To approach it in another way...

-In case conflicting FF extensions are causing the trouble:

Try launching Firefox in its safe mode, with no extensions.
There is an option to do so in your start menu( or navigate to the Mozilla Firefox folder and select Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).
Alternative, you can do the same thing by clicking Start, selecting Run (or use the Start Search box in Windows Vista) and then entering the following:
firefox -safe-mode

-Otherwise:

Use a portable Firefox next to your existing FF (or on a portable drive).
Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition homepage
(How to.. )
...You can even install the FF portable in a folder on your desktop.

Hope Mango Princess somehow can read all the comments in this thread ...and will find a solution for her problem.

Happy Easter Everyone!

I run avast and it doesn't make a difference...
I only run it and have a router (no firewall except Windows)
I also made sure that Ccleaner left the cookies for this site alone.
It does say that
* NOTE: If accepting the site's cookies does not resolve the problem, it is probably a server configuration issue and not your computer., but as I know how to get around it, it isn't a problem.

Thanks though pavid!
:)

I would tell her to make sure that she empties her cache and deletes her temporary Internet files.

Merri: Once you do get into the forums make sure to tell CCleaner not to delete the Giveaway cookies. That might help your login problem since they then would not have to be downloaded each time.

In both cases, make sure your security software is not behind your troubles. Try disabling it, then quickly log in to Giveaway or Gmail to see if that might be the problem. Disconnect as quick as you can once you've tried logging in and re-enable your security software.

Also make sure you're not running 2 firewalls, 2 antivirus packages and/or 2 malware/adware packages at the same time. This can cause a number of problems.

This MIGHT help...I have noticed for EVER that when I go to sign in to GOTD forums..that it gives me a "redirect loop" error message.
It mentions about allowing cookies for this site(which is odd as I haven't got them blocked)
I regularly use CC cleaner so the cookies aren't corrupt I think :)
..lol!
It asks one to,"try again", but the same thing happens.
So what I do, is simply click the back button and every time, I am signed in!
Works for me, so hopefully Mango Princess could try this???

Other wise you will end up in the same cyberspace as good old graylox.
Hi, Mango Princess, long time ...it seems there is a Poltergeist in the GOTD system who banters with us and keeps the best names for himself. :)
Register under another name - we are missing you!

more than checking for disabled javascript - for login problems I'd check that cookies are allowed (and the existing cookies are invalid/corrupt).

I'd delete any existing cookies for this site - then make sure that they are permitted during login.

Hi Pavid,
I wish I could tell you more specs ,but I can't get in touch with her see.
My guess is she's running XP SP3.MP was using IE7- but could have downgraded to IE6.
She was using Firefox3.Her antivirus is NOD32 but I recall leftovers from Norton...and she has A2Antimalware installed.

Not much to go on,I know,so we should try to consider all possibilities...

As far Gmail is concerned I have been told "The tab tries to load, but never does.." so I ran a small test disabling/enabling javascript in FF3.

Just in case MP reads this ,I would also suggest uninstalling or at least disable A2Antimalware and maybe run a special uninstaller for Norton (available on the Symantec webpage) and reinstall Nod32.

We'd love to help but we would need more information such us the operating system and it's version, her computer specs, exactly what happens when she tries to sign in and so on. Post it up and we'll try to sort it out.

Mango Princess seems to be having problems signing in to her Gmail account with Firefox.
I would suggest her going to Tools - Options- Content and make sure JavaScript is enabled.(and restart FF)
Or/and maybe check her antivirus and other security software settings to allow Javascript.
That should do the trick.

As to her not being able to log in to the GOTD forum, maybe others might have an idea on how to solve this.

Any help is deeply appreciated.
Thanks.
