I'm a little late in this thread but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I use IDM to download the video then I use Video Download Wizard to convert it to whatever format I want. The music is perfect. Good luck.

Great. Glad we're able to help. You're smarter than you think you are. The not so smart folks either jump to a conclusion or give up. They don't look for solutions. The smart ones try and increase their knowlege (he said, pompously). :)

Yeah, as thename said, I wasn't quite sure what proces you were going through to get the audio. If you were just using recording software to record the audio that might explain it. Converters often have conversion routines that try and preserve as much quality as they can. Depends on the converter. It's hard to say exactly where you were losing quality without knowing your precise routine.

Still, again, the point I was trying to make is the more you go from one lossy format to another, the worse it gets. Also, you've got to take into account that a lot of people who post on youtube don't make much effort to make a quality upload. Some post over volumed, distorted audio. On the other hand, the one's who post the .mp4 not only are working with a much better format, but are usually video/audiophiles who take more care to make it quality before they upload.

IT WORKED. The youtube downloader downloaded it, and converted it to mp3 format with great quality still. I always wanted to try a Youtube Downloader, but I always thought I'd need the video on there also so never did it. Wish I tryed a lot sooner.

Thanks for your help. Watcher, you were right, it's just the bad .flv format. And thanks for making me think of a converter Thenameipicke. Just needed a downloader also, which I found.

edit: Wow, I found the edit button. :P Sorry for the triple post. Never will happen again.

I don't see an edit button, but on Download.com I found a Youtube downloader which can first, Download. And then after the download I can switch it to a lot of formats including MP3 which is what I needed. Just about to test it, sorry for double post, but no edits on the forums kinda make it hard to not do that sometimes.

I think I need to just switch the format to make it better quality. But that one software you showed me "thenameipicki" will only convert. I need to get a youtube downloader, but they're everywhere.

The MP3 thing didn't work well. It does the same as the rest. Some parts are decent quality, but most of it is just plain horrible. Watcher, I'm pretty sure you're right and using the software Thenameipicke gave me will probably work, and I'm about to check it out as soon as I get a youtube downloader, but then I won't need it if I get one that can directly switch it to MP3 format.

All I can say is thanks a lot and I'll let you know how it works out.

Pr3mium - You could try this - I have not tried it myself but it scans clean at VirusTotal ( http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/4c965e363508b6fcdfa7e8c455838b21bb6979149f34555a25031646e1a2d57f-1245197584 )

Pr3mium, I'm inclined not to post, but I really haven't played with Audacity much. I just tried an experiment or two on a couple of youtube downloads, but they didn't pan out. I'm hoping some one a lot more sophisticated can give you specific instructions, but, just in case they don't, a couple of thoughts:

I'm guessing part of the problem is that you may be expecting too much. As you may be aware, most youtube videos are in the flash .flv format. Not known for it's audio quality. I don't know if you know this, but if you see "high resolution version" (or is it high definition? I forget what youtube says) click on that and download it. That's an MP4, and not only the video, but the audio quality is much better. If you haven't heard, both flv and mp4 what are called lossy formats, meaning some quality is lost right from the get go, and if you drop them to an mp3, it gets even worse. An, as I say, with a flash you're usually starting with a mediocre copy of the audio in the first place.

If you just want to store them on your computer, you can try converting them to .wav files, which have no additional loss. But take up quite a bit more space. In any case, all I'm saying is you might have to experiment in trying to get audio from the best quality formats and dropping them to the best format you can get away with using. You might be trying to get "blood out of a stone", but I'm hoping someone else can give you better directions.

There are two solutions to this. First one will be the hardest, but 'may' give you the best results. Download the video, and grab XRECODE here: http://xrecode.com/ to convert from movie to sound.
The second way will be easier to setup, and will take about the same time, unless you are doing a lot of videos, in which, the first way will be faster. I would recommend using Audacity, but seeing as you don't like it, I can recommend this program:
Mp3DirectCut: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html
You can find many other recorders just by googling.

I'm new to these forums. It seems pretty hard to get to what you're looking for and there's no specific sections or anything to click on (that I could find???).

ON TOPIC: Anyway, I couldn't find anything about this on the web. I've had Audacity for a while now. I was wondering, how do you record, say, "music from youtube" and get it to play in the same quality as heard. Because it always gets messed up and I'm not good with these things. I know a lot about software, but I've checked a lot of softwares for this purpose, and Audacity has had the best quality. It still sounds sh*** though. Please help.
