Thanks reverseOrder, the compatibility change works for XP too.

As for the game - well, it'll provide something to do when there's a few minutes to waste.

Sorry for the late reply but I found out how to fix the problem. I didn't actually test it on XP, only my old Windows 2000 machine.

The way to fix it is to right click on the "To Hell with Johnny.exe" and select "Properties". Now go to the compatibality tab and run this program in compatibality mode for Windows 95 and it should work.

There is also another problem when the arrow keys only work on the main menu but not when in-game. You can go to up to the "Full Screen" option and turn it on and off then it will work.

Thanks rO. :) To Hell with Johnny sounds intriguing. Reminds me of a few games I had years ago. One had you navigating from the engine rooms of a sinking ship. You had to get to the top deck to get to a lifeboat before the ship sank avoiding obstacles and solving puzzles along the way. Can't remember the name of the game thugh. I've not seen this genre for a long time so look forwards to playing it. Downloading the whole lot now. :)

Regards

Here are more games from the 72 Hour Game Development Competition. The first three are from summer 2004 are have a "Pirate" theme. The last two are from summer 2005 and have a "Horror" theme.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Summer 2004 (Pirates):
Adventures and Outlaws

Somewhere out in the deep blue sea Blackbeard reigns over a guild known only as "The Pirates' Guild." Men quake in their boots to hear the name of Blackbeard mentioned, but when they hear of The Pirates' Guild, they vanish in a trail of cowardliness.

As a new recruit to The Pirates' Guild it is your task to rise through the ranks of the guild, eventually gaining the respect of your fellow pirates and gaining prowess among the islands. From pillaging towns to finding buried treasure, your quest to the top of The Pirates' Guild will not be an easy one!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Avast!

Avast is a puzzle game where you try to rotate pipes to connect the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen. The only goal is to get a high score.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Euchmich Legacy

I think this was posted before but it was originally created for this competition. This is one of the best games created in the 72 hour gdc so download it if you missed getting it before.

Over eighty years ago...
... Euchmich the Loathsome looted and pillaged his way around the fifteen seas. He eventually ended up controlling the waters of the entire world, his reputation striking terror into the hearts of men, turning strong giants into whimpering bunnies just by the mention of his name.

Today...
... Euchmich has been dead for nearly thirty years. The world has vowed never to let another pirate attain such power, and huge fortresses have sprung up to do battle with pirate scum.

You inherit an old, run-down merchant brig after your father, and while moving into the captain's quarters, you discover your father's diary. Upon reading it you realize that you are Euchmich's grandchild. And this very brig was Euchmich's fabled ship, the Emilia.
You now have the possibility to live up to the family legacy.
Set course for your new destiny.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Summer 2005 (Horror):
Hath Sinned

Set in a dimly lit house, Hath Sinned is a story of betrayal and murder. Play through Hath Sinned and you will unravel a story of a man whose life is filled with the two vices and whose mystery shall go untold until the game is complete.
Hath Sinned isn't as much a game as it is a work of art. With a perfect setting and music to fit the theme, you may immerse yourself in the mind of this disturbed character.

Download (21.7MB):
http://gdguys.com/hathsinned.php

---------------------------------------------------------------------

To Hell With Johnny

This game is very unique in that it is a "falling down" game. The story is you're in this building and a hole opens up causing your girlfriend to fall in. As you chase after her the building is collapsing so you get crushed if you go over the top of the screen. You can't drop below the bottom of the screen or you fall too far and die. There are lots of traps and skeletons to avoid as you try to stay in the middle of the screen.
