it's interesting....I was looking at stuff last night and came across links from a few free download sites(softpedia, freedownloadscenter I think were among them) but I just tried to search again, and I can't find those links anymore. I was going to post them, but maybe they came used the same links and if the server is down then they may have removed them. It was a game project for a class so they may have stopped taking care of the site after a while after the class was over, but they have contacts for all the people who worked on the project so you could probably email one of them and find out. There may be a monthly limit on bandwidth that they've already went over too.

Sorry, I didn't notice that the link was dead.
But you can download the game off the main Cornell website:

This looks like an interesting game; unfortunately both url's posted above lead to dead download links????

I've tried Googling the game but all I get is an old Atari version of a game with the same name.

Maybe the servers have been swamped already? Pity I went to bed early for a change last night lol.

regards

this does look interesting. I think I've run across this one at some point before, but I never downloaded it and forgot about it. I found one video on youtube, I couldn't find any more, but that and the screenshots on the site you mentioned above should give an idea of the gameplay.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBwXSBAGPCg

also, looking around I found another site that seems to be exactly the same as the one you posted, but with a different URL:

http://astrowar.mygamesonline.org/index.php?page=Home

Just seems weird to have the exact site twice. Anyway, thanks for the game.

AstroWar is a turn based strategy from Cornell University. It has a unique feature where the planets move around. So when sending ships to take over an enemy planet, you have to send them to where it will be in the future.

Quote:
Our player starts on one planet with moderate resources, some engineers, and a small army of marines. He may use the engineers to obtain resources and build infrastructure such as barracks and ship yards. These buildings can then be used to manufacture weapons, and to develop an army. A few other buildings such as missile turrets can be constructed to strengthen the defenses of the planet.

In order to attack other planets, the player must transport units to them via a transport ship, and then combat against that planet's ground units. Upon defeating other planets, the player will be able to colonize them, and use engineers to further develop them. Players may also attack other planets via inter-planetary missiles. However, in order to colonize the planet, engineers must be transported to the planet.

An interesting dynamic in the game is the dynamic nature of the playing field. The planets in the system orbit. Thus, players must use exploit the proximity changes to other planets in order to be successful.Inter-planetary missiles will have greater damage and accuracy at nearby planets. Steering a space craft to another planet will also be more challenging as players will have to account for their movements.
