I went ahead and installed all of their downloadable "New Games" and found nary a glitch. All innocence and roses, and the feeling of a very fun family-oriented site. I always have AVG running, and it'll flash a big warning if anything unrecognizable comes up, and no side-trips were involved. Over and out from sunny DC, Agent Midori. *&:-D

I just downloaded 2 games from Gametop. All went well, no problems at all. The only thing I noticed is that I had to 'untick' the change your homepage option on the second game only, not the first. I will keep the second game for awhile and uninstall the first one. I had graphic requirement issues (game did not run well) with the first game. Otherwise, no negative issues.

Yes I was talking about Gametop. sorry about the slip. I'm really tired after all the trips out despite the days off as well. I sometimes get gametop and gamehouse mixed up.

As I said above (or indicated) in my first post, I posted it in response to an email I received yesterday, but haven't had the chance to substanciate it. Maybe a good set of security software blocks it. I'm not sure what bigun uses. (It was bigun who set me the Email - I witheld the name until I could confirm that it was okay to post it), so maybe a few tweaks would cure the problem; also, it may only be applicable to specific games so I thought better to err on the safe side and give a warning. I'd hate for a community member who has children to download a game for their children to find pornography has been flashed in front of them. Hopefully, with more posts from you, the thing will be cleared up. Maybe we could post a list of the safe games.

I really don't want to be writing emails or checking until I return home as this laptop is new and only has basic security on it (A 60 day trial od Norton, which i don't usually use. I was too busy installing game son it before we left to remember to install our usual security.

I'm sure WR was talking about Gametop, and it looks like someone has changed the subject line for him. And thanks for any warnings like this, wrabbit... always good to practice caution. I did just download a game from Gametop as a check, and it went straight to the download, installed, then went back to the home page as usual... no funny business. But then who's to say if it's random or not. I rarely download from there now (have all the ones I want!) but will certainly be alert for any change.

Hi WR - forgive me but I'm confused .. are you talking about GameHOUSE or GameTOP? Your subject title referenced Gamehouse but your email seems to be about Gametop. I already didn't like Gametop because of the excessive use of ads they use so I have already stopped downloading games from them. So far I have had no issues with Gamehouse but definitely want to stay informed about them. Thanks in advance for a clarification. :-)

I've downloaded a few games from them and have not had that problem. I do get an adware site that is blocked by my Spyzapper which is listed as a nuisance. I always unclick the download toolbar option. I haven't gotten anything from them for a little while so if this is brand new, I can't speak to it. It might be like a pop-up and it's just the luck (or unluck) of the draw which one you get.

I received an Email from a fellow giveaway community member yesterday informing me about a new tactic that Gametop has started with their free games. Most of you are aware of Gametop and the excellent games you can download for free.

when I first discovered Gametop about three years ago I couldn't believe my luck. Most arcade games retailed at nearly $20 and there were few sites like it. As time has passed more of these sites have cropped up, but so too has the practice of browser hijacking and tool bar insertions increased. I'm sure the economic climate has something to do with it, and thankfully in most cases (exceptions include most games from sites like MyPlayCity, who force you to have the toolbar and home page hijack for the game to work).

Unfortunately Gametop now seem to be adding a new form of malware/adware that opens up a page to a site that offers pornographic images as well as games and other delights.

This is not acceptable, especially as I'm sure many of you who use Gametop have children. Such images are definitely not for children. I haven't actually checked out this claim yet, but I have seen an images sent to me by the giveaway user and was shocked at the content. I am waiting until I return home from my vacation to see if I get the same response from downloading one of their games.

From memory which is rather poor these days) the email I received actually said that when trying to download a game, the page was redirected to a new site. (this may possibly indicate a piggy back hijacker has invaded the site, so it may not actually be Gametops fault, so for the moment if you have children, or find such images abborant, please be wary and ensure any game you download doesn't do what I mention above. I will post the name of that site later when I check my emails again, and maybe even copy the part of the email that mentions the problem to ensure I've got the whole picture explained.

Until this problem has been investigated/clarified further and a possible solution found I will not be posting any links to gametop games.

I hope that you can find the time to Email Gametops owners to either query the practice (I don't want to say complain yet as I really need to see for myself whether this was an isolated incident; however I thought I should at least warn the community in advance of my own investigations because I wont be doing those until I return home. I only have a few days left before I return to the UK so don't want to spend that time on such tasks; I hope you understand. In the mean time if anyone else can confirm or negate what I've posted I wouldgrateful. :)

It may be the latest games as opposed to those the site has been offering for a long time. as I've found the older games do not have the toolbar and home page hijack boxes included. Only those that have been added in the last year seem to have those annoyances. Though of course all Gametop games will open up your browser when you close the game down, but this isn't home page hijacking as some games will if you don't uncheck the boxes during the installation wizard.

Regards to all from sunny Florida
