Oh, watcher, he just wanted to use the word "fetish" so lighten up. LOL J/K
His post is gone already anyway.

Thanks Robert, watcher and hotdog for the well wishes. Had one of my bad migraines last night because of all the pressures, I guess. Some days I want to go and then some days I don't. But I know I have/need to go.

Thanks for all the links. Yea, I have RSS feeds for Gizmo so I got a bunch of those already. That's how I got what I got. I was just curious if anyone had any experiences with any of the virus scans. From what I have skimmed over so far, I will probably use Avast. I am going to go over the links again but, for right now, it looks like my best bet.

Thank you, jakydada. I assume you've been waiting your whole life just to make that post.

Oh, by the way, delenn, looking back at my first sentence I realize I phrased it kind of badly. I understand how serious it is. Just trying to send some positive thoughts and hopes to your mom and you.

Hey delenn, hope things turn out alright. We had a few threads in the past with quite a few links to portables and standalones. Some contained reviews. I like Gizmo's freeware site and it does reviews and it's comments act like an open forum which the moderators use to keep updating the reviews. So, if you haven't seen them, here goes:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/guide-to-portable-applications.htm
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/1185#post-6747
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2133#post-13154
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4597

And two from that font of all wisdom, Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_portable_software
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_portable_computer_games

Those dozens of links and hundreds of programs. And if that doesn't satisfy your appetite, I'm sure I have more. Standalones are kind of a fetish of mine. No issues with software conflicts or dirty installs/uninstalls.

Robert,

Nice find, thanks. I had pendriveapps in my BM's. Since I have so many, it got over looked.

Got the seed :) and will plant it as soon as I get through making dinner and the fun chore of cleaning up. I got so many irons in the fire right now I need an assistant. Wish Spring was in the air here. Our real planting season starts the end of May and we still run the risk of a freeze then..sometimes.

Hi delenn13,
Sorry to hear about your mother's illness.
I will be doing some research on the matter,in the meanwhile ,you might wanna check this link too.
Most antivirus can be made portable,but....they won't give you real time protection ,as most of them run as services. You will have to run them manually to check for viruses.
PS Please check your admiral seeds too,Spring is in the air.LOL.

My mother has bone cancer and was given 3 yrs. Well, it is now 1 1/2 yrs. and it's beginning to get worse so we are planning to take a trip there. It is NOT going to be a holiday, trust me. She called me yesterday all upset and wanted to know why I took her computer and she wanted it back. Mind you, we haven't even gotten there yet and won't be leaving for another week. So this is what I am going to have to deal with. Anyway, I digress.

I have gotten 2 8 gig USB Drives and am planning to take her and my aunt some games.(Thanks you know who you are.) I have also set up Firefox Portable with all my settings, profiles, etc. I was really proud of myself when I figured out how to do that. And I have a few other Portable programs from various sites so I can run most of my things from the USB drives. I found a bunch on PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB drives which were quite nice. I even got my Evernote(with all my files) set up portable.

But the only virus scan I can find is ClamWin Portable which I am not familiar with at all. Has anyone used this before or had any experience with it? Or any other suggestions? I need something that is light on the resources but it has to work. Until I can get their computers cleaned up..which I am sure are a mess, I need protection. It doesn't have real time protection but I can run scans.

And if you got any suggestions as to what is good portable, I would be grateful. I know about Gimp and Open Office. But for the time I will be there I won't be using anything like that.

TIA

Edit: Forgot to say.. I found Revo and Everything portable. I couldn't work without them.
