Indeed, cheers webmaster! I appreciate the extra work you have done here in the forums helping us out. Perhaps I will carry on with "Dos Mondays" to keep the hamster's legacy alive =p

I wasn't saying the server is old rabbit, I was saying that since they posted on their website as early as the 10th, we know they are still involved with the game and should be fixing their server issues soon. I hope the patches work out for you this time around rabbit, we wouldn't you trying to walk into any doors again.

Hi Wizzard, yeah, this is a nice game, especially if you’re into Wacky Golf games. We tend to play such games as a family and get some great laughs out of them as well. This will. I had it my ‘to post folder’, but not my recent one. It was in the original one that still has around 50 games to post. I’d buried it in one of my externals and since losing the use of my main computer before Christmas (I’ve still not bothered to fix it lol) I’d forgotten about them all. . I meant to pass on some of these to you for posting, but as you mention above, there's no need as most games can be found by following the links we provide.

I don't think it matters that the server is older as all it's serving to do (lol) is act as the 'server' For those that aren't familiar with online play, most online games are played via the developers own servers, but anyone can set up a server if they have the correct files.

With this server you can create a hub for others to play via your server, or better still for you and your fiends to play amongst yourselves. Once it’s set up anyone wanting to play an online game should be able to find your server online and connect. You mnay be able to block others and create passwords to restrict entry. It depends upon how sophisticated the server is. I've not had any time to check the actual server for this game yet, so am just going off my own experiences with other games that I've set up to play online, using my computers as servers. If your computer is slow and you only have limited bandwidth, it's not recommended that you even try to set up a server; instead, play via LAN with members of your family or friends who are visiting because if you are on one of those contracts that only allows you so much bandwidth a month you may find it rapidly shrinking if you run a server.

Sorry I've not been around all week apart from answering PM's, I needed to take a sabbatical, partly to catch up on family matters, partly to regain some strength, and partly because I’ve just changed my pain medication from oral morphine to a 7 day patch buprenorphine). My orals were getting less and less effective and I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms twice a day….not very pleasant (s I'm sure some of you know). Anyway, after two days, the first patch has just started to kick in and I think they have started me on too low a dose, so I’m taking supplements. Last time I tried patches (Fentanyl) I ended up on the next one to the strongest and found I was walking into doors etc. Then on day I thought it was time to change a patch (stupidly not marking the days that I'd last changed them, so promptly put a new one on, but forgot to take the old one off which actually still had a full day and a bit to run, so I ended up overdosing. So now I’m a little wary of them; however they do stop me from getting withdrawals every day. :)

=======================================================================

I've got an announcement to make and may as well make it here:

Unfortunately, The Webmaster has had to retire for the foreseeable future from posting DOS games due to unforeseen circumstances, so myself and Wizzard will be taking up the slack left by Webmaster.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for the time and effort you have put into finding some decent games and I hope the extra work you've had to take on is as enjoyable as finding and playing the games you've found for us.

==============================CHEERS!==================================

i am trying to open this in my F drive (external harddrive), but it keeps downloading into my C drive (which doesn't have enough room :) There used to be a box pop up that asked me where i wanted it downloaded to, but it does't pop up anymore--it just automatically goes into C. Anything i can do about that??

It appears that their online servers are down spodo. Since they just posted a few weeks ago, I would think if you give them awhile they will get the servers back up and running. Elsewise, you should be okay with what you have now: the mod patch and the main game. It's my understanding that the online patch was included with the mod patch.

I've installed the MOD download and it does add a few new things to the game including online play(*).

To give an idea of what it includes, these are the changes for just the last couple of updates as given by the readme file :-

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minigolf v1.0.8 (Aug 15th 2005)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 added random music to new holes
added random backgrounds
fixed first hole bug (Sourceforge #1155329)
added freeze powerup
Minigolf v1.0.7 (Mar 30th 2003)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 added No Aces option
added War Mode
added Golf Dude's Mystery 9
added loading screens for miniholes

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The full list of updates goes back to 2001. Despite the dates of these versions, it does actually add something to the basic game from the main download.

(*)However the online options don't do anything, and this must be where the MOD SERVER download is required. This requires editing a config file with info such as passwords, name, welcome message (all fairly straightforward)... and publicIP which is where my ignorance starts to come to the fore.

The readme file says:-

publicip - your ip address (ie: publicip=01.23.456.789)
*for users behind a router or firewall, make sure that is your EXTERNAL IP ADDRESS! NOT YOUR INTERNAL 192.168. one.

and I don't know where to get/set this setting.

Hopefully someone will elucidate as to how to do this. (please mr. wabbit).

On the author's download page there are also downloads for MOD and MOD SERVER. Anyone know if these are necessary, or do they just provide something additional? In particular, I'm wondering about the server download since that predates the other 2 by a couple of years and that surely implies that it's not specific to this game.

I'm currently downloading all, so if there's no quick response to this posting then I'll probably just experiment anyway.

That's funny! I have been playing this for a couple of weeks already. I found it while investigating links from a another 'Free Game for the Weekday' posting.

It is a fun mini-golf game that is a little different from the normal layout. There is chutes and ramps and jumps and other things to deal with to get to the hole. If you like mini-golf, this is a keeper!

Hi. mo, sourceforge was very slow today and sometimes it just will not answer. I had to try it 3 times before the download started. And turn off your download manager, if you have one. Just load with your browser. The file you get is called MGM.zip
After unzipping (takes some time too - thick file!) you get the installer exe file.
I had to change the path, because it wanted to install into my download-folder.
At last I had a nice, colourful, fully mouse controlled, fullscreen game on my Vista system. After some weeks - four or five only :) - I hopefully will put a ball in.
Much fun!

Because of the size, if you click open it may take awhile depending on what kind of internet connection you have. Saving will take up more space on your computer. I would try open and give it awhile, if you have dial-up I'd come back a few hours later lol.

Today's free game is called Mini-Golf Maniacs. MGM is exactly what it says, mini-golf. The player steps into the shoes of animals competing in the riveting world of mini-golf. The game offers 4 modes of play: putt around, coinz, tournament, and online play. Putt around is basically practice. The object of coinz is to collect the most amount of coins on the course, strokes don't count. Tournament is pretty self-explanatory along with online play. Multiplayer is also an option using the same computer.

The graphics and sound are absolutely great for a freeware game such as this. This probably isn't a game you will spend hours of time on, but it is a great time waster. I highly recommend this little putter.

The download comes in at 137mb so be prepared to wait just a little bit. The download link takes you to caiman where you can view several screenshots. The author's download page link at the bottom actually takes you to sourceforge. I would recommend running the config file after zip extraction before running program. Here you can set up your graphical quality and such.

Download with screens:
