works like a charm.

One note - they can't spell! They spell "secret" as "secrect"! I corrected that for the folder name on install.
