FF forever. I have it on both of my Windows computers and my Linux box. (Plus the Linux on my USB flash drive, though it doesn't want to work. I use SeaMonkey there instead.) I can't stand IE7 and its interface. Buttons are too small, no menu unless you specify. Firefox is still better, just because it seems more friendly from an open-source community, rather than from the evil Micro$oft.

Well until about 3 days ago I was using IE since it's inception. I d/l'd IE 8 and it will not let me go to some websites. they knew about it and did nothing to fix that, so now I have to use firefox, which I don't like. I can access GAOTD, but can't d/l from it, IE stops working. I'm pretty upset. Today I may go back to IE 7.

It's a mystery to my why more people still use Internet Explorer than Firefox or any other competing browser. But I don't get the success of Micesoft Office as Open Office is free may be some like to pay.

Maybe for Windows 7. As with anything, it is probably a matter of priorities (and popularity/demand).

Michelle

Other than to go to your start button and then to go to IE 64bit and create a short cut for it on your desktop. I don't know. You can also do that and then drop it in your taskbar for 1 click launching.

I wanted to use 64bit IE too when I first installed my 64bit system, but there are some programs like java or adobe's one that doesn't yet support it. I think its java, can't rem. This was about a year ago, so the problem might be resolved.
Hope this helps.

@ds5929 - Full Intellimouse support in Firefox.

While I don't use a Microsoft mouse any more (prefer logitech) I remember that problems could sometimes be solved by installing the latest version of the Microsoft mouse software.

Take a look at IntelliPoint 6.3 Mouse Software for Windows

After some more reading - the above may not fix your problem - Apparently Microsoft was supplied with the required software to have their mouse work with firefox - and mysteriously it "broke" before the mouse was shipped. So one claim I read, Microsoft intentionally broke Firefox support. (Of course that could never happen, right?)

Have a look at the comments after this article - there are other plugins being written to support the latest intellimouse with Firefox. article: CNet

I've not had any problems with IE Tab, though I rarely use it.. mostly for yahoo music, which is now gone/changed. I also use IE View and 'open this tab in Internet Explorer'. But it's only about 1% of my time online that I need to use IE. I still use it for manual windows updates. I used to use Netscape Navigator ages ago! I used to hate tabbed browsing too, but I can't live without it now! Oh and ad-block plus... IE makes you realise how noisy the internet is!

IE6. I've tried IE7 twice, and can't stand the layout of it- uninstalled it within a day both times. I know it's a minority opinion, but I despise tabbed browsers. Might consider FF or an alternative, but for whatever reason, the side buttons on my 5-button Intellimouse don't work on FF, and for me, that's a deal breaker. If there's a way to make 'em work, I'd love to know about it. And yes, I know IE6 is a security nightmare, but it just does what I want to do better for me. I've actually come to look on the periodic necessary re-install of Windows as a mixed bag, as if forces me to winnow down the inatalled programs to what I'm actually using and not having everything I've ever installed on board. (for a software collector like me, that's saying something)
So, any software out there that will give me full mousing on FF?

We used Maxthon for a while but constantly had problems with pages that wouldn't load so I'd have to use IE for those but then I gad a lot of issues with IE too. Then tried Firefox and everything seemed to work fine so I've used it ever since which is about 9 months now. There are tons of add-ons for it but I only use a few.....I love Speed Dial.

I use IE for cross-browser web development testing and for some of the MS web services that require it. I have just about every major browser installed so IE has never really had any leverage. I use K-meleon, an open-source browser based on the Gecko engine(same engine that powers Firefox), as my primary browser. It provides a great mix of features, performance, stability, flexibility and standards compliance that I have yet to find in another browser.

I strictly use Firefox, and then have the add on called IE View. If I really need to use IE I just right click the page, box pops up with option to view in IE. The ONLY time I use IE is when I needed to go to certain sites like McAfee .. that only seems to work in IE.. but lately that's been opening in Firefox too.

Used IE until about a yr ago when it seemed to freeze when displaying some images (was having problems with anti-malware software conflicts at the time) which didn't occur with Firefox, but I couldn't download any add-ons for that then, so it still a toss-up between the two. With the release of FF3, installing add-ons was no longer a problem and I've been using it ever since with no intention of going back to IE. Hate it when some programs insist on having IE display help text (for example) rather than what is configured as the default browser.

NOLAfromNZ - just from searching, Evernote Web Clipper (http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/Evernote-Web-Clipper.shtml) was last updated on Feb 26th 2009 (ooh, that's today here in UK) and supports Firefox 1.4.0 – 3.1b2.

I prefer to just launch IE than use IE Tab - there are many issues/bugs with this addon - and these issues overlap with many other tools and addons in Firefox. The lead developer has also stopped work on this (he is only running Linux now). Just headaches I can do without - for me, the best solution is just to avoid IE only sites whenever possible.

Because I haven't downloaded Firefox yet. I don't know I think both browsers could be better. I have 4 gigs of ram on my computer and I still get ie not responding and I have had the same problem with Firefox. Maybe I should use the 64-bit ie since this computer is 64-bit. I wonder if it will make a difference.

I use a Firefox add-on called IE Tab, which allows me to open a tab using IE's rendering engine. So if a page is having trouble showing up in Firefox or is IE specific (activeX) I can switch to display it with IE's rendering engine in the same tab.

Should this topic be "Way are you using Internet Explorer" or "Why are you using Internet Explorer"?

Until all the firefox extensions that I rely upon become available for Internet Explorer - I have no ability, need or desire to change from Firefox.

WindowsUpdate used to be the only reason to use Internet Explorer, but even that is not necessary now.

I only use Internet Explorer for Big Fish Games. I used to have their toolbar on till Avira removed it and for some reason I can't get it back on again. Now I just have BFG as my home page, although I often forget and access BFG through Firefox as I use Firefox for everything else.

That's strange about Firefox shutting down Stephen, I've been lucky there. Was that with Firefox 3.0?

That brings me to another point, any of you Firefox 3.0 users know if the "Add to EverNote" button is available yet? I haven't upgraded because of that one thing, I use EverNote to clip stuff every day, so I'm not upgrading until I can merrily click on the "Add to EverNote" button as usual. When I went to upgrade when 3.0 was first available I read that the button wasn't yet available but have heard nothing since.

Apart from using Firefox about three years ago for a few months I've used I.E. for quite some time, but changed to Firefox when Microsoft advised we changed due to a security problem three or four months ago with I.E.. I was really impressed with many of the features and decided I wasn't going to revert back to I.E., but after having total lockout from the internet twice with firefox, where I'd get a message saying Firefox had to shut down due to problems (can't remember the exact message now) I was then unable to get back online for ages. I've just reinstalled Windows again and i'm going to remain with I.E.

It's familiar territory, I now it much better than firefox and I like the look of it.
