I would imagine that Freeware Home screens for viruses, though I can't find that statement on their front page. Maybe they don't and that's let to some bad ratings on trust sites. Some of the bad ratings could have also come from those who let adware slip by them on the install. It's easy to get spoiled on that since there are sites like tucows who even screen out adware. Which, you must admit, is an attractive feature.

I dont know about the site because I've not checked it out, but WOT gives it mixed reviews. It shows green ratings on all, but there are a few red flags thrown up.

Thanks, Dawn! I go to the same place straightaway as you do, and my AVG does not put out an alert, so I feel fine with it. And wow, who can you trust if you can't trust Woman's Day, lol. (although I'm sure they put disclaimers in teeny-tiny print just in case...) Shall check out the games and other offerings there. :)
And thanks for looking out for us, wrabbit. :)

I wonder why it does that. I've been there several times since finding it & it always takes me to the same page, but thanks for looking into it.

Hi Dawn, thanks for the links. We could use the first link (if it's safe) for the free games project. Knytt stories was posted in the forums last year by Lockett, though G@rgoyle hasn't finished raking the forums for all of the games that have been posted in the forums for the Games Synopsis.

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/3125#post-26488

I though I recognised Knytt when you posted the above. Not sure about the freewarehome link yet though. The first time I checked it I was taken to the site and checked out several games, all of which looked okay. The second time I clicked on the link you provided I was taken somewhere else, a German site, then the third time it was something else, so I tend to agree with RosnSC at the mpment. Will try again tomorrow.

Regards

I didn't get any such message. I've always followed links given in that magazine (they often print good ones) but even so, I scan any downloads before downloading. I haven't had any problems & all the links take you straight to the developers page.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I clicked onto http://freewarehome.com/ I got this message along with some other info - Website blocked by Trend Micro Internet Security Pro; This Web page has been identified as Dangerous. I did get a Report this web site for consideration button, which I clicked onto, so will see if TrendMicro will allow me to access that web site.

I found a site in my Women's Day magazine that has over 5,000 free softwares to choose from.

http://freewarehome.com/

Here are a few of the games they have that looked interesting:

1. Armand & The Foppish Hat: Armand and the Foppish Hat is a short adventure game in the style of the classic NES and SNES Zelda games. It's a silly story about a heroic, but slightly pompous, swashbuckler whose favorite hat was stolen from him on his way to a party. Since a gentleman obviously cannot be seen without his hat, Armand must track down the thief and bring him to justice.

http://jhanson.com/software/armand.html

2.Knytt Stories:In Knytt Stories, each level is its own little adventure, one level is included with the game, where you have to stop a machine that draws the life out of the planet. An official expansion pack is also featured at the website with four original levels.

http://nifflas.ni2.se/index.php?main=02Knytt_Stories

3. Galaxy: Galaxy is a game based on Masters Of Orion or Galactic Civilizations or any number of space exploration and colonization games. Each time the game starts the galaxy is randomly generated so no two games are the same. You command the Artean Empire and must expand the empire to control the galaxy. Your one obstacle is the Rho, an alien race of cold blooded killers.

http://24xliam.tripod.com/galaxyseries.html

There are many, many others to choose from in different categories.
