I'm not sure what version I originally posted, so though I'd post an update. I found an update patch for Fate by Numbers which takes the version to v1.10. Which fixes asaving issue with Windows Vista plus several other minor bugs. The download is just over 14Mb in size and can be downloaded from the following link:

Hi Sue,

No, but for example Alice get shot at a station (train, I think) & then she is able to download the security video & you watch it & decide to print 1 picture from each of the 3 videos. The 2nd & 3rd videos (timewise) I could find the detail to print rather easily however on the 1st video I had to go back to it 3 times before I could find the detail to print.

There was something similar to this (but not FMV) given away maybe a month or so ago & it was set in Europe somewhere & this girl was a detective & she had to talk to people to find out the whereabouts of a missing person (sorry, I don't remember the name of it). Anyway this is similar to that but I didn't like that one, it didn't catch my attention or interest while playing it so I deleted it.

This one however I am enjoying. You have to figure out which items to pick up to keep with you (bagde, tracking device, etc.), which locations to check out & who to talk to & when to use which item. So there are plenty of avenues to pursue in trying to find out the things you need to find out in order to be able to get access to the next location. The arrow turns red anytime you can interact with a thing or person and then your choices that come up in a box are an eye (to hear what she sees), gear cogs (to use whatever it is) or lips (to talk to a person). All the objects she has with her also come up in the box so for example you click on a person & the box comes up then you click on her badge, then she would go say something to the person & show them her badge. Sometimes during a conversation you are given an option of picking what to say or do (a guy hits on her & your choice is to leave or go with him, for the heck of it I picked go with him to see what happened).

Hope this helps you Sue. Have a great day.

Sadie

Hi Midori & RosnSC,
Yes it is a detective game. Like I said in my above post, I'm not usually into this type of game but then again never played a FMV before this. It is somewhat slow playing & can get tedious trying to find the correct thing if it's not obvious but there is a hint button. Even though I am enjoying this I will most likely delete it after I'm done playing it because it's not something my boys would be interested in & I always need the space. As long as you have the space Sue, go ahead & try it. You can always delete it if you find you don't like it.

Hope that helps you.

Hi Midori. Not worried about the download size - got about 50 gigs left on my hard drive...:D. It's the game, itself, I'm wondering about. Unless I've read/heard incorrectly, it is a type of detective game.? Who likes it and why?

Sue - who doesn't wanna waste her precious sewing/game-playin' time to download/install something that just ain't a-going to 'cut it'...;)

Hi, Sue... yeah, it's a big download. Don't just take my opinion, but I ended up deleting it. No offense Wrabbit! I tried a couple of times but just couldn't "get into" it, so thought: now why am I forcing myself when there's so many games I wanna play. Really interesting concept, but the characters and story just didn't grab me.
Now let's hear from some others that love it so Sue can make an informed decision! @:-)

Hey all,
I'm with you pavid. I'm down to only 4 gigs left on my puter cause of the awesome games, and am downloading one now that is just over a gig. I guess I'll have to start cleaning house soon or get a 2nd hardrive - lol. I just started playing FBN & am really enjoying it. I've found I'm not much for this type of point, click, wait, talk, etc., but I'm liking this one. I've never played a FMV game before so this is new to me. Thank you again wrabbit for a great find.

Aw, pavid, you're probably right. Probably couldn't get him to part with a Terabyte, but I'm sure that whabbit has scads of carrots to pass around before they hit the compost heap... >(:-B

Hi, mikerb... I had never seen anything like this, so am quite impressed also. But reading from one of the reviews, sounds like the artform had some prime time over a decade ago: (copy/paste)
"I suppose I have a love-hate attitude toward full motion video (FMV) adventure games, and I would suspect many other gamers do as well. When done right, such a game can be an instant classic, pulling the player into the action and truly making the story an 'interactive movie.' However, the medium also leaves significant room for problems to creep in that undermine the benefits. I played a handful of FMV games when the technology first took center stage in the mid-'90s, among them Phantasmagoria and Under A Killing Moon, but the novelty wore off fast and I took to chiefly playing traditional animated games."

