Sorry Suki, I missed your post from last week. I usually always answer you when i see them. No you don't have to buy World of Goo via steam. I have a copy I got directly from the developer (2D-Boy - it's a free standing version, but i think they were only available to the Beta testers. you may have to activate via the internet wherever you gt it from now as the developr got a little upset when it seemed like a large percentage of people were getting it for free.

It's sold over at fileplanet and it just so happens that Steam seem to have taken it on board as well, plus i'm sure there are loads more outlets taking it on board as it is one of the best arcade games to have come out of the indie scene lately (apart from crayon physics and of course Obulis (which i've still not cracked - I've been stuck early in the game for ages. i just can't get past a certain level lol. If that happens i tend to go away for a while and try again.

later

I'd agree with most of what's been said, including the sharks.

But 1) What lizard is this?
2) What accent?

AND be prepared to pay a slightly higher price, what with importing costs *a million miles from anywhere*

Hi Nola, lol..... I really have so many games now it wouldn't matter. Besides I tend to buy the latest games on pre-order, but I could easily wait till the prices of newer games come down then buy them (if I moved to NZ). It's all up in the air until I get my compensation. We've made the decision that if we can't sort it before the kids start their examinaton classes (around aged 13 onwards it wouln't be fair to take them away as I think the different systems would mess them up a little. Still, if we really want it we'll do it. I'm sure the climes will be much better for my health than cold and damp NW England. We've been talking about it for a couple of years now, but that's bout as far as we've got yet as we've had a lot on our plate with the impending court date (fighting for a decent claim).

Actually, I started applying for teaching jobs in NZ; just before our first was born in 1999, but family ties stopped us then.

Stephen, You would have to say goodbye to your wonderful game sites in the UK - postage from there to here is horrendous. On the other hand, with the recession, our house market is very depressed at the moment, so you would be able to buy a nice property at a cheaper price. And, all that Victa said is true of New Zealand, but I've never seen or even heard of any dangerous lizard. We do have the odd shark though!

So, for shopping I'd stay in the UK, for family living, good climate depending on where you decide to live in NZ and lots of sea and surf, I'd choose New Zealand. Besides, I'm here - I'll take the place of your family in New Zealand, lol.

My matriarchal side of the family all live in Melbourne and the outlaying areas. My cousin lives in Cockatoo, which thankfully wasn't as badly affected as some of the other areas, though my cousin did spend some time with my Aunt and Uncle who live in Endeavour Hills. I was worried for them during the worst of the fires. It's going to be a hard one for us to decide. Australia or New Zealand. I really fancy New Zealand for some of the reasons mentioned above by Victa plus the amazing scenery and transition from Moderate to tropical climate; though at least if I emigrate to Aussie land I'll have a family nearby.

Whiterabbit-uk -"We've been considering emigrating to New Zealand (in preference to Australia),"

Have you not heard about the bush fires in Victoria which killed 189 people and wiped out whole towns. Or the floods in North Queensland that have had many towns isolated now for almost two months, or Cyclone Hamish, which luckily only skirted down the Queensland coastline for a week and has not (so far) crossed the coastline. Or the record temperatures of 46 degrees Celsius (that's 115 Fahrenheit) for Adelaide and Melbourne, or Cyclone Larry of 2006 or...Climate wise I prefer NZ, but I'm not able to move there unfortunately.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the sea. In NZ's case it's true. Lovely green grass just like many parts of the UK, and glorious snow covered mountains and no poisonous snakes and only one type of poisonous spider - they do have a dangerous lizard I've heard. Oh, and they don't have a fly problem except for the remote South Island's west coast which has swarms of biting sand flies. Nor do they have mosquitoes that carry dengue fever or malaria or Ross River virus. And they don't have cane toads that are toxic to dogs/cats, or crazy kangaroos that leap through house windows or jump in front of your car. Or eucalyptus trees that drop branches spearing you in the back, or sharks or....maybe I should find a safe bunker to hole up in.I'm scaring myself.

Same here. We could get US $2 for each £1 last summer, now it's gone down to 1.4. £1 was worth 1.67 Euros a few years ago when I last travelled to a European country now they are almost at parity, which makes going to most European countries for a vacation very expensive.

That's crazy. We've been considering emigrating to New Zealand (in preference to Australia), but with those sorts of prices I'd assume everything is expensive? I supposed we'd get a good return on the exchange rate after selling our house though. At the moment it's worth about £250 000. so that would be NZ$700 000 which could buy us a decent house and have lots of loot left over. :) Added to the compensation I'm expecting t get. Hey, it sounds like a good proposition at the moment.

Where do you live Chronopie? Are games really that expensive where you live? If that's the case why not buy from UK sellers Game or go to Amazon. I managed to get a copy of Linerider 2 unbound which isn't officially available in the UK yet for less than the retail price and that included postage and packaging. :)

The games are dirt cheap from Game UK Amazon and EBay. Game UK have brilliant bundle offers and postage around the world would probably still mean you're getting a bargain.

If I order a game in the morning I can sometimes receive it the following day, or at the latest the day after. And if I pre-order a game I always get it 1 or 2 days before it's officially released. Though I did try and pre order a couple of games for online friends in the US which ended up never being sent, so i had to buy the games for myself then post them.

For this weekend only (March 7th and 8th) you can get World of Goo for 75% off if you have a Steam account. That's less than $5. You can get Steam for free from the following address:

Get a Steam account for free HERE

In my opinion world of goo is one of the best arcade games to come out of the indie scene this decade. It's game play is innovative, interesting and theres lots of variety. It's amazing what you can do with a load of goo balls, lol.

You can get a very vague idea as to what to expect by downloading the freeware Tower of Goo that's available elsewhere in these forums. Though Tower of Goo does not do justice to the full version game. The tower is actually a mini game thats developed as you work through the World of Goo levels. The more Goo balls you can save each level, the higher your Tower of Goo can be built. Everyones height is sent to the 2D-Boys servers and you can see other people from around the worlds attempts. (Though you can also block this via your firewall if you aren't happy allowing outward bound info being sent to an offsite server) It's quite a fun 'aside' from the main game.

Download Tower of Goo for free HERE
