Hi Vicky,
Yes, you have to download and install games on the day otherwise you will miss them. Hopefully next year, or maybe earlier, you'll get another oppertunity to get the game as games are repeated. For example Mystrious City Prague was given away originally back in November 08 ten repeated again only a few weeks ago.

Regards

Thank you, Dragonlair- a useful answer as it's applicable to some other programs I've installed too.

Crescent,

If there is no Add/Remove (or Program Updates in Vista), then you simply remove the folder where it was "installed". For programs that are simply expansions of zips, rars or whatever, there is no true "install", just a copy of the files. Therefore, it won't be in the list of programs to remove.

I've played a bit, and it seems so far like a fairly good game. The story is pathetically cliché, however, so and some items are placed in the most ridiculous of positions (I found a mattress in a pool).

Hi, Reuben... it's probably the fact that when you set up a place for it to unload (i.e., mine is: Program Files\GAOTD\whateverthegameis) the name of the last game you downloaded is still there. That's what happens to me. So you just change the name to today's game, and it'll go into that new folder. Hope I'm explaining this right. So it is downloading the right game but into the wrong folder, so change it from \Magic Bricks to \Cairo.

When I run the Setup.exe for this game, it tries to unpack Magic Bricks (yesterday's game giveaway). Is anyone else having this problem, or does anyone know how to fix it?

I was so tired when I posted this mornings mini review that I forgot to complete the sentence:

As for today’s giveaway…………….

I was of course reviewing the iWin demo which did have a manager. I wasn't sure whether todays giveaway would have one and totally forgot to check it out before I went back to bed.

Hi, Suki! You also! Hey, I'm gonna use your tip about the iWin Games Manager. Hate that thing. Lol. Just downloaded a bunch of free "ad" games, and even though I have shortcuts on my desktop, I have to find it again when the manager opens. I think I'll give it the can. *&:-D

Hi Whabbit

It's easy to get rid of the iWin manager and keep the game!

Here is my canned spam from iWin, rofl

In order to launch your games without using the iWin Games Manager you'll need to perform the following steps...

1. Go to your "Start" menu in the bottom left of your computer screen.

2. Click 'My Computer'

3. Under Hard Disk Drives click the 'Local Disk (C:)' icon

4. Click the 'Program Files' folder

5. Click the 'iWin.com' folder

6. Open the folder of the game(s) you wish to launch without using the iWin Games Manager.

7. Right click on the file that will state either the game title followed by '.exe' or GameLauncher.exe. Then scroll down and left click on 'Create Shortcut'

8. Drag the new shortcut icon to your desktop. You are free to rename the icon to the game title.

You should now be all set to launch your game without use of the iWin Games Manager!

Also, you can always go into C: or where you installed to and just drag out the game folder and then uninstall the manager...

Hi, Midori!

Hope you are all doing well!

Suki

P.S. I just installed the game to my desktop(that doesn't have iWins's manager on it)and it didn't install the manager or a toolbar...

Today’s game giveaway was only released 2 weeks ago, so we’re getting a new release as opposed to just a new game. It’s the sequel to a previous giveaway Mysterious city: Prague. Some may be concerned that the developer is iWin, who have been notorious for adding ad-ware to their games in the past; however that is only from their free games site and not their commercial arm of the company. I had to install the iWin games manager and also uncheck a box to stop the installation of the iWin toolbar, before I could check out the game play. The use of the games manager is a little disappointing, but worth if for the free game. As for today’s giveaway…………….

Edited and added later......

Today’s giveaway is a 54.9Mb download expanding to 60Mb once installed. As usual there are no shortcuts installed with this game and thankfully no iWin games manager. You can find a tutorial for creating shortcuts for both the Start menu and the desktop if you’re not sure how to create one in the games discussion forums. I posted a link to it in yesterdays ‘mini’ review.

I’m still recovering from my 5 day marathon download from last weekend so wasn’t really in the mood for spending too long writing reviews, that and other things meant it was too late to write a full review for Sundays giveaway. Hopefully I’ll be back on form next weekend. In the meantime I have attempted to collect together some worthwhile external reviews of the game (though there aren’t many yet due to the game being new)

Welcome to Mysterious City: Cairo, where you join your beloved professor in on an Egyptian quest to find three ancient artifacts. The pieces went missing and appear to have been stolen on their way to the museum in Alexandria. Hunt for hidden objects and uncover the clues the thieves left behind, piece together what happened, and return the lost treasure to Mysterious City: Cairo.

Conclusion

I only played the game for a short time but can say apart from the images this is much like its predecessor, Mysterious City: Prague. If you liked that you’ll like this one. The only notable difference between today’s offering and Prague is the addition of the relaxed mode, that although still timed, gives you a generous amount of time (100minute) to complete your levels.

The game is definitely worth keeping if you’re a collector of Hidden Object games, though in my opinion it’s not amongst the best I’ve seen, though it will still be a keeper for me. I’d give this game 7 out of 10 for family fun and game play.

=====================================================================

Other Games:

The only place I’ve seen free Hidden Object games is from the Gamehouse site but those games are ad supported. They put up a new game every day, so you probably wouldn’t have long to wait for a hidden objects game. The ad’s are pretty innocuous, varying from less than 20 to up to 30 seconds in length, and can occur every few levels to only once per session.:
