...maybe I'm just getting old

and the ramble continues...

...trouble is they all work hand in hand.

Now if a big name game developer wrote a game specifically for Linux let's say, the tables could turn in an instant these days - so much is being ported to linux now.

Ahh... I remember... Once upon a time... A company called Microsoft...

I'm starting to think it won't be too long before Microsoft needs help (read between the lines and make up you're own version of the downfall)...

Guess there could be Microsoft2 - The Return of the Golden Gates...

FWIW - I've tried Win7 and have already decided to stick with XP for as long as possible - I'm fed up with the "let's give it a new wrapper" idea... Same(more) BS -> New Look... Oh, and XP SP3 is bolloc...balderdash too...

thanks, lox (I'll use that moniker from now on, since my head is spinning with lox confusion :) ). Big help, since Quicktime has a notorius reputation for being about as dirty and hook filled as AOL has been.

A little off topic, however watcher gave the keyword "...and I suspect quicktime...":
You may avoid Quicktime when installing QuickTime Alternative - download.

"It is highly recommended to uninstall all existing QuickTime related software, like QuickTime Player, before installing. This way your system stays clean and potential problems will be avoided." <http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Players/QuickTime-Alternative.shtml>

There is a Real Alternative too.

The goofy part, pr3mium, is that in Vista they completely integrated IE7 to avoid you uninstalling. Fine. But they removed an earlier feature that allows you to do a repair reinstall. If your IE7 breaks, mine's got a minor problem now, you can't fix it without either finding and replacing the bad module(s) in Windows - which can be a cumbersome process because of security permissions in Vista - or reinstalling Windows. I tried going for IE8, but the problem I'm having also prevents installing that. I took out Firefox, because of a problem I was having this might have caused (it was either that or quicktime, and I suspect quicktime, though they're both somewhat "dirty" installs). But I can always re-add it.

I think that really illustrates what's wrong with MS and Apple that drives people to Linux. The "we know better what you need than you could possibly know" arrogant attitude. Maybe this development and the stripping down of Windows 7 - making it leaner and (hopefully) meaner - is a step in the right direction. Which could be the case now that "Darth Bill" has retired.

I just stick with IE. Simple, and easy. And since it windows XP and Vista start with IE, I've just been used to it my whole life. I've tryed Firefox, and while it has some cool plug-ins that I may use once in a while, IE is my favorite choice.

But this won't even change much around. If someone decides they like a different browser, they'll just install it themselves. It's not like it costs money or takes a lot of effort.

They should do that, now, and not just for Windows 7. They could just offer a menu of browser options, and let you choose the one you want to use.
