Hi SpodoCommodo,

The free game downloads on GameHouse are redirected so I doubt if you'll find a download manager that works. Even if you do... they package their free games in the form of a .rga file (amg-beachpartycraze.rga) so that we will 'need' their installer to unwrap and install the game. There is a way around it all and if you can find it then their back door is wide open for a download manager, but is it legal? Nope?
My two cents: if logging in and using their slow installer are GameHouse's conditions to get the free games then maybe we should just accept that.

Regards,
Lan

Thanks for the suggestions; I have them already but IDM is the latest I felt like giving a try to, and it always feels more satisfying to sort out a problem that, on the face of it, should be fairly simple to solve rather than give up on it altogether.

As with most people, I'm always on the look out for speeding up downloads and IDM has been unbelievably quick on some that I've used it for - so quick that, more than once, I thought that it had only downloaded a program stub of just a KB or two and was surprised to discover that it was the whole program of a few MB. That's why I'd like to persevere with it.

Thanks to the wiki's, I now have a download manager for Chrome! woohoo! I didn't think any of them would support Chrome yet. http://www.freedownloadmanager.org for those who are interested.

I use "Orbit Downloader" but it's really up to the user. All download managers have one main job (To download stuff) and they all do.

BTW Your request for this software will most likely not be seen here. You should request it in the suggestion forum.

Could it be because Gamehouse has their own downloader packaged into their games? I'm not sure about this one Spodo, maybe someone else knows better but that is my guess.

Internet Download Manager (IDM) - I've just started using this in the last week or so and it works well apart from trying to get the daily game from Gamehouse.

Firstly I'm using Firefox on XP (+SP3 though I'm pretty sure that's irrelevant). So I go to the Gamehouse home page, log in, click on today's free game and then on the start download link.

Without IDM the small file that one ends up with in the download folder has a long name combining the name of the game + Gamehouse bits e.g. today's is House-Installer_amg-beachpartycraze_gamehouse.exe, which the Gamehouse installer then processes without a problem.

But with IDM the file is stubbygh_en.exe which causes the installer to give an "Invalid games package" error.

I haven't changed any of the default IDM settings, so can anyone tell me what needs to be changed to get IDM to deal with these downloads properly (I haven't had any problems with any other sites so far)?

Two free alternatives that I personally use and consider superior to IDM are "Flashget Classic (1.73)" and "Orbit Downloader".

http://www.flashget.com/index_en.htm
http://orbitdownloader.com/

Orbit downloader is much newer product and is currently undergoing heavy development - But already it is making an impact as a popular choice over other download managers.

Also a good feature comparison between all of the main download managers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_download_managers

Also when using Firefox - a good addon that integrates with most download managers is FlashGot.

http://flashgot.net/

"Internet Download Manager" = $25-
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/idlmanager.html

Internet Download Manager is a tool to increase download speeds, resume and schedule downloads.Internet Download Manager can also dial your modem at the set time, download the files you want,[pics,video,music,prog.,docs.],then hang up or even shut down your computer when it is done. + more......

GAOTD:
I would really like it if you could get this [or something like it].
As far as I know you haven't had a Toolbar like this in a long time.[I missed the one in Dec.] So at least it would be something different. :)

I hope you will take it into consideration;
--THANKS for Everything!
