@smtatertot13: Thank you for clearing that up some. I know that there is always some jerks. I just though that them leaving that there as a 'guide' for players isn't a good idea. I am really happy to hear that it isn't as it seems and actually after reading your reply am thinking about going and giving it a try (as soon as I can clear up my computer probs I am having) When I do I will be sure to use your link if it helps you out. Not sure if you are allowed, but if so drop the name of your alliance and I will look for you all when I get going.

I really hope that my post didnt/doesnt send anyone away from trying it. I hope that others also after reading your post see that my worries seem more unfounded now as well.

Best Regards,

like all games, there are jerks and friendlies, and such. I am part of a growing alliance (three grouped alliances so far, since you're only allowed 100 people per) and we are much more about helping out new people than attacking EVERYTHING around us. Again, like ALL games, there are positive folks and negative folks.

I haven't spent time with the Wiki, but I can only assume it was, unfortunately, written by those negative folks. Sad, but the internet is what it is. I have enjoyed my 3+ days immensely and will continues to do so. I hope that some people find it entertaining and, perhaps, even look me up (on server 24, character name Aeramis). Otherwise, please enjoy whatever games you find, as I am a serial new-gamer as well :D

(Also, for those "warned" by ibwebb's post, all newbies get 7 full days of protection, which means you CANNOT GET STOMPED by the "elders". Assuming you pop in for a bit each of your 7 nights, you have plenty of time to build up your city so it isn't worth the older users "pouncing" you. that's the WHOLE POINT of the newbie protection. it helps ALOT and makes the game worth playing by new folks. As with all things, ignore the jerks and you'll be fine :)

Strangely, I spent a lot of time looking into this very game last night. I don't remember where I saw the add but it was VERY interesting (and I agree WRabbit, it was enticing). Honestly, after what I had read at first I was thinking it sounded a lot like SAGA but with a LOT of improvements and a bit of third person RPG/RTS to it. Then when I was reading about it on the WIKI for it I went to read some of the guides. That was the end for me. The screen shots were not the greatest, but I have learned not to judge a game by that a long time ago. Yet, this (and several more I went on to look through) spoke about how the best thing for ANY veteran or higher level player to do was to punce on and destroy all the newbies to take their cities/farms. Especially if they have higher level farms. Then it went on to tell the readers of this (and other guides) that they should abandon them after taking them so that the newbies could try to rebuild them. It went on to say that it was the best way to support a higher level player and it would make the newbies complain and carry on about it so that the owners of the game would finally fix some problem they were having were it was impossible to support your needed armies with food.

That was a serious warning sign for me. Any game that lets that kind of talk/guide continue is just asking to be abandoned. I worked for many a years on old MUDs and that was one of the golden rules. Protect the newbies until they can play and protect themselves, but not with an unfair advantage. Though to be honest in that environment it was just an unwritten rule and people gave the newbies a hand or left them be until they were adjusted. Oh well, sorry to rant, but just letting smtaterto13 know that is the kind of thing that will keep players away or have them not coming back.

Examples are from: http://theevonywiki.com/index.php/Defy_the_patch_and_keep_your_army

"Hitting all the newbies in your area twice a day is a lot like having 30 cities instead of just 10. If they hide/move their resources, you know just who to cap and abandon. If they are not helping you support your army, end them."

"Also, the more players you force to quit or complain, the higher the odds Civony will make sustaining your army viable without razing people who haven't yet made the rank of General."

"Do not rant on the forums. It is pointless. Let the carebears complain for you. "
(From my readings 'carebears' is just another word for newbie)

Just doesn't sound inviting to me. But that is my call. Hopefully this is just a few jerks and there is a chance to learn before they burn you.

Best Regards,

Hi smtatertot13,

Sorry if I sounded uninterested. I just felt the advertisement gave a totally wrong impression of the game, plus having to purchase credits with real cash just so that I could communicate just didn't seem right to me (or have I misread paying for cash for some in game credits that you can earn to pay for the speak credits?)

I have so many games........I quoted somewhere else in the forums that if I played one game (not including freeware, abandonware or browser based games) every hour of the day without sleep, it would take me two months to work through all of my games and that's only those I've bought, so I'm sure you can appreciate if there appears to be problems I'm unlikely to persue it further. That's not to say that the game is rubbish. Far from it. Everyone has different ideas as to what's good and what's not. Under different circumstances i may ave loved the game. As it is I'm involve din playing several different games on a regular basis at the moment so wouldn't have time to devote to another one.

Regards

Hi smtatertot13

I actually registered for this game, but was not impressed when after posting a few short comments in the online global messaging system, I tried to post a few sentences (not more than arounr 20 words and was told i'd have to buy credits if I wanted to post anymore.

There are a few more things about the game I wasn't happy about, so decided to scrap it. That's not to say others may be interested.

I do feel the initial link to entice you to this game is rather misleading (maybe not enticing to other females, which you'll understand if and when you see an advertisment for Evony. I was expecting somthing on the lines of a third person adventure.

The actual idea is quite sound though.

regards

Thought some of you might enjoy Evony, a fully browser based game, much like "Civilization". You start with your own town - farm resources, build buildings, start an army, etc. As you do more, you grow large enough to form alliances and wage wars. This game continues on 24/7, so even if you log off, your resources still generate, and wars still rage on.

You can find the game, located here: http://www.evony.com

If you feel like being nice, please go there using my personal referral link:
[removed - please read forum rules]

I am not begging for you to click my referral link - either link is perfectly acceptable. Hope you enjoy!
