CRUD!

You know this sites DLs can be simple as pie then confusing as HELL!
They beat it into our heads to "ACTIVATE-FIRST , SETUP-SECOND"!
Then out of the blue one time it changes and they tell you to do it in reverse!
So you think -this must be a mistake and get really confused cuz they don't add an explaination for the change! =[BUBBY said:" the setup.exe removes the registration done by Activate.exe "!!!] -That's INSANE! I beleave it,..but what the hell is up w/ that?!

I guess that's the problem. I ALWAYS read the text; but this time when it was reversed,
I thought I'd be playing it safe by Activating Before AND After, just in case it was a mistake or typo or something [-'cuz it didn't make any sense!].
But when I tried to activate it after it wouldn't work, I tried closing the zip & reopen & try again,-but nothing. It Finnally worked when I tried it on the extracted file I made.-[too late?]
So I 'GUESS' that's where things got 'mucked-up' somewhere in the process. :[
My fault,..sometimes I think too much! ;)
Thanks for the help, its good to at least have an answer;...guess I'll have to delete that one.-[and take their word for it next time!] :)

Bill... you have no idea how to play the game? I'm surprised you didn't read the instructions ;)

Click on the '?' or "Help" icon in the bottom right hand corner - the game is explained after about 20 seconds of reading.

JEG88 - I've no idea what went wrong. The only thing I did differently to you was in WinRAR, instead of running the setup and activate within the archive - I extracted all of the files to a normal (empty) folder first - and ran the programs from there.

The game is "interesting" but the fact that the setup.exe removes the registration done by Activate.exe means that you probably weren't the only person to have problems getting it working.

I too got the same cool jagged edge window and two computers I installed it on. And if I did get the hour glass, it didn't last long. And I have no idea how to play the game (like most of the games oftered here). But when I have some time, I am sure I will learn. And I have no idea what went wrong with yours. Are you sure your machine is capable of running it? As that is usually the problem. :(

I'm having an odd problem w/ "The Alchemist":
I DL/saved it to my desktop,clicked-2x to open. It opened w/in my WINRAR as always.
Inside was a 'List' of files [instead of the usual 1-2=[act+setup].
>[did everyone get a list?]

>LIST=
data 1 cab = WINRAR archive
data 2 cab = WINRAR archive
engine32 cab = WINRAR archive
Activate.exe
data 1 hdr
layout bin
readme txt
Setup. bmp
setup. exe
setup. ibt = File ibt
setup. ini = Configuration Settings
setup. inx = File inx

>Anyway I just did as told + as always: 1] Activate 2] Setup
Everything seemed to go fine; activated and installed ok , no apparent problems.
-Untill I reached the end wher it says 'click Finnish to launch game'.
I did that and that's when it got strange.
The game 'LOGO' appeared, it looked like a jagged-edge cut-out. But it wasn't in a 'window', it was free-floating on the desktop. When I put the cursor over it changed to the timer symbol; .... and that was IT !! I waited & waited and nothing ever happened! I tried double-click, Enter, space; =Nothing! If I opened anything on top of it [like the web pg] it would 'merge' w/ the game graphic,-replacing its look -[messing it up]. Then I'd have to right-click on the game's button in the Task-bar to close it and a message would appear saying 'the app. wasn't responding,...-do I want to close, etc,..' -so I had to close it. I tried closing + opening several times,= same thing. I also tried uninstalling + reinstalling w/the games uninstall; then I tried
'Extracting' all the files to a folder on my desktop, -then using that 'Setup.exe', but got the same results. By that time I gave up & figured I should remove it & redownload, but w/ my 'dial-up' it took too long & I ran out of time! :(

So now I guess I got a 'dead-game' sitting on my PC ?
Does anyone know what went wrong & if it's still Fixable ???

Thanks for your time;
Please Help if you can, I'd appreciate any insights !!
