Hey Campy, I'd always meant to include this adventure game in the free games project. I hope you don't mind me changing the title. :)

Wow, I didn't realise you'd more or less finished searching through the forums for games. I really only thought there was a few hundred. That's amazing really. BTW I'd forgotten you'd said you were going to do the browser games as well. I wasn't trying to imply that you should do it, more like suggesting someone else helps as what you're doing is time consuming enough. :) Thanks all the same. When you said a computer fire - did it literally burst into flames? I have loads of cooling fans on my computers. The study doesn't need any central heating because the room is always really hot because of the computers being on for most of the day. It's definitely the warmest room in the house.

THANKS g@rgoyle, for all of YOUR hard work. So nice to know everyone else's hard work is being archived for kingdom come. A noble venture, and much appreciated! *&:-)

BTW, is clicking on your name the only way to find this treasure? I happened upon it by mistake one day! ...or I guess I was checking you out... :D

HiYa Mr Whabbit,

The browser game synopsis is advancing again (I had to start from scratch after a computer fire). It's slow going coz I'm having too much fun playing ;-P but I'm hoping to have it up before the end of the month and then I'll start adding older posts to the 'weekday' synopsis.

Hope you've recovered from your download marathon! There oughta be a law against 5-day notices :-{

Regards,
Lan

BTW the "Weekday Games Synopsis" has more than 500 games ;-D

Hey midori, you wern't stepping on my toes. This IS meant to be a gaming thread. Even if games have been metioned previously, it's always good to remind the community of whats available. Also it really doesn't matter who mentions what games are available. I'm just lucky enough to have lots of spare time to search for these games. Once you know where to look it's easy enough to find loads of games. There's got to be a couple of hundred games in the games synopsis now as well as loads that haven't been added yet, but that can be found within the games forums.

I wish I had time to help with the synopsis. G@rgoyle is doing a brilliant job with it. It would be brillinat if someone else could do a synopsis for the browser games as there are hundreds of those as well.

Regards

Whiterabbit.

I thought of you while browsing the site Wrabbit... should've known you were quite familiar. And excuse the step on the bunny toes for mentioning the two you had already posted about! Just noticed that those were the three "free" ones they had. But the "we hate DRM schemes" really stood out, but doubt if the non-free sites would even consider it.

Thanks for the info Campy; I've been a regular at GOG since I posted Lure of the Temptress and Beneath a Steel Sky in the free games project over the Christmas period; though I haven't visited for a couple of weeks.

I've bought several games from them because of the DRM free promise. The prices are just about right and some of the games are fantastic. Darkstar One iis still a brilliant 3D space shooter even by todays standards. To be honest I can't think of one game that beats it, then Flatout is a great stock car racer with destructible cars and many of the objects in the environment, so if you like smashing things up to relive the daily stresses of life instead of going to one of those places where you can throw plates at a wall you can spash up cars, lol.

Midori...too too true!!
I never go near Iwin games any more for that reason.
I was so annoyed with them when I had purchased games legitimately and found that they still were "attached" to the stupid player (or what ever it is called)
I am just downloading Teen agent..it looks cute, thanks Campy!

I noticed that, lox! Clever indeed! And what a selling point that would be for all the sites that actually "rent" your games to you. Their sales would skyrocket! I'd venture that most sites spend scads wasted money keeping track of their precious possessions, when if they would just give the buyer what they paid for, life would be simpler for all, and more profitable for them. Gee. Think there's a CEO of a site out there that realizes that besides GOG? *$:-|

Another Brownie point for GOG is: quotation from their "About"

"You buy it, you keep it.
Don't let your DRMs turn into nightmares (clever, no?). You won't find any intrusive copy protection in our games; we hate draconian DRM schemes just as much as you do, so at GOG.com you don't just buy the game, you actually own it. Once you download a game, you can install it on any PC and re-download it whenever you want, as many times as you need, and you can play it without an internet connection."

That is reason enough for me to download games from GOG.

Thanks, ornithos and Campy... I have no problem signing up with a site that looks legit, so did so and have the games. And yep, they're oldies, so figured they were free anyway. 'Beneath a Steel Sky' seemed to conjure up lots of fond playing memories for some of the posters there, so I do appreciate the site point-out.

GOG shouldn't really be considered an abandonware site. Yes they do provide some abandonware for free as ornithos mentions. However, their primary focus is to do deals with publishers to sell older games that have not been abandoned for a relatively low price (usually $5.99 or $9.99) and make sure they can run in Vista and XP. Yes some of these games can be found on abandonware some abandonware sites or through other means. But some are very hard to find and this is legal.

ornithos is correct that you have to sign up as effectively you purchase these games for free (no credit card or other means of payment required for the free games) and get a receipt. They keep a data base of all games you have purchased (including free ones) so you can download again in the future if needed. I have never experienced any problem with being signed up, but of course some may not want to do that so thanks for pointing it out ornithos.

Hi Midori,

Just a quick message to let you know that Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress are freely available from most Abondonware sites. Please note that GoG requires you to sign up before you're alllowed to D/L these games; some people may not wish to do this. Many Abondonware sites don't require registration/sign up at all, but instead allow you to D/L abandoned games directly.
They are first rate games though, both from the same developer, Revolution Software.

Good luck with your downloads.

Thanks, Campy... wow, what a plot! Lol. But of course I'll give it a go. It runs under DOS, but sets itself up. There's two other free ones on there if you look under "price" and click "free"... Beneath a Steel Sky, and Lure of the Temptress. Site looks interesting... will have to check it out further. :)

Good Old Games just put up their 100th game and they are giving it away for free. The game is a point and click adventure named Teenagent. Here is their description

"In the middle of a beautiful summer day a teenager is captured by two men in dark glasses and long coats. This is going to be a very interesting day!

It's been six months since the super secret secret service agency - RGB - started investigating the mystery of the gold missing from the main European bank, to no avail. They are so desperate that they went to a fortune teller for advice and she told them to make you into an agent.

You are Mark Hopper, the average teenager, who becomes an RGB agent and the agency's salvation.
Your rewards will be girls, because every girl loves the secret agent, don't they?"

The game is Vista & XP compatible and is in English. You can obtain it here: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/teenagent
