Sorry, Bubby, but, respectfully, you misunderstood the purpose of my post. I may have misunderstood hotdoge, but I thought he was trying to tell Carlo that he had to install 2.0. and no later package would work. I might be wrong, but I don't think that's true. I can at least tell you for certain that Vista comes with v2.0.50727 folders. Actually, I might have told Carlo wrong. My Vista shipped with 3.0, some may have 3.5.

That was the purpose of my post, pure and simple. What I said about bloat, etc., was just an aside to hotdoge. Actually Carlo was asking what his error message meant and how to solve it. That's a little different than what you said and could result in a different answer, depending on his situation. Do you even know what OS he has? I don't. Sorry, but there was no attempt to start a debate on the merits of .net here. Actually, I can't think of anything else that would go in this thread, unless Carlo has something to add.

Oh it's bloated... M$.. not backward compatible... wah wah...

carlo was simply asking how to install ".NET Framework: v2.0.50727"

There was no question of the merits of .NET or pitfalls of backward compatibility of 1.1 or 3.5. If you want to go back to debate the merits of the .NET Framework - take it to your previous topic (please).

To clarify, hd, as you know, the confusion with .net is that it's not backward compatible. MS has gotten around this by bundling newer versions in with older ones, so 3.5 installs 3.0 and 2.0 (and, as you point out, not 1 or 1.1). That's one of the reasons the installers are getting so huge. That also means one can become corrupt while the others work. Still, they put men on the moon, but they can't make this bacward compatible? Good old M$. "Let's make it so complicated, we're not even sure how it works."

Hi, Carlo. It depends on what version of Windows you're running. If you run Vista, you have .net framework through 3.5 included. If you're getting the error in Vista, it probably means some of your .net files have gotten damaged. You might want to run chkdsk and System File Checker to check for damage and try to repair it. If you need instructions on how to do either one, post and we'll try to help.

If you're not running Vista, you may indeed be lacking .net 2.0. You can download and install it, or try a newer version, which have the older ones bundled in. The bad news is that makes them more and more huge. The latest is .net 3.5, Service Pack 1 and it's a 235 mb download. Good luck, and shout if you need help. Sorry, if you end up not being able to make Art Studio work. Make sure you check the specifications on all GOTDs before you download, so you'll know if you need to download anything else. Obviously, that can save you a lot of hassle later.

Hi Carlo,

Welcome to the forums. For IT skills, most users locate answers (for a first attempt) using a search engine called Google.

To install that version of .NET Framework - you should download the program then follow the instructions to install the software.

http://tinyurl.com/o3kej8

Hopefully that helps. If you are still stuck trying to download or install - just come back and give us a yell.