Now I had no idea that technology was "center stage" back then (nor that a handful of games was)... I certainly was playing games and never saw hide nor hair of it. Perhaps Wrabbit and other experts here were more aware. But I am impressed with this one, and I've just started!

Well I wasn't sure about this but I had access to a fast connection tonight so I gave it a try.
Downloaded in 45 mins as an iso image which stumped me for a while until I found alcohol 120 which allowed me to mount it on a virtual drive and install it.
My system:-
Medion laptop with
Vista HP SP1
intelcore 2. 1.66GHz
2 Gb ram

Geoforce 8600M GS with 512 ram graphics card

Installed OK and on first impressions Fate By Numbers is really GREAT!! .
The high quality video graphics are brilliant and reminiscent of old film noir movies. The character acting is excellent and makes me wonder why big studios can't make stuff like this.
Multi thumbs up to WhiteRabbit for this and maybe catch you on the way to Macc one day

@pavid, I dont know if you have it or not, but I downloaded DAP (free version) some time ago and have really enjoyed it. I had the same problems that you are talking about and started looking into the free download accelerators. This one is really good and tbh I rarely get much hassle out of it. Occasionally, I get a notice that comes up in a small window at the lightenbolt icon (bottom left of screen) that offers a deal on buying the faster version, but just a click on the 'x' and that is over. Just thought I would mention it if you want to give it a try.

Congratulations on the high speed hookup Webby. Don't forget when downloading stuff that you are dependent on the speed at which the download site provides the information. As an example, I'm downloading Fate by Numbers right now. My connection is high speed and when hooked up to a fast site I would normally be able to download the game in about 30 minutes. Right now, the E.T.A. of the file is 3 hours 20 minutes. I'm not happy about that but there's not much I can do about it. :( I'm also not happy with the Whabbit. He keeps providing good games to download and thus is eating my hard disk space like carrots. So far I've given him 15 gigs though I have no idea what he intends to do with it. :)

I decided to post most of this weeks games in one go as I think I’m still in need of some quiet time away from the computer. It’s figured significantly for far too long. My children are on half term this week, so apart from interacting with them more I’ve also promised they could play some online games and have also set up some of my own games for them to play on the internet together. One of their favourites is Serious Sam 2, which is even more tongue in cheek than it's predecessors.. I was going to post several marble games this week, but someone else posted one of them last week, so I’ve decided to save the rest for another week.

The following game is a single click adventure game called Fate by Numbers, is on the lines of East Side Story, but instead uses actual video footage. I was quite impressed with it when I checked it out and though it would be great for the free games project. I realize some are not going to be able to download it due to its size and others because you need a reasonable computer to run it. If your computer is older than around five years it’s likely you won’t be able to run this, but if you’re not sure you can check the specifications below. There is a smaller 800Mb download that is lighter in content and there’s also a patch available that fixes some incompatibility issues with Vista. These are available from the developer’s home site where you can also find links to additional reviews of the game.

I ‘may’ add a few small games later in the week to compensate for the large size of this file. I’e posted quite a few hefty files this week.

Fate by Numbers: 1.2Gb

Fate by Numbers is a Full Motion Video adventure game filmed against a green screen and featuring 3D pre-rendered backdrops. The adventure games includes over an hour of HD-video with professional actors accompanied by a soundtrack written for the game. Private eye Alice Sanger is assigned to get a briefcase, but quickly finds herself immersed in a web of corruption and shadowy motives. It becomes personal when she finds out that one of mysterious people behind the briefcase is none other than her ex-husband whom was declared dead several years ago. What follows is a mysterious journey through the layers of a future metropolis with BladeRunner film noir influences.

Fate by Numbers was made as a graduation project for Communication and Multimedia Design (Avans) in Breda, the Netherlands. Revival is the name of the fictional company behind the game, set up by four students. The game was made on a shoestring budget.
The purpose of the game was to make a FMV-game to satisfy old school adventure gamers and introduce new players to the genre. But also to see if it is now possible to make a game using technology previously only available for big budget game companies.
