Hi GeekGrrl,

I started a thread about General Knowledge Base becoming unregistered (http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4548) a few weeks ago. To make a long story short, the program was sold to a new owner, who confirmed that the key we received from GOTD had an expiration date. BuBBy (a forum Administrator), can give you more information about this if you PM him.

As a result of my contact with the new owner of General Knowledge Base (now known as GeneralKB) about this problem, they offered GOTD users a 70% off discount on the new version 2.5 (GOTD was v 2.4) through January 31, 2009. BuBBy posted about it here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4651

Below are the instructions for the GOTD users 70% off discount on GeneralKB 2.5:

To Order - visit http://generalkb.com/order/
Please use '69C20509' coupon code (without quotes).
This discount is valid through January 31, 2009.

I purchased a license for GeneralKB 2.5, as I've found it to be useful for research projects and cataloging a variety of things. The new company, Astersoft Co. Ltd, is very responsive, if you have questions or need help with the software.

Other than General Knowledge Base, I haven't had any other giveaways become unregistered. BTW, Liquid Story Binder XE is one of my favorite giveaways.

Geekgrrl, it's politically incorrect to talk about this transient yet incredibly frustrating glitch... but it has happened to others (incl. yours truly, with GenKnowledgebase and other apps).
Sadly, it seems to occur too infrequently to ping the radar of the boys behind the curtain, and worse, some posters have a kneejerk habit of implying you're to blame, without offering any solutions.
Personally, I suspect an overly aggressive reg cleaner (or a user who INADVERTENTLY okays the deletion of a cryptic "problem" entry); although in one case I know for certain another program's sloppy uninstaller removed something it shouldn't have. (a shared dll, perhaps)
Once it's gone, it's gone, per the Draconian rules of Narnia.
FWIW, I recall a flurry of complaints about General Knowledgebase, maybe here-
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/3280

BTW - thanks for the heads up on Liquid Story Binder's 50% off dealie.

I've had this happen twice now, different computers. Fortunately both were programs I didn't use that much. The latest is General Knowledge Base on Windows Vista. I opened it tonight and it comes up asking if I want to register this and the header now says UNREGISTERED. I know it was registered properly because I had used it multiple times, just not recently. (I haven't done anything that would cause it to become unregistered, such as trying to upgrade.) The first program I had a problem with was with Wondershare's Movie Story GAOTD (sic) Version on my Windows XP computer. I had never used that one, but when I opened it again a few weeks after installing, it said it was not registered.

Is anyone else had this problem?
